Snake Charmer

Snake Charmer

Snake your way through this ever-changing dungeon. Fill up your stomach before heading over to the next dungeon. Your next dungeon will magically take the shape of your snake!

Control using the W A S D keys or by swiping left, right, up or down.

In the top left you can see how many gems you will need to eat before you can go to the next dungeon. When you go to the next dungeon the eaten gems will be added to you total score.

Details

The original idea was to make a dungeon using the snake after which you would explore the dungeon in a dungeon crawler type game. Of course this was way too ambitious and I quickly had to scale down. I decided to keep the idea of making a level with the snake.

I wanted to added different types of gem with which you could build the level. Each type of gem would correspond with a different room. Each room would have some unique characteristics, a room with traps, a room with health, a room with enemies. This way there would be some strategy with chaining rooms together.

Unfortunately I had too compromise greatly on both these ideas and finally I finished with this game. I think it's a fun little twist on the snake game but ultimately it doesn't offer much content.

Thank you for playing my game and I hope you enjoy it!

SNAKE! That's genius it fits the theme so well and this is a great take on the old classic.

The only thing I'd ask for is to be able to change the speeds of the snake. One of my favorite parts of playing snake clones online, was being able to play at triple speeds, to make the game more difficult and fun for myself.

Overall, I really realllly like this game. 1) because I'm a sucker for snake games 2) because It's a done in a way which really gives life back to the classic.

Like the person above said, the idea of using the Snake format for this jam is very clever, and the snake itself looks good from an artistic point of view.

The only issue with this game is that the controls are slightly janky. There have been several occasions where I press a button and the snake doesn't move in the direction I want it to.

Overall, considering how much you had to strip down, I'd say that this is pretty good.

Great Idea - but the controls are a little bit slow - it doesnt feel very fluid but besides that I think its great

I enjoyed it, and it ran very smooth on my phone. Seems like it would be a lot of fun if it had more content, so I'd say you did a great job in 48 hours

I really liked the concept of being able to shape the next room with the snake. Added a new dimension of planning.

Visuals are really nice, if the snake would have been animated/smooth I would have been a 5 :)

Nice take on snake! The only problem I had was the characters grid like movement. It caused me to run into quite a lot of things on accident. Would suggest making the movement more organic :)

Snake is a good idea to fit the theme !
The game is overall really polished, the controls are a little cluncky though, they didn't respond some times

fun take on a classic game! could use some music and maybe a little more visual variety. also this can happen:

It's a classical game that fits perfect in this theme. The snake looks like made of light that is pretty nice.

Kudos for making a web game with a _proper_ UI, leveraging the native browser stuff instead of bonkering an immediate-mode directly in the canvas!

Well polished, but the death sound effect is quite jarring compared to the silence.

@6smith I knew that could happen but I never actually encountered it myself. Let's just say that you could have prevented it by shaping your snake differently in the previous level

The top down 3d perspective is nice, and the blocks, lighting, colours and palette all fit together really well. The snake in particular looks great! Like other/s have commented I did find sometimes my key presses were not registered properly -- perhaps this is the case if it receives it on the same frame as when the snake moves? Not sure. A touch of audio here and there would really have been the icing on the snake (read: cake). Good work!

Great look and feel, esp. for a compo entry. Sadly the level generator had a habit of making impassable sections for me… Well done.

Fresh take on snake! This is well done. I like the look of it but the sound could use some work. I know this is just the way you coded the snake to move but it looks like I'm playing at a low framerate. Sorry I don't have any suggestions.... I did enjoy the game though :)

Cool game. Cool graphics. Works very well in browser. Seems I can't progress anymore because the levels are randomized and there are pillars blocking all routes?
