scarf wasn't animated, much disappoint! In all seriousness it was nice, no complaints.

Well, that was a unique experience! (In other words, I liked it!)

I like the dialogue - you should write a comic or something, it was very entertaining. The audio design was nice too and the sound effects were very enjoyable. Platformer mechanics aren't very innovative or new, I didn't like the fact that the shooting seemed overpowered and infinite.

Nice little game with good graphics. It's fun to play, but get too repetitive too fast.. but the story is quite mysterious, so I wanted to see the end ! Nice job !

Nice work, made me chuckle on multiple occasions. It would be nice to see how much health you have left but other than that, no complaints here.

Simple platformer with a cool narrative!

The writing here is very good, if a bit preachy by the end. You've managed to make a self-deprecating and self-aware game that doesn't feel like it's doing that purely to justify its shortcomings. I had a good couple laughs, and you managed a very solid gradient of tone in your writing, from the cheesy through the sarcastic to the self-aware to the pretentiously deep.

The gameplay is also decent. It's pretty bog-standard run and jump and shoot platformer faire; I think the character runs a little too fast so you can bump into enemies a bit too easily without noticing them coming in from screen right. And I found a slight bug where an enemy could get stuck not moving on the edge of the screen but still killable. But the shooting's pretty fun and the controls are tight, so I was able to have an mechanically enjoyable experience.

What stuck out to me was a slight dissonance between the run/jump/shoot and the writing. You were writing for an exploratory contemplative game, but coding for one filled with action. The writing seemed to want you to give me long stretches of art with occasional action setpieces. But what you gave me is a pretty consistent level of difficulty and stable gameplay. It's a bit hard to verbalize and it didn't impact my enjoyment of either part of the game, but playing through Information Overload felt like playing two different games. On the one hand, it's Eversion. On the other hand, it's a deus-ex-machina walking sim.

Either way, I really enjoyed my time here. Thanks for the game.

@amras0000 Wow, thanks for the in-depth feedback, really appreciate it! Certainly agree with you on the gameplay - narrative dissonance, figuring out mechanics that work with the story rather than parallel to it is something I'll be looking to improve on in the future.

@gwolf86 I actually had a UI element programmed in, but it started bugging out and going on the wrong screen region in like the last 30 minutes of the compo, so i decided to just scrap it rather than risk not being able to wrap up the game in time.

Neat interpretation of the theme! Some lines really made me smile
btw why didn't you implement an auto-shooting? The game would be much nicer!

Getting smarter gets you more sarcastic. Boy I love the sound. Why the hell isn't it an option?

@georgebgreen, I had similar issues where I had to strip back some of the features in my entry. Really great work overall though, I love a game with a bit of humor.

Very funny game! I enjoyed the self-irony of the story especially. Shooting enemies was sometimes quite difficult since you could only shoot horizontal directions and the enemies were positioned inconveniently. But maybe that was made on purpose to emphasize the story. Keep on doing great games!

I felt the main character was too fast and the button "exit" on the main menu is kinda useless. But... Whoa! Talk about a serious topic, huh!? Great use of the theme! :D

Amazing job!

Nice little game. I would put a health bar and lower the speed. Solid though!

Under a big impression from this game. It was cool, innovative, the theme fit into the story (or vv). Simple, yet intriguing. All I can say is.. keep making games. Good work. Had fun. Too bad it's so short.

Followed you on twitter, perhaps we even team up in April, who knows ;)
Cheer!

One of the most fun LD game I've played. Very challenging, and the sounds were so funny it made me laugh almost every time.

Game itself is very basic, but honestly I didn't like the comments above. In my opinion it's not very funny to read about the developer as an asshole ^^° I also think that the theme didn't match very well, mostly because I didn't catch it until you explained it in the end.
I liked the gameplay itself, the graphics and the sounds, but I think I didn't get its humor after all :-/

Great art and sound! I think it is hard to do a humor/serious game so I applaud the effort. However I was almost ready to quit at some point because I wasn't to attracted to the story the only thing that kept me going was the HP Lovecraft reference and the difficult part at the end.

Maybe tying the narrative a bit more to the challenges in the game would help make it the story click with more players.

Congrats on finishing this on 48hs only!

This is by far the most moody game I've played yet/ I love how much content you've managed to cramp into a compo entry. The biggest down-side I found was that the controls were extremely direct. Jumping was not easy.

Very well done narrative! I included it in my Ludum Dare 40 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2qheLSmToOo
