FLEET 52 by Beelzeboss

[raw]
made by Beelzeboss for LD 43 (JAM)

This is my 3rd LD. This time i made an rts-ish tactics game, it doesn't fit the theme all that well but it turned out not as horrible as expected.

Your objective is to escort the civilian ships while protecting them from enemy fire and shielding them with the big hulls of the battleships. My art is terrible as usual :D pic1.png

I actually really enjoyed the gameplay on this one. I wish there was more story, but with a bit more on the graphics side this game has a lot of potential.

Was a bit annoying that I had to issue orders individually, but not bad! Also the theme fit is not terrible TBH.

Could do with some slight changes it to how you control units, such as selecting a group and hotkeys. But still a nice entry.

Not bad. I was annoyed to issue orders to all units every turn. Two batteries does not make sense to me - they are the same at each ship. As ships don't move it would have more sense to use this mechanics to star base, which has limited mumber of guns. Also rotation of ships does not make sense right now. The graph is nice. Overall, can be something out of it. Good luck!

At first the game was incredibly difficult. Then I realized you could use both batteries at the same time. It was still hard. Then I realized you could also move while shooting. After this breaktrough I made it with 6 ships remaining.

I like the music. It has some space-y vibe to it and the art is not as bad as you think IMO

Great game. Keep it up!

Art and music are good and sets you in the universe of the game quite nicely.
Game type is cool and fits the game style too, adding on the retro vibe.
Gameplay is a bit on the classic side but is ok (:
Good entry

This game has a lot of potential with a better tutorial and better controls. Besides, the "end turn" button is really not in the right place and made me fuck up quite a number of times. Other than that, the game design and the mechanics are interesting and I had tons of fun playing it! Congrats :)

Cool game! It took a long time to get a hang of it, and I wish that there was a multi-select feature so that I could move my civilian ships all together.

The fact that my ships didn't move the amount that I told them to each turn really messed me up. :( I would plug in a long movement, and the ship would get stuck halfway along its path, and then die.

I'd also like to echo the other players who say that it was really hard, and hard to learn - I ended up dying on the first level, within a few turns, and had no idea what I was doing wrong. After reading the comments, I realized that you could use batteries and shoot (Somehow I missed this, even after reading the How To Play menu) and gave it another try.

On my second playthrough, I basically sat in the spawn to start, and knocked off the enemies as they came to me, up until waves started appearing behind me that I could not aim towards, which felt very unfair. I understand that you probably didn't want players sitting and killing off all the enemies before moving forward, but there should be a better way to disincentive that than spawning enemies which you can't aim at.

Despite my grips, it's honestly a really neat game! I think that this could be polished up into something really cool, after the jam is done!

Cool mechanic! Turns out quickly intense with the overwhelming enemies aha

Very nice mechanics. The game could use a bit more depth (more levels, enemies, civilians etc.). I think this could be turned into a very polished small game outside of LD. I accidently massacred 2 of the civilian ships by underestimating the spread of the weapons but apart from that the theme was not present. Didn't mattter to me though, I had fun.
