Save Witch (Platformer + Puzzle) by pillowPillow

[raw]
made by pillowPillow for LD 41 (JAM)

Untitled-2.png catshow.gif A smart witch lost her body in an unintended explosion. Fortunately, she has loyal servants who can be possessed by her spirit. Help her control them and transport her spirit to crystal orb.

This game is a Platformer + Maze Puzzle game with split screen. Above is the platformer part for real world, you should lead the cat or bat to a crystal orb to rebuild witch's body. Below is the maze part for the brain of cat or bat. When you enter it, you can do some change to make cat or bat behave differently.

There should be a third servant Snake, but time is limited, so I have to give up him as well as some good ideas. I only did 2 levels because I underestimated all the work to cover this project, maybe it will be completed after.

Hope you all enjoy it!

The link you have to itch.io doesn't seem to be working.

Very interesting concept! The graphics is cute, and the idea of switching souls is pretty cool. The puzzle is a little hard to understand. Great work after all!

@MilkShake @Shelvid Thank you for playing it. The puzzle was intended to be like nerve impulse but I failed to make it more clear. So glad you are not tired of it.

This looks really cool, I wish I had a Windows machine to try it out on. I'll check back for a browser link in a bit.

Very nice game! Nice art.
The story telling at the beginning was really cute, I loved the detail with it (like the spirit's facial expressions)!
It made me smile :)

Of course, some music would have been nice, but as you mentioned, you were tight on time.

I would be super excited to play a full version of this!
Puzzles with these mechanics could be really creative and fun to play,
and these types of puzzles are totally up my alley!

Let me know if you're gonna make a post-event version, I would be very happy to play it :)

@NoahRo So glad you like it. This system is trying to realize how a brain maze works like an auto machine. It takes some time for me to think about how to attract players in a short time with it.

I've learnt much from this gamejam and will still working on it.

Thank you for your support, it helps a lot.

Fun game and interesting concept! It would be nice if we could see what each action was though before we actually use it.

Neat and cute game! When I saw the gif scrolling on the homepage I knew I had to play it later. It's a neat feeling to be controlling the cat and the bat like that. And the intro cutscene is charming. My main complaint is that the last level was pretty tedious for me. Once I knew the solution I accidentally jumped the cat off the edge to the right and had to restart, which was frustrating. Also it was frustrating to time the moving turret exactly with the shot; an indicator like a bar filling up to indicate the timing would help. It says "to be continued" - I think there's definitely potential for more content!

What a fantastic game! The visuals were stunning. How did you make the animations? What tools did you use other than GameMaker?

I loved the idea that you control the animals by solving puzzles on the "lower" screen. It has been implemented really good. Almost felt like a (3)DS game ヽ(´▽`)/

very creative gameplay, the art style fits the game just right. I think maybe some background music will make the mood of the game much better. I wish to play a complete version of this game on Steam

@patrickgh3 Thank you for your comments. Sorry to reply so late. I can't agree more, because I didn't have time to DESIGN, but only put all I've done in this level, like the pressure plate, the cage, the auto-moving gun, and there ought to be some more mechanism in the last period of bat's flying. And I'm working on improving the maze so that player will not waste time just waiting.🤗

@Bros. I'm not good at drawing really, just found some clips of cat and draw after them frame by frame, There're idle, sleep, walk and jump for cat. Walk is a 12-frame animation, the others are way more simple.

I prefer Aseprite when making animations.

Sweet game, really liked the art and the idea. Wasn't able to finish second level, got the bat to move and so on, but I guess I missed something. Good job! :)
