Fast Fast Fire by Tay

[raw]
made by Tay for LD 43 (COMPO)

Fast Fast Fire is an arcade inspired racing game in which you control a firetruck going at full speed in the streets. Try to save more stuff then you break to now get fired yourself!

Controls :

W,A,S,D or Arrow keys - Move

Space Bar - Shoot water (when not on cooldown)

More:

I was working both on Saturday and Sunday so I didn't get much time to work on this entry (about 10-12 hours) but I'm really proud of what I made. I wish I had time to add 1 or 2 more levels and add more sound effects.

The base idea was to only have to drive and then you'd get a different play mode, where you would control a fireman and extinguish stuff, but due to the lack of time I had to mix both together and ended up with this version.(Rip fireman sprite, I really liked you but I didn't get the chance to use you) fireman.png

Me: I'm a solo game developer, this is my (Something-th) Ludum Dare. I've been doing games for a bit more then 3 years now. I'm currently trying out a new approach at game development by working on a project where I release a new game every month and share my "discoveries",analytics,postmortems,source,etc...with my patrons

I liked it, nice arcade style game. Although the music was a bit much. Had fun though!

I don't think making the ground and the breakable stuff the same color was a good idea. The game is ok tho.

I really like how this game looks and sound, really has a retro feel. Props for that. I feel the water cooldown should be faster, I didn't like missing so many flames, but I guess this is where the sacrifice part comes in. Maybe I was playing it wrong, because I could not fill the blue bar up like it's shown in one of the screenshots.

Now I get it, you have to avoid the obstacles on the road. It would make sense if they were white or somehow different form the road. Maybe add a short sound for every time you hit one. Otherwise great game!

I liked a lot the visuals, sound and the overall simple but fun nature of the gameplay. Great job!

Simple but effective graphics. The cooldown for the water was a little too long for me, and it was a bit hard to avoid so much clutter that I was immediately fired 😂 Great for the time you spent on it. Keep up the good work.

i find running over the bushes to be the most effective way of maintaining a good broken/rescued balance.

Man yeah, definitely nailed the 'classic arcade game' feel. This would fit right at home on the 2600 also. EXCEPT for the difficulty curve. whew, too hard right off the bat. I really dig the mechanic though, and echo what the other person said about the buildings and cars and stuff being near the same hue as the background. I, for one, liked the sound as it contributes to the retro aesthetic, but i could see how people would be annoyed. Probably with a bit more work, it'd be more varied and less annoying. Could've tried to work in the theme more by emphasizing the 'sacrifice' aspect (maybe run people over instead of trash cans, haha), but anyway critique over - great job!
