Doc. BLOODAWAY by randdir

[raw]
made by randdir for LD 44 (JAM)

Welcome new subject on this test directed by the famous Doc. BLOODAWAY. Everyone in the country know the legend, but no one survive his test. Perhaps it's not that simple. You actually have to choose between 3 type of moods.

Persuade: convince him not to take your blood.

Stay passive: say nothing and hope for the best.

Be agressive: try everything to stay alive.

Like a rock paper cisor game each mood can beat an other one: Persuade > Stay passive > Be agressive > Persuade.

Each time you select a mood, it 'll be compare to an other patient. If you loose, some of your blood 'll be taken and that 'll increase each turn until some one hasn't enough to survive. So try to survive for the next test.

This game has been made in 48h it's my 2nd LD. Hope everyone that gonna like to defeate the doctor will enjoy this compo. By the way it's made in löve 2D for windows.

Thanks in advance for feedback. Enjoy and have fun.

I like the art style a lot! That's being said, I don't think this belongs in Compo. In Credits it says:

> Music by Alex MuCulloch - opengameart.org

I believe you're supposed to make your own music in 48h for Compo. You can't use someone else's work.

Game has simple concept, not really engaging, but not bad. I like art style, I think it's the best aspect of the game. Keep it up!

Excellent mood. I find rock paper scissors style games to not make much sense against a computer since there isn't much of the mental games that usually happen with a human opponent, but it still has a fun, slot machine style quality to it. The graphics are excellent and very clean.

I have to agree with toasteater that you should opt out of the compo if you didn't make the music. Either that, or remove it from the game, as you see fit.

Love the art ! Not much feedback in the game, without that, we don't know if we are outsmarting the computer of if it's just random luck.

First of all thanks for the feedback you're cool ! @toasteater @borys @fullmontis @5you

@toasteater Yes i thought about it only after I send it at 3:15 am but was to asleep to removed it.
Maybe you could not rate the music and still figure it out as a compo ? Or could i change it for a jam I don't know (if it's possible or how to).

@fullmontis @5you actually it's not that random luck has it's seems there is a lil AI (not that madness to). But it was supposed to have more patient to increase liftime experience. But lack of time has often in LD :)

Thanks again guys for graphics and your comment.

Just changed for a Jam unless not rating the music :)

The graphics is definitely the greatest part about it. The monochromatic colour palette combined with the simple, jazzy background music gives off a pretty somber mood, and that's great for what the story has. Like everyone else has been saying, I don't think randomness is really engaging for a game like this, but the art style definitely makes up for it!

Art is very good and ambience with the music is nice ! Idea is simple and he works well, maybe little short (only one scene). Good job ! (i have problem when i launch the windows of the game was bigger of my screen, i apply a parameter on windows settings to solve then, i put a capture)![pb.png](///raw/bc3/41/z/21f52.png)

Nice implementation of Rock Paper Scissors, I really enjoyed the graphics. The audio was a bit hard to hear and I don't think I could hear any sounds.

This is a super cool concept and the graphics look super nice! Unfortunately it didn't scale properly to my screen and the persuade option was offscreen but apart from that it was pretty fun!

This game definitely got the mood right! I also really liked the graphics and the limited color pallette. Maybe it was a little too short, but for a simple rock-paper-scissors game, it was pretty interesting to find how the opponent reacts to your choices, and learn it's patterns. I'd say you did a good job!

I thought the game was going to be a "mastermind" take on the rock/paper/scissor concept, were you'll have to understand the ia pattern of the other patient, but it seems random ? Or maybe I missed somtething :)
The mood is cool though.

this is a cool take on a rock-paper-scissors game! i think the randomness of it made it hard to stay engaged for very long but it's still an interesting use of the theme, and i like the art style a lot - it's really nice and clean, suits the tone! :)

The game is way too big for my screen, I can't seem to play it... Unlike @robowarrior1982, I can't seem to tell my computer not to apply any scale. That's so sad, I wanted to rate it :(

The graphics are good, but I would have prefered a more complex gameplay than a simple Rock/Paper/cisor. Nice job anyway!

First of all thanks to @jandourek @marcenat @voidfishing @solah for your review.
This entry supposed to have more patient than one and need more stuff to improve lifetime. But it's a start for something bigger i guess.

Sorry to @ryunos my resolution is for now in 1920x1080 if it's help. I may gonna improve it in a further upgrade. Keep you in touch pal ;)

That is a pretty cool idea! I like games that try to use rock paper scissors mechanics.

I think you could try to add a bit more of interactivity: maybe the doctor say something based on what you and the other patient choose? Or maybe there is a way to cooperate with the other patient?

I had to run the game under wine, and for some reason, full screen would not resize the game window to the size of my computer screen. Maybe look up that? Also I believe that Love2D can automatically create binaries for Mac and Linux!

Thanks for the game!

thanks for your review @rafa-braga @caranha

Yeah I'm working on Mac version and find out how I can add resizeable in this prototype. Btw love your idea for more interactivity @caranha :)

Awesome graphics and art direction, ou should try to enhance the tension by adding a music with an increasing tension every turn, and some sfx of the victims trying to strugle against the test and the blood being transfered.
Maybe some hospital ambience to increase the creepyness !!!
