Chocolate box factory by BoltKey

[raw]
made by BoltKey for LD35 (COMPO)
Before I entered this LD, I decided I wanted to make a grid puzzle with possibly random generated levels, as I made some already and knew they can be done fast. Which I did. It actually took me just about 18 hours, or one day. I feel like it is finished though.

UPDATE: I just made a very slight change of defaulting the music to muted and decreasing volume of the win sound. I hope that can still go into the compo version and doesn't break the rules.

Puzzles were good. Music was a bit irritating after a short while. Good job none the less!

Good presentation of the game with the rolling box. Music is bad but it doesnt matter because there are mute options. The level generator is a big bonus!

Ha ha, puzzle 6 is a trap ;)

The music is pretty awful, but the graphics are not at all what I expected after your blog post. It's likely that simpler, stylistic graphics would ultimately work better, but these are by no means awful. Just perhaps a bit noisy for your puzzles with the candy pictures. You weren't at all wrong to experiment with graphics, even if they don't ultimately fit this game as well as they might a different kind of game. :)

The puzzles themselves are very good! The mechanic of having some switch to squares works nicely. We have to work out if it's necessary, and if so, on what piece or pieces. Full marks for Fun :)

Thanks for sharing this! I enjoyed it quite a bit.

Er, at least, my level 6 was a trap ;) I didn't mess with the generation. But yeah, I had fun. Solid puzzles. Even more impressive if they're generated randomly, wow.

Good interpretation of the theme, well done on implementing procedural level generation!

I really like the take on the theme, as well as the concept of your game. I included it in my video compliation series of Ludum Dare games, if you’d like to check them out :) https://youtu.be/NUKW4hicpYU

Wow. I am impressed! Very good level design and solid animation. Cute chocolates, too! Very well done! Very cool take on the tetris theme of fitting odd blocks somewhere.

Took me a bit to figure out it was just swapping between squares and the original shape, after that it was challenging enough. Great job!

I like the idea of randomly generated puzzles. There's a lot more that could be done with these mechanics.

Nice addition of the theme to an existing puzzle mechanic. I had a hard time at some levels. Couldn't remember the second shape long enough :-)

Nice idea, very different, and the random generation seems pretty clever too. As others have said, the music got very tiring quickly though!

Nice Game, but the fact that you can only make one shape in addition to the original shape feels boring. Perhaps more shapes, but it's more about how they are placed in relation to each other (more of the same type that are connected, more points you get)

Great puzzle game.

This is a game I'd like to keep playing later on.

Sometimes it's hard to select the pieces, but I like this game a lot.

I like it a lot! It's like Tetris meets Mahjong. Impressive random generation!

Great job with the random level generator, and a solid puzzle foundation to build it on.

With some polish (more exciting sound effects, flashier art) you would have a pretty nice little puzzle game you could probably sell on an app store.

Nice puzzle game. I like seeing LD games that are challenging for reasons other than janky controls. :p

Random puzzle generation is an awesome bit of polish for a compo entry.

The shape fitting games are super neat! I like how you made each piece be able to change shape which allowed for more combinations. Overall an awesome entry!

Found this through Feedback Friends after LD36.

Great game! I love puzzle games like this. The biggest problem is that the control to switch between normal and boxed shape is really hard to use.

Also the music doesn't loop perfectly, which makes my hair stand on end. But the mute options make that not an issue.

I love that it's randomly generated and that the puzzles are still reasonable. Great work!
