Penti by DogSquad
The game I made for Ludum Dare 40! ( My first Ludum Dare :D ) Press space in the menu and enter the code "Lava".
In this game, you play as a pentagon who is in a world of geometric shapes. People think that pentagons are bad though, Because everyone else is an octagon. They try to kill you. Now, you are finally armed and ready to fight!
But the problem is, whenever you kill one it turns into a wall. Good luck!

Known bugs: Wall gets spawned over you. CONTROLS
W, A, S, D to move.
Left mouse to shoot.

Good job on your first LDjam entry, and you can only go up from here :)
For the next project, I'd recommend getting a dedicated artist so you can focus on gameplay mechanics so you don't have to compromise time to create assets.
If a block isn't attached to other, they get destroyed after a minute. And the game is win or lose. You will succeed or die trying. I like it, it has potential. Good job!
Check out my game if you would like!

If you can get rid of the bugs, this game would be quite playable. It's smart to keep it simple for your first entry. I had no issues with sound, or much of anything else, just getting stuck on those black boxes.
* Did you intend to let the player get stuck in the wall? If so, perhaps you should just kill the player immediately when that happens (with some feedback to let them know how they died). Personally, I would have pushed the player out of the wall and let them continue playing.
* The effects on the bullets were uninspiring and not "juicy". Also consider upping the pace of play by making them on-hit-kill and then spawning more enemies to balance that out.
* The bullets don't emit from the center of the player character sprite.
* The player character sprite doesn't rotate with the mouse. I think it ought to.
* I didn't notice much of a change in difficulty when walls were added, except that I had to make sure I wasn't too close to enemies when I killed them. As long as I did that, the game actually got easier because the enemies couldn't chase me as effectively. Implement path finding to enable the enemies to move around the walls.
* What determines the orientation of the walls that appear? I think the player ought to have some indirect control over that. This would make the game more strategic.
It would be useful to have a Health Bar so you can check your own health.
I didn't understand the rule for the orientation of spawning the walls, the enemies also got stuck there and I couldn't kill them. Some control over spawning could help.
The sound was cool, it fit with the action.
Overall it's a great prototype, not the best of the games of course, but for someone who has never done this it's a great first start. Don't let anything unmotivate you, first time and alone it's bound to be a very simple game with simple looks. But you did finish it, so be proud of that. Congratulations :)
