Save the Yel's! by LeReveur

For once, I had an idea in time. Nothing original at all (a very bad clone of the must-have Lemmings), but I wished that, for once, I could make a better game than my previous entries for many (too many) previous LD's. But my old ennemies still are there. Collisions not working, strange and unexpected behaviors, silly bugs… Well, the time I saved while finding an idea way sooner than usual, was lost way speeder than usual. And I ended hurrying until the very last minute, as usual. But, hey, this is LD, it's fun. But, sometimes, I wonder if I will have all the fun, at least… Once? Next time, I hope.

So, the game. Some Yel's will go out from the trap(s) - in blue - and want to find the exit - in white. You have some limited tasks/abilities that you can give to them, in order to prevent them from an awfull dead. The stopper stay in the way, forcing the other Yel's to go back. The shoveler dig the next obstacle in front of him. The driller dig right below him until he falls. The miner too, but he dig in diagonal. The jumper and the climber have the abilities, respectively, of falling from heights without crashing like an egg, and climbing (I'm afraid that this one is pretty buggy, and horribly slow) - those two are permanent, and can be combined. The builder will make stairs, until he runs out of steps (8), or he's blocked. The kamikaze will act as a stopper, until the 5 seconds are down, then he die in a little explosion. Stoppers can be removed by making them blow, or if someone dig under them. You can slow down or speed up the Yel's out frequency by using the buttons up-left. If you are stuck, you can blow up everyone by clicking the button up-right (only if all the Yel's are out). You need to save at least a certain number of Yel's every level, but I forgot to show how much (however, when it's good, the "saved" count is green). There is only four levels, and it's yet a miracle, giving the late moment I started the level design. (try to) Enjoy, and thank you for testing my ~~buggy~~ game.

Note : after publication and due to comments, I added some buttons on the main page to access the levels already done (it was meant, but I forgot in the final hurry -_-; )

Nice game! I like this style of game and doing one for LD is an interesting idea! It is ofc difficult to make a game really polished in this short time but you managed to get the basic mechanics of the game! Some sounds are missing to make it more compelling, an exploding Yel would be fun also. :-) And screaming Yels for that. The controls are a bit iffy making it somewhat problematic sometimes. Also, when failing it is not fun to start over at level 1. :-( Good work!

In the hurry, I forgot to add some buttons to access the levels you already have done -_-;
I just added them, it should be a lot less boring to retry when you failed.
Thank you having notice that. And for trying my game! :)
*(and remember : if you click on the + button to the max, you won't have to stand a long time before all the Yel's are out and you can use the" blow all" button)*

That was fun! I enjoyed the puzzle aspect. I got stumped on the first level for a while until I figured out that I had to click on a Yel in order to apply the action to them - whoops!

i like the idea, but i prefer turn based approach, because in real time it is hard to control all elements and create strategy for them. and another thing about gameplay, player can easily do something wrong and ruin that stage, but there isn't any retry button. if there is it has to be more visible. beside of those, i like the gameplay :)

Was stuck in level 3, but probably due to my ignorance.

I though on doing something like lemmings (the premise shows up immediately when i saw the theme), but well, not my thing, good that you done it and it was well done. The mechanics work nice and the graphics are ok. My only complain is the lack of sounds. It could really set the right mood in the game.

I can only imagine the pain of coding all this collisions and physics. Nice job.

Lemmings was the first thing that went through my head when I read the theme =)
While it's nothing radically new it's a solid game and I love that you replaced them with rubber ducks that die so pitifull. Sound would have rounded everything out, but even without a solid entry.

Mechanically everything seems to work as it should. I wish it would have some new take on the concept, though. (We also had a lemmings concept during our brainstorm. To make it more sacrificial, we were going to make our lemmings family groups, and each character death would actually cause grief and anguish with their next of kin. Might've been a little dark.)

The art is pretty good, but like others before me, I wish there was sound.

Also: twice I was prompted with a [MAIN] button rather than a button for the next level, and I am not sure why. I even saved all but one of my Yel's the second time it happened, so I don't think I was disqualified from progressing.

All in all, pretty good and complete execution of the concept!

Nice attempt at a lemmings game, but definitely under-cooked and doesn't fit the theme...

I wish there was a better way to pick what trap you are using rather than trying to click and figure it out then try to click on the right duck. Maybe make the traps associated with different numbers on the keyboard. Also, it would be nice to know how many ducks I needed to save to pass the level. I had fun playing it though

I like the game! I think you could have scoped back on some of the features and just experimented making more levels with the certain subset of mechanics. For example, with three types, then you have the potential to make 3 levels involving 2 types and 1 level involving one type, and potentially more if there are different ways to use each type. Overall though, I like how you do have to sacrifice lemmings (at least in first level) and have them be the mechanic that lets the other lemmings though- could be cool to see that explored further. Keep up the good work!

I felt overwhelmed by the amount of control options,
but overall there's a lot of features packed into this one!
I appreciate the terrain and physics

This looks cool. Our game is also a clone of Lemmings with a twist. Feel free to check ours out. I'll give yours a play now.

Just had a play. This is as you say very similar to Lemmings, but there is a huge amount of work that goes into this, as I know, and to get this done in 3 days is quite an achievement. Well done.

I'd add some music and sfx, also i'd probably add a restart button.

Interesting gameplay which reminds me Lemmings. No sounds? Maybe it could be better to increase speed or ading a button to accelerate time. Overall a good entry ++

Very nicely done! Getting all that collision and job logic done in a few days is quite impressive!
I beat the first 3 levels (lvl 3 was quite the step up), but the game got stuck on lvl 4 (no yels start coming out)

Some (basic) sounds would have added quite a bit.
Even though this is a lemming homage, its well done! Controls were good enough, and the puzzles interesting. A few minor bugs (climbers climbing through walls), but none too bad.
