GÖLDF by CaptainPilot

[raw]
made by CaptainPilot for LD 44 (JAM)

Browser version available, plus Windows and MacOS builds!

Think you're good at golf? Then put your money where your balls are... were... LOOK, IT'S GOLF WITH COINS, OK?!

Each time you shoot a coin, its value reduces by $1 - when it hits 0, that coin is dead: you can't take any more shots with it! You'll also encounter obstacles that require payment to remove or use: fences cost currency to smash down, and pressure pads only trigger when coins of sufficient value sit on them. It's a mercenary world out on the GÖLDF course!

Remember: GOLD + GOLF + an umlaut for no reason = GÖLDF

Controls - Click and drag back to shoot a coin (aim and power will be shown) - Arrow keys to pan the camera around - Use "Prev" and "Next" buttons to jump camera between coins - "Reset level" if you get stuck!

All assets (art, music, SFX, code) were made from scratch during the jam by our team.

Your overall score will be shown at the end - the more $$$ the better! Let us know how you do, and let's see who can get the best score!

I love all the insane trickshots you can do in this game by bouncing off the terrain. Luxor, Snooker, Octo, Move Along Magic, are pretty fun when you ignore the gimmick and try to just maximize money by making wild shots that ignore the entire map. In the end I think I got a pretty alright score

I do want to note that on the Luxor level (level 5), you can take out both of the paywalls with a single 3 coin, though it is bit a tricky to line it up.

Awesöme game! Everything felt well polished and the instructions are clear. I don't know about the physics of the coins because they kinda feel a little bit random ( Otherwise there are cool shortcuts possible this way). Another thing I think was weird is that on Stage 5 the 2$ coin ( after shot 1$ ) can't break the 2$ fence, however the 3$ coin ( after shot 2$ ) can go through the 2$ fence ( dead after that ) and continues traveling through the other 1$ fence without problems.
But as I said, all in all it's a great game!

Very Polyshed and it remembers me of my father playing "Chinquilho/Malha", trowing metalic discs on the beach towards circles drawn on the sand to score points as close as you get from the center...
I would Just put a more dynamic background music, it gets anoying and repetitive after a few seconds...

My favorite game so far! Great job!!
I only missed be able to see around without having to send a "kamikaze" coin hahaha

@hugolnx You can move the camera around with the arrow keys, not that there's anything wrong with the kamikaze coin approach ;)

Really fun! One thing I'd really like to see is mouse camera control, since using the arrow keys can feel a bit awkward in an otherwise entirely mouse driven game. Besides that, though, I enjoyed it!

I really enjoyed this! The music was lighthearted and felt like it belonged in the game. The Ikea instructions were a great touch, along with the random umlaut.

I was a little frustrated at times with the coin physics. Mostly it felt like the best strategy was to just try over and over for the hole in one. I would have liked to see some additional timing based shots or something. That hole with the four in the middle and the two fives on the outside was nasty!

Great polish and execution on this idea! Absolutely loved playing it and hope you'll continue to develop it. Could be a great casual game.

Good idea! Never encountered a bug or was not able to progress. Smooth expirience. Though I wish there was more ikdea :D

Just wanted to say thanks to everyone for all of the kind comments and feedback! :)

We'd definitely like to add more variation to the music if we turn this in to a full release (@ivan-garcia-filho) - it's a bit of a short loop at the moment!

Mouse movement on the camera would be big improvement (@sciman101). I think we'd look to make a mobile version if we release it as a full game, so this would be essential. Definitely something we'd look to add in.

We could probably do with refining the physics a little (@minibobbo) and smoothing our how sensitive input is. We'd found Snööker to be a really tough level too, so that one would probably move much later on in the game if we did it again.

Really cool game. The arrow hides under the terrain. But besides that this would be the perfect time waster on mobile. Great job!

Great game, but I couldn't get past level 7. I would have liked if the shooting was the other way around (arrow on the same side of the coin as the mouse cursor). It would have also been nice if there was a little marker showing you what force you had applied previously (before the reset) foreach shot of each coin. Other than those things, was it very enjoyable!

outstanding entry, you should release this game on a bigger store. Only thing that I've noted that could be fixed case it's not like that by design, is the fact that you can shoot the coin with full power at the level bound and it will be able to pass above it (managed to beat the level that you have a single 8 coin with 2 shots)

I like golf games like these.
Very well done.
Some levels are somewhat hard, but it's not boring to try again, so all is well.

Nice game. Keep up the good work.

Really enjoyed this, lot of potential showed in the puzzles for where this could go in a full game with some neat ideas here. Also want to echo other comments that it looked lovely and felt pretty solid and polished.
