Brickris Tetout by fluffy

Try to clear rows like regular ol' Tetris. But a ball flies around the board, wreaking havok on your plans by placing or removing blocks!
Like Breakout, when the ball destroys a block you gain some points! Carefully balance your strategy of clearing rows and bouncing the ball off the falling Tetris piece. Blocks destroyed by the ball while you also clear rows will build a score multiplier!

Pretty fun! I don't fully understand what I should be doing with the breakout portion though, I don't have enough control over the ball so to me it's just a random element of the game. If you fix the breakout portion to be easier to control this would be much better!
Nice!
Good parts:
I liked the use of the theme and how you made both games work together. There was this really cool retro vibe to the whole experience that made the game feel more arcade-like. The music was so smooth & perfect for the game too, a beautiful throwback to the original soundtrack.
Ok parts:
I liked the "old arcade machine" graphical vibe and there were some snazzy special effects. In the heat of a difficult game, however, these effects were mildly distracting since they were right behind where the player's focusing. I liked the scoring too - would be so nice if there were leaderboards or something!
Ideas for next time:
The mechanics are a bit crazy and could have been perhaps explained a bit more. What made it double as tricky was the control scheme, which wasn't at all what I was used to, and also the breakout ball didn't always move in the way I'd expect it to (sometimes changing speed weirdly etc) to make the game super-unpredictable. With all the stuff that was going on at once I got overwhelmed pretty fast.
The ball movement is a bit too glitchy and buggy. it got stuck twice and couldn't move at all but it is works.
=)
Overall really good game you made here. Its interesting how trapping the ball is sudo helpful until the bricks start coming fast then you're just playing with too small a tetris board. ;)
Would be nice if there was some mechanic that dropped the blocks down when there become random spaces taken out by the ball - like some sort of weight simulation almost.
there's just the bug on the over speeding velocity on the ball which appear sometimes when the ball is stucked between 2 blocs.
I also love the visual effects, I'm a huge fan of bloom but I also like the colourisation and wavy effect of the grid in places where blocks used to be.
Brilliant work!
Thanks for stopping by the stream @bamboy
I liked the concept, but wish there was a whole screen dedicated to explaining what the ball does. It mostly served as an annoyance and it was hard to identify when it would remove blocks vs add blocks.
Good Game
Be the ball.
The gameplay took a bit of getting used to. After I paused the game and read the rules, I understood what was going on better, but it was very hard to feel like I was really in control of the game. The ball did what it wanted to, and mostly messed up my strategy, but it did so in ways that kept me a live for a long time. I cleared maybe one or two lines through tetris line completion the entire game, but the ball destroyed blocks for me a lot. For a while I tried to isolate the ball by turning its trail blue, and then dropping blocks around it to confine it to a corner, and this worked pretty well for a few seconds, but it always seemed to find a way out somehow.
The music was fantastic. I am very impressed by your game.
My own game, [InvadTris](https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/invadtris/ld41-post-mortem-invadtris/) mashes up Tetris with Space Invaders, so please have a look at it and let me know what you think.
