Colony Collapse by fantasywiz54

[raw]
made by fantasywiz54 for LD 42 (JAM)

A catastrophic failure of the AI system has led to the shutdown of the robot workforce. Just before they went offline they managed to destroy the communication system. Your only hope for your station is to last the thirty days until the next inspection.

Be careful though, because every so often new people will arrive, not realizing that the station is malfunctioning. Don't let the trash build up too much, and make sure your people are kept healthy and you might just keep your job.

-- Controls --

Your game looks fun to play, however I don't quite understand it: for some reason sometime it seems like I can't build anything.

Good work with all the graphics. I think next time it could be improved by making sure you give more feedback to the player about what to do. It took me a long time to spot the "play" button, and even after I pressed it there was no change to the play area, so it took several turns before knew I was doing the right thing. Perhaps you could put put popup on the play button saying "click me", and show part-built buildings after the first turn?

Thank you for the comments. It seems I forgot to add some information to the game.

It seems that this game is pretty easy. The problem that I got into is that I needes power to make power generators, but I couldn't make power because I didn't gave enough power generators and I couldn't destroy any buildings either. So I waiter with 2 houses, 2 hydroponics 1 power and 1 trash recycle and won the game easily. Still, a pretty fun game!

The story background for the game is genius, fits to the atmosphere.
reminds me of anno, cause i always fail there too.
what do citizens have against huge trash mountains next to their homes? ;: D

Hard to know what to do and what is happening...

It was a pretty solid game, but it could use more feedback to the player as they're clicking on things. It took me a while to figure out why it sometimes wouldn't build (worker shortages).

Nice game.

I really like how the waste management is in your core mechanics, it fits perfectly with the theme.
About the power, I have to agree with @alexkarate on that one... you should give a bit of energy over time to the player each day (at least enough to let him doing things again) so it doesn't end up stuck and waiting for the timer to run out.

Nonetheless, this is a great entry.

Nice take on the city management genre. It certainly has some potential and fits well with the theme. However, it needs some balancing as I found out it was trivial to win with only a few buildings and never removing any trash. I found this out by running out of power after 4-5 buildings, and then I could just sit and wait for colonists to arrive (and die off from starvation) and seeing the trash piling up. I had only a few free spaces at day 30, but 5 colonists made it through!

Good game, though does need some balancing. It was rather easy to win even if you made some mistakes (For example, I didn't have enough food to keep people alive pretty early and was still able to win). Upping the trash generation and perhaps having a way to destroy buildings to reclaim power would help keep the game going, I think. Still, like I said, I liked it and I think it was a nice variation on the genre.

Some information about why you can't build certain things despite their outlines being green would be nice. The other weird thing is that you need power to build a power generator. Once you forget that, you basicly can't build new stuff.
Other than that its a pretty nice entry. I really like those building / managing types of games and I'm allways surprised that people can make those in 72 hours. Good job!

Nice game! I enjoyed my time playing and it was easy to win. Needs more feedback to the player though.

Good work :)

Great strategy game and quite complete! Miss maybe a little calibration but still quite enjoyable. Lacks feedback for the player maybe, but that wasn't really a problem.
Well done!
