The Infernal Knowledge by Koficola

[raw]
made by Koficola for LD 40 (COMPO)

My first game jam game! I sure hope you have more fun playing it then I did making it! ;) WebGL build is a slightly updated version of the compo thing.

A weird 2.75D first person fight game wherein you must fight eldritch demons in a variety of desolate hellscapes. Claw your life from the hands of these beasts, all the while learning their darkest secrets and gaining their incomprehensible strength - but beware the effects on your fickle human mental state!

Its mostly really stupid though, so don't even worry about all that. It may even give you a chuckle or two I hope! Also any bugs are because your character is going mad and its actually really good lore and fits the theme because the stuff you've learned mangles your head up. Honest.

I think the game turned out pretty good considering my talents, but is still missing a hefty amount of features that could make it my magnum opus/a mediocre game, such as some insanity-based game modifiers or any sort of loss state (for now you can only feel a bit of shame when the eye in the corner disappears). I shall continue working on it and hopefully make it good at some point.

Actually gave me a chuckle, the artwork is amazing. Seems like there is not much to do, than just to find the door or throw stuff at poor cthulhus, but the atmosphere makes up for it now. Can see this be build into something bigger. Really good job!

Great job with the graphics! I would have loved to see some music with this!

I really liked your writing quotes in between levels. They were so silly!

I really like the 2D-in-3D style. Also, as a huge lovecraft fan and a pedantic type person, these would technically be "star spawn", not "cthulhus" :)

Man, Cthulu is more of a wimp than I would have imagined...
Really cute game, and the back-breaking sound effect is really satisfying.

Clever! The art is really nicely drawn - the 2.5D thing threw me for a loop at first, but I like it; feels like fighting with cardboard cutouts. The book of Cthulhu Knowledge made me grin. Nice work.

That was weirdly fun.

I really like your visual style and the fact that you combined hand-drawn 2D graphics with an ego-3d engine. You can never have too many Cthulhus ;)

Unfortunately there wasn't much of a challenge, as I didn't think the Cthulhus were able to hurt me.
I also got stuck in the level with the columns because the door wouldn't appear. There was one defeated enemy leaning on a column, maybe that did not trigger the door.

I loved the art style, and the quotes in between. The sound effects were great, but could have used some music in there. Overall, great entry!

Very funny cthulhu facts! Combat was fun, sound effects were satisfying and the 2.75D style is really unique. However, I experienced an issue with the door spawning off the platform, requiring me to make a leap of faith. Also, it got a bit repetitive after a while and it was a bit easy since the cthulhus couldn't damage you. Nonetheless, a very enjoyable game. Good work!

I like the silliness of this. I think it would be fun if you really spam punches and kicks to really mess them up.

Hi, amusing graphics and concept - nice work! I'm not really sure what to do though. What was the eye for? Does the game have any progress or lose condition? Anyway, nicely done, thanks for submitting! :D

Good and fun game, but two problems.
if I have 110 beaten Cthulhu, the number in the book will be only 10 (do you show only last two numbers?)
And some of Cthulhu are stuck in the others (when they lie on the ground)

Haha I loved it! Keep the tong-in-cheek way, you are a boss at it!

This was hilarious, I'd love to see this concept expanded upon, and I really like the art style

I'm not sure, if that was a glitch or not, but I noticed that some Cthulhus were actually running away from me rather than towards me. And since they were the last ones I noticed this brought the feeling of them being scared by the beating I just handed to other enemies.

Also it felt really satisfying to kick the Cthulhu off the platform...

But the game overall felt too easy...
