@DeadlyMidnight On the browser version or the Windows version?

@Mister_Kweh It was the browser version.

@DeadlyMidnight What browser are you using? And are you able to play at all or do you get the error right away?

Took me a while to notice the "Current Action" bit so struggled on the first screen. Once I figured it out I 'flew' through it!

Great works on the cards, they look and sound great.

I'm not a fan of the little *current action* panel, I took a while to see it, and something is off about it, it looks like you have to drag and drop things on it or something, I don't know. Same goes for the 4 other panels of its kind, I looked at same at first, but not much was going on so I stopped paying attention and looked at the bars on the sides instead.

@captainpilot @yorsh Thanks for playing! I admit it's lacking in the UI department. Things like an interactive tutorial option would be helpful or better displaying of information in general.

Thanks for the plays @captainpilot and @Yorsh, we were short on time there at the end when the visuals were going up, so we just wanted something to at least let the player know some of what was going on behind the scenes. We'll definitely take your comments into consideration when we do future builds!

Such a cool game. I can't believe how much content you packed in with such a short amount of time.

@CaldwellYSR Thanks! We were all really pushing ourselves. You wouldn't believe how many times I thought we weren't going to finish on time! Thankfully the teammates are super supportive and kept me sane through the weekend!!

It also took some time for me to figure out what was going on, put I picked it up quick and really enjoyed it! I love the subtle humor in some of the cards!

@_benhumphries Thank you! We do plan on adding a tutorial at some point, I believe. Or at least an in-game description of the rules.

Great fun and humor! There's a bit much going on in the UI at once so maybe explain each stat, but other than that really enjoyed it!

Interesting combo. One thing I would have liked was a way to zoom in on the cards. The text was a bit hard to read.

Surely you didn't manage to design all these cards in one weekend. Nifty game, loved all the little jokes. I'm not sure that I fully grasped all of the rules and mechanics at play (without studying the tutorial too closely), but I was still able to get through it. Really nice job overall.

@justalocalhero Believe it or not, it happened. Under the little comment section, the artist, @carystringfield, said 2.5 per hour. He was churning them out like a madman. And thank you for playing!

Saw your game on stream! Nice game. I love the text and drawings on the card! For me, it really fulfilled the card game fantasy. My only complaint would be the complexity at the beginning. GJ!

Had the feeling playing this game that I get when I open a new complicated tabletop game, but this doesn't come with a detailed book about how to play. Literally only problem I had was with tutorialization, once I figured this out I actually enjoyed it a lot (sorry if that didn't come across on stream, reading cards & chat at the same time is hard)

@aevek Thank you for playing our game! Glad you enjoyed it! We definitely understand the lack of an in-game tutorial is one of the big drawbacks we have right now. Our game is pretty complex, and we were incredibly pressed for time before the submission time. We currently have a short guide on the itch page that I'm planning on expanding with images and more detailed info today, but adding a guide in-game is first on our to-do list. Thanks again for the playthrough and the feedback!

I thought about making a card game for this ludum dare, but I felt overwhelmed at coming up with fun mechanics and decided otherwise, I think you guys did a great job with it! I loved the random sound clips that would play with some of the cards as well!

A very interesting idea! I finally managed to touch down after a very rocky flight - I must have had a dragon magnet attached, or something.

I didn't think that a flight simulator of any sort could keep me entertained, but I had a great time thanks to the bright, colourful art, inventive card effects and witty flavour text. It was a lot of fun trying to keep all the gauges balanced, although they seemed a little 'static' to me: my altitude hardly ever changed, and I couldn't cheer up my passengers no matter what I did. I'm sure you can easily tweak this, though, with a little more balancing/more drastic card effects!

All in all, it was a very enjoyable experience. It reminded me a little bit of 'Reigns', which is a very good thing.

@justalocalhero I did the first sketch of our UI, did the illustration for the cockpit, designed the cards, including the back, logo, and border, and did all the card illustrations, over the weekend. @Laurim did the game design part of the cards. Naming them, writing the text, and determining their effects.

@CaryStringfield @Mister_Kweh Very impressive work. I'll be honest, I was trying to set you up for a softball after I saw all the Airplane! jokes ("I did design all the cards, and don't call me shirley")

I have to admit, I was a bit confused at the beginning but that confusion was very brief. Once I played a few cards I got into the swing of things and everything became clear. Your game reminds me a bit of a title called Reigns, which isn't a bad thing. It's a similar "single-player card game with needs management" type of idea.

Flight Deck turned out to be surprisingly fun and I really enjoyed my time with the game.

@Rulrite @LemonBalmGames Thanks for the feedback! A tutorial and card re-balancing are on our to-do list for after the jam. You guys both mentioned Reigns, which we hadn't heard of. Just looked it up and it looks really cool! And they have 1200-1300 cards!?!?!?! @CaryStringfield - You ready to draw up a ton of new card art? Haha.

The gameplay is very deep for a jam game! Very well done. It must be hard to coordinate a team of 5 too. It was a little hard to understand everything that was going on though. The first few turns I played random card to try and understand how the gauges would react. I guess they all go from 0 to 100 but it's hard to be sure. Once again well done ! I'm looking forward for your next games :)

This is a surprisingly complete entry, I managed to play through to a landing (and was glad it DID land). I don't know how much time you spent on balancing things but I felt quite strongly that I was having to work to keep things in the air, which kept it interesting. Just instantly quite absorbing, nice entry :)

Interesting and unique game play. I like the card descriptions they are pretty awesome and the images are pretty cool too. There are a couple spelling errors and very minor graphical glitches here and there.

@spacemonkey Thanks! It helps that we've worked on a semester project together during college before and play D&D together every Wednesday night for roughly 1.5 years now. As for the gauges, the mins are 0 and the max I believe are 100 for all but the speed (which is 50). Those numbers we didn't really spend much time on, which feels unbalanced at the moment. We rushed to get it all done. Anyway, you will see more games from us in the future. Thanks again for the feedback!

@hexagore Thanks for playing! We actually spent very little time balancing the game, which still needs attention. We told ourselves to keep the numbers small and take note of how each resource fluctuates before making any adjustments. Anyway, glad you enjoyed it!

You guys have one hell of a complex game in here!

The hard part is that complex games tend to drive away the players before they find the real fun - and your game is very deep and challenging! I started clueless, but it became quite fun once I started getting hang of it.

The only thing I can offer as tip is to work on a clearer explanations of both the system, the cards and the effects. The less we have to read to understand, the better is the explanation - and with a complex system like yours, you'd have benefitted a lot from icons and symbols (you could create icons for each bar, like magic the gathering mana symbols, for example, instead of having to write "+1 happiness" and stuff).

Great job!

Needs more cards that have mixed results (positive on one axis, negative on another). The oxygen masks card should totally remove the effect of the crying children, too. That would be super cool.

Yep - agree with a lot of the comments above: really deep for a game jam. And unlike most of the games this LD (mine included!), you "combine two incompatible themes" in a really aesthetically seamless way: it doesn't feel like you've cluncked two different things together, it feels like a cohesive whole. And has an Airplane! vibe, so it's a winner for me.

Great job all around. Props to all the soundbites you put into the game, it really added to the humor of the cards you use. The art was also very pleasing to the eye. My only complaint was trying to read the tiny text at the bottom of the cards stating what it would effect. A very fun game however!
Mister_Kweh
30. Apr 2018 · 21:55 UTC
@durgan Thanks! We are planning to reverse the size and position of the text I believe, so that the Effects are bigger and easier to read than the flavor text. Thanks for the feedback!!!
