Great job. The artwork is solid and the controls feel appropriate for the shooting mechanic.

There's a lot of deceptively deep strategy to this game. I like it! I had a lot of fun learning how to pick off individual enemies without triggering a shootout that would get me killed. The friendly fire is a nice mechanic too. I like how the weapons have different attributes and can be used as foils against each other. The pixel art animations are also really expressive.

very cool, in the later stages picking a spot of attack and watching the ensuing mass shootout was especially fun
doesn't really hit the theme but i feel like we all collectively struggled with that ^^

Hi @IDidGame

Thank you for your kind message, massive shootout is a side effect I discovered during development that became a fun element of gameplay

Regarding the theme, when I seen it, I felt like whaaaaattttt to do with this theme :stuck_out_tongue: Then I read the post from Mike https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/41/$73264/ld41s-theme-combine-2-incompatible-genres saying "Also, do note that the theme isn't 2 incompatible GAME genres. Why not genres of film or novels?". It reminds me a movie I watched combining 2 very different genres, Cowboys & Aliens, as I like a lot these 2 universes, I tried to combine them in this entry :cowboy: :alien:

Nice mood niup! Attention to the charater animations stand out and looking smooth! Only I wish I had mouse aim to make precise shots. :) I feel it would be a lot of fun if the development will be taken further to introduce vechicles / wagons to cause massive havoc!

@T8kk thank you for your message and the idea of vehicle, for instance, a locomotive passing regularly and causing mass murders could bring a very interesting mechanic, especially if the player also have to avoid it

Great job on the game! I really enjoyed playing it and the art was great. The weapon mechanics all feel good and the music fits well. Overall a great entry! I also felt you did great interpreting the theme and applying it in a way that worked for you. I enjoy the cowboys vs. aliens theme a ton!

Really solid game! The different guns add a lot of diversity and strategy.

The text is funny, but it's hard to read some of the fly-up texts in the heat of battle.

The aesthetic is really cohesive, from the art to the sfx and music. Great job!

Lovely game, all the carnage is great fun. I like the graphics style and the way the cowboys run away or die. The game also plays well and the controls are easy to use.

Fun times! Everything from the art to the sound effects to the fonts was well thought out and meshed great together. The only real criticism I had was that the final fight with alien boss queen was a bit of a let down. But, the journey to get there was super fun. Well done!

Hi @FussenKuh, thx a bunch for your kind message and for playing the game until the final stage! I really want to add this final boss to create a real end but I kinda ran out of time :clock2: as well as energy  to polish it as much as I would, 48h is so short!

Well overall it is a cute little game. I like the music, the fact that you need to discover more weapon in each level.
It was a bit too repetitive as the goal is to survive and kill everybody but still it was fun to play. Well done :)

I liked it overall , However i thougth that musics was too loud . It could be really if peoples you killed dont reaveal if they are alien or not and when you walk next to them a alien could attack you from the corpse =) . But GG man =) .

I think the theme was missed here a little, but the game was realllly well done. It was a ton of fun and I loved the mass shoot outs that happened when you take your dude in the middle and start shooting. Good job especially for a compo. Keep up the great work!

Nice art, and although a pacifist myself, I found it unsettlingly satisfying to kill them all... Maybe I'm one of them...

I can definitely see the ♥️you put into it! It's fun, it's pretty polished, great entry overall! I do feel it doesn't fit the theme 100%, but it's great nonetheless. Cool stuff!

When it says "Press space to start" I press everything (including space) but it doesn't start. Web build on Chrome on macOS. Any Ideas ?

25. Apr 2018 · 07:46 UTC
Hi @tomeks, the game is embedded into a itch.io page, maybe the focus is not on the game, try to click with your mouse on the "press space to start" to be sure the focus is on, then click on space. If it does not work can you tell me if the menu page is animated ("press space etc", "pistols", "cowboy" are animated) and if there is any error into the chrome JavaScript console? Thank you.

@nidup yes, the stuff is animated, I am getting this error in the console:

@tomeks, thx a bunch for taking the time to open and explain this :bug:! Sounds like an existing issue related to the version of PhaserJS I use + new restriction in this Chrome version + iframe used by itch.io. I'm trying to fix it, until that, I have the exact same build deployed without iframe here https://nidup.github.io/ldjam41 it should work. Thx again

Wow it was one of the funniest game I played in LD41, it was challenging I loved the sound effects, the shoot feeling was there. I hoped there was more content from science fiction aspect. Other than that the general mechanics was solid. Progression feeling was good, weapons were cool. Great game!

What can be better than provoking guys to shoot each other? The game is so cool! Lovely voice acting mixed with solid pixel art and fitting music! The only thing I found a bit unfair is the cowboys' unlimited ammo. Every other thing, including everyday tips perfectly fits the game. Hope to see more games from you in the future!

I had the same issue when you unable to press space. After looking into the console I've realized that the game didn't have time to register the device (keyboard) on the load (which is understandable because I usually open links in the new tab).

Fixed by pressing F5 and spamming mouse1 in order to get the game in focus before it starts to load.

I believe you can fix it by deactivating this option

Great game, really challenging ! I enjoyed the various weapons and also the fact that ennemies would shoot each other, it made positionning and weapon choices matter. You managed to hit a nice balance for your game 👌

So far the best game I've tried this Ludum Dare. Would love some kind of way to spend my money and more diversity in the skins for civilians. But overall the mechanics of the game are very good!

This is super fun to play. Once I got the shotgun I felt like I **owned** this town! I like how easy it is to down enemies, and in turn, how easy it is to die. It adds some higher stakes to the gameplay. I also like how some enemies will just go crazy and start shooting with reckless abandon. It _does_ feel a bit like I'm playing "Shooting Spree: The Game", but it's super fun so I don't really have any qualms with that.
Nice job, and great entry!

Fun game. Nice art. Always fun to shoot aliens. Almost would have preferred a much more zoomed in mode where I could see things closer up. Nice effort for 48h.

Wow this is high quality ! The gameplay (thanks to great graphics and audio) provide good sensations, I liked the fact that you kill the enemy with one shot and get killed with one shot too. It's really amazing to be able to create a game like that in only 48h.

Next LD I will definitly try Phaser JS which seems to be a great lib.

Neat little game.

The music was a bit repetitive in my opinion and damn, was it hard to kill those machine gun guys. Simply wouldn't die in one shot.

Gameplay was pretty smooth. And it was quite cool to see all the armed guys kill each other, simply because one person is shooting around.

Well done.

Had fun playing this one mostly because of friendly fire which allowed me to sort out who needed to be kiled last!
The music is repetitive found my self turning it off or lower while playing. Reminds me of old days atari.
Doesn't fit the theme but who cares :)

I like the way we have to learn which weapon has which property by trying and watching what other characters do. This is really a good idea and the progression day by day makes it like a kind of friendly tutorial.
I really enjoyed playing your game, and the graphics are really great.

I wish the current weapon you are using were more highlighted in the top-right list (it is once when you change, but not if you change again without shooting)

Great game anyway, I really liked it!

Nice game. I was able to make it to the end and defeat the alien boss. I was sort of hoping the objective would be to defeat the aliens while saving as many cowboys as possible. There just didn't appear to be any way to differentiate the aliens from the cowboys, so I just ended up killing them all. Maybe have some powerup you can use to detect aliens, like the glasses in They Live or Bart vs the Space Mutants. The aliens could move differently, so it would be like a Hidden in Plain Sight game, which would make it more fitting for the "combine two genres" theme. I liked the different weapons and each seemed to have their own pros and cons.
