Return to Kreswick by Arwith

[raw]
made by Arwith for LD 43 (JAM)

This is mine and Leandro Santos's submission for the Lundum Dare 43 Game Jame on ending on the 4th December 2018 @ 2am. We are both Final Year Computer Science (Games) Students at The University of Brighton.

The theme of the game is "Sacrifices must be made". You play as a wizard who is returning to his home village, only to find out that the village is under attack by a horde of monsters. You must make your way through the various passageways in order to make your way to the village, choosing either to fight and protect the villagers (Gaining the power of the Light - Reducing Enemy Rage, and thus Enemy Health), or avoid fighting and stock up on power to increase your damage. There are shrines and Minx cats located around the map which can prove addition stat modifiers if found.

CONTROLS: WASD - Move; E - Interact; Mouse1 - Shoot (hold); Alt+F4 - Exit Game

BUGS: Sadly many bugs have come into the came upon building. Whilst most things work in the Unity Editor, they do not in the build. Known bugs:

  • Enemies not spawning (NullReference)
  • Enemies fall over soon after colliding with player
  • Player can flip/shift camera view, thus creating a misalignment between player view and player model direction.
  • UI element for shrine pickup sometimes not hiding
  • Under certain stress, the player can fall off the map

I like the wizard and the overall feel!

I wish there would be more spells!

@morriss I'm glad you like it! We were thinking of adding a couple more, though sadly we didn't plan for it in our original plan so by the time we were thinking of finishing touches, we had other bugs to fix :( But we do plan on expanding this in the future and will definitely look into adding more

It certainly feels nice, looks and plays nice, but there's a couple of bugs that really bring it down. From the list above, I experienced #1, 3, 4 and 5. The large map is also interesting to run around.
Overall, I'd encourage you to decide on a smaller scope next time so you can make a more polished and rounded game. Congrats.

I like wizard games, I think it can be a good idea to continue this one. The voice acting was good, maybe the time needed for spell cast is not clear. I think for most of the problems, you already know that it need more time on to fix it and you probably have the hints to do that. Keep going like that guys! It was fun to play.

Thanks! Yes, some of the bugs showed up AFTER after building the game, so we could not fix them on time. The rest we noticed during regular testing but it was a choice of troubleshooting vs implementation. We also bounced the idea of having a frost spell but alas, time. @arwith should look into a voice acting career :v:
