MOTHS

To preface this description: moths aren't bad insects. They're actually kind of pretty, and not disgusting. They're generally preferable to most other types of insects.

This ceases to be the case when there are thirty of them in your closet.

Very loosely inspired by first-hand experiences, Moths is a game about the human condition. It's a game about our most basic needs. It's a game about food and physical safety. It's a game about cereal.

There are two kinds of moths in this game: the kind that eat your food, and the kind that eat your face. They have a few things in common: they fly, they destroy...

...and you can shoot them with your laser gun.

The moths that eat your food are really terrible, by the way. They just won't let you eat so much as a smidgen of your own cereal if they're already around it! That just won't stand, now, will it?

Oh, and the other kind. They can't seem to keep quiet when they're flying. They always make some sort of white noise when they're in the air. Just thought you might want to know that.

Changes

In the original build, the cursor was missing on the end screen, making it impossible to exit the game or return to the menu. The build provided has this issue fixed. No other changes were made as of this build.

Post-Jam Version

There's a post-jam version of the game. In this version, the game over screen tells you how long you survived, moths will not begin chasing you unless they have a line of sight to you, and there are several other changes that were made to better balance the difficulty. Do not confuse this with the jam version. The post-jam version is currently unavailable for Mac and Linux because of issues we encountered with Unity cloud build.

I love the idea behind the game. However, there seemed to be a few bugs (lol, not the moths).

After a little bit, the moths stop flying. When the room restarts, virtually none are moving anymore. The large boss moth disappeared almost right away. I think it went behind a wall.

Also, during gameplay, it would be nice to have the ability to invoke a menu so you could quit when you wanted.

I was also able to eat cereal that was surrounded by moths. This may have happened after the first round where the moths were all stuck to walls unmoving.

The game is hilarious though, so kudos there.

Nice entry, and pretty funny, but not really innovative, aside from the fact that these are moths rather than aliens or something, and the graphics aren't great. Also, the effect of the theme isn't apparent. How does this game fit with the theme? Good idea though.

The game is fun, but I thought really difficult, you can't survive and take all the boxes and I don't know if you wanted but I had some jumpscares haha

Wow this is difficult. I'm glad nobody needs cereal that badly to survive in real life! Good humor angle, good concept, and innovative the idea that health packs can only be consumed after clearing the enemies around it. Actually just the idea of a "time attack" fps is nice and fresh and could be great for a casual game. Solid foundation here!

Simple, goofy fun. Found the moths kind of hard to hit, though.

Two toilets but no shower? In these consiton I'd expect moth invasion! I also loved your maze on the cereal box!

Your game could last longer with more cereal packets and an high-score at the end. But that is already a good experience.

haha a nice idea, great sound and music. Unfortunately it has some technical issues like lagging input and often bullet collisions aren’t working. But fun title overall :)

I played the post-jam version. This had some funny details and goofy music/sounds that fit the mood. I found it hard to hit the moths that were flying around the cereal, and ran out of time a lot because of that. Cereals in the hallway were usually already spoiled, so it seemed better just to camp around the first rooms. It was funny that one of the moths spawned from the toilet!
