Morpheus Triad by 11Schotter

[raw]
made by 11Schotter for LD35 (JAM)
Grab your headphones to get sucked into Morpheus' world ...

In Morpheus Triad you control Morpheus, one of the many gods of music on their way to ascension. Shift between the three music styles Metal, Techno and Classic wisely to navigate along the treacherous heavenly platforms.
Avoid or kill enemies by attacking them with the right music style,
but be careful - a switch between styles cost almost your entire life power!

[ Gameplay ]

Run along the level and use the music styles to avoid falling down.

1 = blue = Metal = metal surface
2 = red = Classic = wood surface
3 = green = Techno = PCB surface

Fight or avoid aggro of enemies by choosing the music style.
Even afraid enemies will hurt you, don´t use them as a ball.
Maybe just a little.

Metal-hedgehog = fight with classic = is afraid of classic
Classic-tortoise = fight with techno = is afraid of techno
Techno-gecko = fight with metal = is afraid of metal

Remove obstacles with - guess what - music style.

Looks like a really cool game but I had lots of errors. First i tried in fullscreen and for some reason only saw the top right corner of the screen. Next I tried windowed mode and it worked. After this i was confused a bit and died quick. When I tried replaying, I immediately got screen saying I won with a score of 300 or something like that with the audio from the level still playing. I really couldn't play it much but I really did like the audio!

It sounded great for the first bit, but after starting and stopping the game several times due to the game-over panel glitching above the game window, I quit trying to play the game. Neat idea, I just think you should improve UI layering code and also and a quick "Retry" button after death that allows players to start again and play. (Skip Audio-Intro) Neat Idea though!!!

Fantastic game visually and the music is great but the game is quite buggy.

I really liked the audio and the character art! I feel that the game aspects could use some more refinement. I kept feeling, with the music being the way it is, that I should be moving quickly. The realization that I shouldn't based on the level came very abruptly.

Interesting idea, but I feel like it would have benefited from a more streamlined level design. It was really confusing and I found that I kind of just ran around randomly.

A bit buggy. The audio and graphics are the strongest parts. The game mechanics are not very intuitive but after a few tries you start to piece it together.

It would be nice if the web link was actually playable in a browser. The game made good use of the theme and the audio was nice.

Really liked the art. Movement was pretty awkward. Top down view combined with forward motion following the cursor feels really unnatural.

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? It's like itch or gjolt.
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description

Wow !

I'm really impressed with the music and graphics. I have nothing to say, your art is top quality.

I knew I shouldn't have clicked that button. I knew I shouldn't have clicked it a hundred times...

Two things, once corrected could make the game a lot better :
Make "checkpoints", or do something to show your going the right way. I was often feeling lost, not knowing if I was really going the right way (I was, but I didn't knew).
The "falling". Once you fall, you can still walk, and so you don't really know if you're alive or not. If you can go on a platform quickly enough your saved, but if your not, you "walk" below... It's really strange... I would have liked a clearer death, and not this awkward drop thing.

I also noticed that you could shoot things to kill the innocent music animals. I think it could have been interesting to use that mechanics more, because you can completely do the game without it, and you're never told you can use it.

You could have made more complex levels. Your game works very well, it would have been cool to stretch the limits of the game by having more than just walking almost-straight and switching colour, because your game can obviously do so much more.

Big congratulations to the team !

The wasd controls relative to direction are a bit odd, but the gameplay is really interesting. Also the sound and visuals are gorgeous, especially the transformations (the most important part!)

Wow, very fancy graphics and audio. I think the controls were a bit awkward and the game too easy to really get a good feel for it though--I ended up just sprinting to the end, occasionally switching music types. I didn't seem to have any reason to fight anything, and in most of the forms I moved too quickly to really know if I should plan ahead for anything. I like the idea, and I think it's a great use of the theme, but I wish the core gameplay had more to it.

Found it confusing to play, and switching styles seemed to have little effect... on the other hand, good art and music!

The audio supports the gameplay greatly!
