Castle Mania by Roitchie

[raw]
made by Roitchie for LD 44 (JAM)

Our first Ludum Dare entry.

Description:

A dungeon crawler where you are a vampire. Damaging enemies increases your life force, which you can spend on buying upgrades.

Unfortunately we had other commitments, such as coursework and revision, that needed to be done during the Jam period and so we didn't spend nearly as much time as we would've liked on this game. However we hope this proves to be an interesting proof of concept at the very least.

Aim:

Defeat all the enemies in a level to progress to the next. Complete all the levels without dying.

Controls:

WASD - Movement

Space - Use Spell

Esc - Pause game

Bug Fix Log:

Fix 1:(30/04/2019): Visual glitch, where life drain effect would continue showing even after enemies were out of range, was fixed. Fix 2: (30/04/2019): Fixed bug where magic upgrade wasn't working correctly and displaying wrong mana. Fix 3: Assets folder was added to dropbox build, its absense was causing the maps to not load properly Fix 4: Typo and Unity UI bug was fixed, where upgrade menu would activate when pressing space

Cool game! Did feel like you had to spam click a lot and also that the upgrades didn't really matter. I love the idea though and the art for the characters is just super cute!

This was decent.
It wasn't harsh on the eyes but it didn't stand out much.
I think some more strategy in the combat would be good.

I liked the idea and the character art was great! If you had more time to work on it, I think it could be a pretty good game.

You've got a fair base for a game here. Though it's a little bare... A lot of the graphics leave a bit to be desired, with the solidly colored textures and UI looking mostly like they were produced with the shape tool. No audio and not much visual feedback, so it doesn't feel the most satisfying. And the upgrades seemed pretty inconsequential, with the default rate of gaining health and regenerating mana they didn't matter too much.

Not bad, everything works as intended, but it is not a large game. I would say it could have used a few more interesting mechanics, but that's something to think about next time. Hope you had fun making it!

Just finished your game, cool base idea. I think you can have something really cool with effects on all near cases when you do your spell. It was easy to kill enemies when they are on a corner of my character (top-left for example) and then just move when he move.
I can think about cool update to add more spell for example. Anyway good job for your first jam

Considering you had other commitments, this is a really solid game. Love the art style. I would love to see this game worked on post LD. Congrats on a great game 🙌

It's a very simple game. Congratulations on finishing the idea. Playing a game in 2 days is really complicated. Two things: Make the tiles different. Tiles equal makes the player feel a little lost. And the most important: In my opinion, songs and sound are very much lacking. In a next game put something sonorous, even if it is downloaded from the internet.
Congratulations for the game!

I also played a game for LDJAM. Try it, rate it and comment. Please.
