Don't Panic by doomshmuck

You have found yourself a ship supporting the majestically powerful Improbability Drive. It's results can be, well, almost anything! Unfortunately, this is a prototype model and doesn't know how to reverse any negative effects. The authorities are not too pleased with you stealing their prototype however, and are hot on your tail. They don't really care about the prototype, just that it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. I guess somehow they managed to get AHEAD of you, and every time you jump, they still show up? Eh, who knows.
Game was completed on Sunday even though it is a Jam game. All assets were done from scratch except the images used on the controls menu.
How To Play: * To move around, use the w, a, s, and d keys, or the arrow keys, or the left joystick if using a controller (not recommended) * To shoot, use the space bar, left mouse, or "X" button (button 0 on your controller). * Shoot enemies to get points. Each wave has a set number of enemies in it (top-right on the UI). Kill the number of enemies to go on to the next wave. You start with 10 shields and 1 hull point (top-left on the UI). If you lose all your shields and get hit one more time, it's game over! * There are volume controls in the Options menu on the main screen, and you can view the controls under the "Controls" option in the main menu. * After each wave, you will be presented with a choice of either a randomly chosen effect or allowing your pursuers to get closer. Each sacrifices a bit of your safety as the game gets harder after each round. So yeah, that's what I'm going with for the theme... but you MUST sacrifice something, so it fits
If you don't understand the references, then I recommend you read / watch Douglas Adams' "Hitchiker's Guide to the Galaxy".
IF YOU WANT TO FIND ALL THE REFERENCES YOURSELF, DO NOT READ FURTHER (AFTER THE GIF):

- Each enemy is worth 42 points (before the multiplier)
- The whale and petunias is a reference to one of the improbabilities of the improbability drive in the book / movie... Where the bowl of petunias thinks "Oh no, not again."
- The ready go thing was kind of an homage to Super Smash Bros, I guess in honor of Ultimate coming out next week.
- The randomly chosen negative effect was sort of based on "The Suffering Game" arc from "The Adventure Zone" (great D&D podcast if you are interested).
- The cows, umm, we just wanted cows. I guess I was kinda thinking of the secret cow level from diablo 2?

Didn't think much of it at first, but it made me chuckle a couple of times, well done
The firing button was kinda pointless, you wouldn't ever want to stop firing, right?
Also, being a sperm whale is awesome -- are you sure it's a sacrifice?
I like the Idea to of "downgrading" your ship.
In all seriousness though I like the game, but the fast scrolling background was pretty uncomfortable on the eyes. It also made the enemies and their bullets difficult to see.
Edit: Also, slightly disappointed I couldn't fling cans of deodorant at the enemy instead of cows :)
