Sugar Rush ! by Behenate

[raw]
made by Behenate for LD 39 (COMPO)

This game is result of my 48 hours of work. I hope you like it! To be honest i think this game is better than my last LD entry, but you have the power of vote, you decide what is good and what is not!

Builds

WebGL build - : https://behenate.itch.io/sugar-rush

Desktop build : https://drive.google.com/file/d/0B8fD6x41nmfGV29FQmxwT0ZTcDQ/view?usp=sharing

Desktop build feels little better due to higher fps.

Game is pretty hard, but nothing true jammer couldn't handle ;)

Story

You are ninja. Ninjas need a lot of energy to sustain their powers, that's why you need sugar all the time! When you are out of sugar, you die!

Yeah I know that there is no story, but i had no time for this :(

I'm not really used to hard plataforming, so this was painfully hard, but very fun.

Also I would LOOOOOOVE if either the level restarted automatically after you died, or you could restart it with a keyboard key, having to grab the mouse to click after every death was the only thing i didn't like about this.

cheers

Oh, thanks I can add that :)

whoa and i thought my game was hard. Cool game but i would say the controls, particularly for the wall jump could use some tweaking. I only made it to level 3 and i thought i was doing pretty well. If you are going to go for a brutally hard game in the meat boy style you should take out the replay screen and just go straight in to keep the player hooked. Also maybe shorter levels to ease the frustration. Cool game

Hi, thanks for feedback, now you can replay immediately after death (even before death screen) by pressing space

The camera movement is nauseating, and I wasn't able to walljump up the first section. I kept falling down. I think you need to work on the walljump more. The jump noise was very loud and unpleasant.
Some wall slide friction would help as well.

Thanks for feedback, now wall climbing should be little easier. Camera gets less nauseating in further levels, because action get's faster. I can't add wall friction, since it is a new feature and it is against the rules.

That was some hard platforming but very well made. The wall jump was an interesting mechanic and i liked the simple artstyle :) Great Job!

Very hard, got to the third level I think before giving up... The wall jumping was a bit hard and the acceleration and retardation of the characters speed made the movement feel a bit unresponsive

Really cute graphics and take on the theme! The landing sound was a little annoying to me. I like that the difficulty ramps up a little quickly, even if I didn't get very far -- had a good time throwing myself against the challenge of wall jumping.

In my opinion I recommend you to work a little bit more in the controls and how tha player moves. However this is a great job and a pretty solid platform game. Congratulations!

That game was far too hard for me

looks nice, i like the visual retro style.
I would have a look at the wall climbing like others have said. I played for 20 minutes and almost got to the top of the first level climb.

good job and theme definitely followed :)

It might've been because of the web client, but the wall jumping was very inconsistent. Sometimes I could jump, sometimes I couldn't. After a while I managed to make it out of the first tutorial level, and across the spikes only to jump down a shaft and be met with more spikes. It's a pet peeve of mine in platformers to have to die in order find out how to avoid it in the next life, so that's where I gave up.

All in all, the art is simple bus nice with some nice particle effects, the sound is minimal but clear. Objectively, pretty good!

A bit of acceleration towards the opposite direction when you walljump would be very, very welcomed.

I like the meat boy vibe, but it was soooo hard, maybe a few easier levels to get used to the controls would help.

The wall-jumping seemed also quite difficult, maybe extend the time in which you can jump of the wall would make it a bit more accesible.

But well done, a complete and playable game :)

The wall jump was a little frustrating, some momentum away from the wall could have fixed this, or maybe slowing down when colliding. I also found the jumping height a little too low, and some of the platforms a too small. But it was still an enjoyment to play, keep it up!

I think it just falls on the line of being more fun than frustrating. If you want to bring it over further I suggest making the jumping feel a little less floaty, and giving the spikes a more forgiving hitbox. I'm not sure exactly how you would fix the jumping, but I think if you make it so that pressing a movement arrow in mid air slows you down instead of turns you around, and therefore transferring your momentum to the other direction, that might make it a bit better.

Overall, great job given the time limit.

I'm sorry but it's way too hard for me :). Wall jumping is refusing to work all the time and buzzsaws didn't help. Ninja seems to slide a little bit and that makes precise movement harder. It's a cute game, but as sadistic platformer it requires more attention to controlls.

It's quite hard to get the wall jump to work, at least on my end. It took me several tries to pass the first section only. I know the game is supposed to be hard, but you should play against the level design, not the mechanics. A little more impulse in the other direction should help. Also, the first level should be a bit shorter, maybe split it into several "floors". That way you cheat the player to make him feel like progress have been made. After that, give them hell :)

Other than that, the art and sounds are good and I like what you did with the theme.

Great work!

Thanks for all of your feedback and 20+ ratings! Wall jumping is pretty bad and inconsistent, but as I made game for 48 hours I got used to it and thought it was fine. I made it easier just after submitting the game, but it is little late to fix it compleatly now :/
