Great work! It took me a while to get the hang of but I eventually got that I had to hit the correct key to match the enemy to optimize my kills, and that some enemies had different # of horns. I think some visual indicators that you hit the right key to match the enemy would have been helpful. Having the control key up all the time would have made it easier, but that may be by design. The enemies who gave 100 health were life-savers, but it also felt random, maybe if the enemies had visual indicators to tell how much health they would drop it would feel less random. The game didn't have the right balance to hook me, but I think it could. There were games where I seemed to do everything perfectly and still lost due to what felt like the randomness of the rewards. Another way to add variety might have been to have enemies eventually gain shields or something so they require multiple key presses to kill. Overall a solid entry that you should be proud of building in < 48 hours.

A very basic game, which could be improved in several ways. The artstyle is kinda weird and the graphics clash with each other, if you'd want it to be a little more psychedelic I'd say double down on this. The gameplay works quite well, with the main challenge being to remember which key holds off which enemy, but it gets a bit boring quickly, some more variety would be cool. I never got into the situation where I had to really keep on eye out for my health.
Just a thought: If you'd add a visible cooldown on the skills and design the enemy waves accordingly, this would probably turn into a rythm game, which might be worth exploring. Anyway, despite my criticism I enjoyed this game, good job and congrats on finishing it!

Its a nice game. Its getting a bit boring after a while, but i liked the game overall. Next time dont use the "Z","X","C" - Keys. With other keyboard layouts (QWERTZ-Layout) it's quite annoying to press the keys.

The game is decent, no major problem (crashed once because of my audio device, no big deal.)

Now, you can reach for a higher overall quality :)
Keep going!

The gameplay is solid, however the art could use some work. I always find that it helps to do practice art for a couple days or even a week before the jam in order to get better results. Great first attempt!! Keep up the good work!!

Nice game. You didn't want to be rated for the music?
For me, the game could be a bit more difficult. Once you remember which monster goes with which button you can go on indefinitely. So maybe changes of the keys or faster monsters.
But for a Ludum Dare it's also nice to see all of the game.

I do like the simple controls, although I did feel that sometimes my keypresses were not recognized.

Congratulations with your first LD! Its really pleasure to see teens in gamedev. My advice to team up with classmates or friends. I do it for GGJ19 and LD44, and its realyl fun to develop with someone else. Yeah, this game simple, but we both know that you become better with every game or even prototype.

Really cool game! The art style is unique and the overall experience is quite good.
It would be better if you keep the instructions at the bottom(which key corresponds to which monster) throughout the game as it would reduce the player's strain from remembering them. Besides, they barely obstructs the game. Also, a simple ground and background would help
Anyway, great job!

First thing i noticed was in the instructions screen, there was some problems with things lining up, id reccomend you check that out. Other than that, good simple game, took a while for me to get a hang of it though, and it wasnt to clear when you were hitting towards an enemy.
06. May 2019 · 07:36 UTC
This game is very similar to this other submission I saw: https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/44/wizards-bane

Is this based off of something or is it just a coincidence?

Hard to find the limit between land and sky. I am not familiarized with green sky yet. You can maybe spice up the game with more and more enemies at the same time and change the speed of enemies after some times. I reach score 100 and then quit the game. You maybe have bug when enemies reach the castle they not always kill some of you life. This game maybe fun with more polish, don't give up
