Health Risk by Raziyya

[raw]
made by Raziyya for LD 44 (COMPO)

How much life will you risk to upgrade your ship?

Collect parts from defeated enemies to gain health. Spend as much health as you dare on upgrades.

Mouse to rotate, left click to shoot, space to engage thruster.

Bug fix: Off by one error meant you could not buy an item when you had enough health

I couldn't buy stuff that cost 3 life while having 4 life. Not sure if a bug. Core mechanics are fun :)

@raziyya It works now  But you have to have enough life before the UI pops up. If you collect the life after, it doesn't count.

Mechanics are simple but efficient! Maybe you could increase the drop rate of health from defeated enemies ? I had some waves with no drop at all.

Overall, a solid, well polished entry. Though I think you couldve spiced it up a lot with screen shakes and other visual effects.

@shard @sode Apologies for that. Thanks for taking the time to play though.

@sebastien-bourgeois I agree. I didn't end up leaving enough time to play test. I would also bring the cost of the upgrades down. People don't have enough time to grind for them and the games far less interesting without them. Thanks for the feedback.

simple space shooter not much to say about it. I don't mean anything bad by simple by the way i think it is a good thing to make something you are happy with and can finish in the game and polish it. Well done

Not bad, but not enough life is collected at the beginning, which may make upgrading cheaper.

Nice retro easthetic. A bit Vectrix-like. Sound effects fit with that. I see that you wanted more time to tweak the difficulty. That would have helped I think (I thought it was hard to gert upgrades) but you still have a fairly nice game. I wanted more tweak time too, but my game is no way near as playable as yours.
So well done.
For me I would like the possibility of playing with mouse only, where one button is shoot and one is thrust, but not all mice have two buttons (and I'm not sure you can use two buttons in HTML5 games?).

One thing I noticed, it might be coincedence, but I had the idea the game got more difficult every time I played. The first time I played, I only had blue guys in wave one. Then green guys started to appear after that yellow, then red. After a while you could start and immediately have reds greens and yellows surround you. Maybe there is no complete rest of variables in the game?

@goerp Yeah, right clicking for thrust would have been good. But like you say, not sure how that would work for html.

The only difficulty change I had was to increase the number of enemies as the game went on. The enemy types just had a static probability of being spawned. On average, each wave should be made up of the same proportions of enemy types. I will check but sounds like you just got unlucky!! :P
