Story:

In 2018 the bitcoin crisis has escalated and eventually led to the society's downfall. States descended into chaos and their remains are ran by the corporations and private armies controller by warlords. The world has become a hunting ground where only one rule applies - survival of the fittest. But there is still hope, legendary City of the lights. Legend says, it's hard to reach the city and the journey requires many sacrifices. But legendary neon tank warriors are not scared of sacrifice and to reach the end of their journey they are able to sacrifice even components from their tanks.

You are one of the legendary neon tank warriors

And this is your journey

Controls:

WASD / Arrow Keys Move tank around

Mouse Aim

Left Mouse Button Primary Weapon

Right Mouse Button Secondary Weapon

CTRL / CMD + Q Quit game any time

Tools:

Unity, Photoshop, Blender, Audacity, DoTween (Unity Plugin)

Notes:

This time we worked for around 24 hours in total (12 hours per day, 2 days)

There is a known bug in the game that causes "give up" text to disappear on the button. If this happens, the red button means -> Double Click to Give Up. Another know bug is that under some circumstances some enemies might be able to push you out of level. We also had some performance problems with runtime nav mesh regeneration but that is hopefully fixed / improved.

Source code is stripped of all the paid Unity plugins (editor extensions) and pro version of DoTween was replaced with free version. But the game is still fully functional. Requires Unity 2018.3.x (uses nested prefabs)

We did not create all the Audio (we have downloaded music and some sound effects) so we opt-out Audio category. Music was downloaded from https://freemusicarchive.org/ by Bio UniMetre

Really good game, loved the graphics and the gameplay. Removing the huge text at the beginning and giving the player some indications are some improvements but overall it is a really well developed game.

Smartest use of the theme so far, awesome twist with the whole downgrade system (Reminded me of minimetro and Zyguratt). I was about to give up when I finally reached the parking spot. Fun 5/5 !!!

Awesome game! Sacrificing the controls is an awesome ideia. I agree with @edwarkun that it would be nice to have some indications (even if you might have to sacrifice it)
Great Job!

Really good and polished game,a pause menu will greatly help the game, the art style is really good, note that the "Hello" tank (the tank made me laugh the first time I saw him) can push outside the world forever. In short, a great game :) .

Wow! Very nice entry. Clever use of the theme, nice graphics, understandable controls.
We wrote nearly the exact same intro and outro text to our game. :)

Just wondering... the city of lights "is a lie", right? :D

Really nice game! I included it in my compilation video series of games from the Ludum Dare, if you’d like to take a look :) https://youtu.be/qbVCRHP5Rcg

This bloom sets a Tron like vibe, which is nice ... however I missed some soundtrack to go along with it, something more daft punk like .. the music is good, but I think it could have some changes to go better with the graphics

Really cool idea, well executed. Of course some neon aestethics is always cool. I once had a bug where I went out of the map. Great wntry!

Nice game, the concept and enemies are very well. Just, I was stuck out of the map because of the enemy that push you

That was awesome ! Tron tank ! I did it with 9 sacrifices. You totally nailed it !
We too tried to work on player habilities over sacrifices :)

Good work! loved that "retro futuristic 80's neon" style xD

Great fun, I really liked how (it seemed at least) the 'deck' of sacrifices were random, luck making the experience feel more dynamic. As someone who thinks parallel parking is a fun challenge the driving controls were perfect
Only change I'd suggest is getting rid of the wall of text at the beginning- most people will skip it and your aesthetic tells more about this world than text anyway.

Really well done! I've seen a few games doing the "sacrifice your mechanics" thing but you managed to make it unique and well thought out. The difficulty was fairly well done, I finished right as I started to run out of things to sacrifice. I do think the primary weapon could've been a bit more powerful, I often found myself just trying to speed through certain sections. It would be nice if the barrel rotated a little faster as well. All in all this game was great!

Nice game! The graphical style you went for really stood out to me, and I liked your interpretation of the theme; solid, and not distracting from the core concept of your game. Two of my criticisms are that I feel like the tank should have more health OR there should be less bullets (either that, or I suck at these games :/), and that I feel the path to the end of the game should be a bit more straight-forward. All the dead-ends I found were a bit irritating. I really like the rest of the game though, and you executed it marvelously. Great job!

This may very well be my favourite entry yet. The neon look was striking (any chance you could post a link to the source code? I'm curious how those kinds of graphics are made in Unity), the gameplay solid and the sacrifice theme was implemented well. I like how you get so many mulligans, yet your sacrifice total is told at the end so you can go back and beat your record. Very well done.

@bificommander Hello, I can make the git repo with the source code public and post here a link as soon as I get home (hopefully I won't forget). The neon effect itself is quite easy to achieve. You just want to enable HDR on you camera(s), put in some post processing bloom (we were using Unity Post Processing stack v2) and give things you want to bloom colors > 1 (actually they might even be smaller then 1 but then you need to set lower treshold for the bloom and make everything less bright otherwise everything would glow).

@bificommander I have just realised we are using 2 or 3 paid plugins (mainly editor extensions) from asset store which I cannot just make public. I will try to strip these plugins off and publish the source code without them.

Hello from the other Laser tank team!

Your game is definitely the better of the two fairly similar ideas!

Really like the variety of things to sacrifice (we had trouble thinking of more than pure keyboard sacrifices)

@bificommander So I have removed all paid plugins (all of them were editor extensions) and replaced paid version of DoTween with free version which should not affect funcionality at all. Please note that you have to use Unity 2018.3.x as we were using nested prefabs. https://gitlab.com/wolar-games/ld43-public let us know if you have any questions.

@wolar: Thanks a lot for the extra effort. I'm going to have a look at it, and hopefully I'll be able to implement something like it in future (jam) games.

Where should I start?! This game is incredible and definitely the best I've seen so far!! There isn't anything in the game that I disliked. These are the games I aspire to make over years and yet you've made this in under 3 days! Congratulations, your game is awesome!

Hey I have played your game and I love the idea a lot. Making decisions in this is one of the fact which makes the game more fun. This game has lots of potential and can do much better if structured properly. Overall, I like the game and GOod job!.

@henry-denny Hey, thank you for your nice feedback! I liked your game as well, with little more polish it would be really great entry and it's still pretty good for one person :)
@axixx Thank you for rating. I only have macOS so I cannot rate your game but I will let rest of our team know to rate it :)

Solid game! Creative implementation of the theme, great graphics, and really smooth controls. However, the only bug I found was that the 'Hello' tank could push you out of the map. Other than that, well done!

Loved the game and the idea with sacrifices, somewhat reminded me of Killing Room for some reason.
I wish the guns would feel stronger though, with screenshake and all that stuff :)

the diversity and number of sacrifices I could make was surprisingly great! I barely made it and it was fun, the hello warriors (the ones that pushed the player around) were rage-inducing at first meeting and I loved it!
