Asteroids, but with a twist - power ups cost money, and without money, you are vulnerable to being smashed. Do you take a powerup, gaining increased ability, or keep the dosh to be able to take an extra hit?

Made with Unity. Audio was done in Ableton, using a Roland System-8 for everything but drums.

*I've noticed some discrepancies in the WebGL version, but i'm leaving it up for accessibility. For best performance, please use the Windows version, or compare your experience with the Youtube playthrough.

I was brought in on the vector-graphic aesthetic, and the music was very nice. Definitely liked the upgrade system, it makes a nice addition to the asteroids style game.

I did find turning to be a bit slow, and I wasn't able to find an upgrade that could improve the turn speed. I'd also think it would have been better for the asteroids to break apart when shot like in the original game as opposed to losing sides on each shot.

Really nice job! Retro graphics look great and the music and sound effects are amazing. The gameplay is challenging and fun, though I have to agree with @gamepopper about the turn speed.

Overall really fun game.

I noticed that when you have 4 shields and pick up another shield powerup, it has no effect. Maybe disable spawning of shield powerups so that the player cant accidentally waste money on them.

A nice shooter game, although the theme wasn't very obvious to me until I read the description. Not a big issue, though, because of course I should read the description before playing, heh.

The music is what I liked the most of this game, also the effect when hitting big targets and turning them to dust. I have fun playing it but never understand the little dots inside the ship. Congratulations!

Kinda makes me question my ability to handle velocity, but that was fun none the less. Great game !

Control is not very responsive, but I learned. Simple game, but enjoyable. Cool colors :)

Cool game ! I like this games type, your music coupled with nice sound effects brings something more. Indeed the spacecraft is a bit slow. Thanks !

Looks like you were preparing for the potential theme 'classic game with a twist'. Very calming. I did like the sudden changes in pace. It started getting hectic as soon as I started thinking if it was gonna

I'm not a big asteroids man, but darn is this game entertaining! The tight controls, the old-school graphics and great sound design make for an unforgettable experience. I wish I could make such a simple and straightforward yet so entertaining game in the next compo. Great job!

All that needs to be said about this game already have been said. Solid entry with high replayability potential. Nice work dude, with some extra content you could release this game on the market. Good luck with future projects.

I didn't realize until watching the YT video that the little pellets were health, but I'm just dense. Cool game

Funny entry! I like the fact that it seems you can't break the game, like spamming the fire key while rotating, or just fire in a straight line to destroy all incoming asteroids. Great feeling, nice music, cool art, good job!

I really like the way that the asteroid destruction was made. Really cool game

Really nice overall aesthetic; I think the turn speed was probably fine, as standing still and spinning on the spot spamming lasers in a death blossom while powerups come to you is a pretty effective tactic

as soon as i got familiarized with the controls, the game was so fun. great music and visuals, and an impressive job for a jam game.

Solid controls, simple yet effective graphics, and the music is pretty good as well! My only qualm is that when accelerating, the camera eventually pans past the player character, and I can no longer see my ship. Other than that, great work!

Nice music - almost relaxing! I really like the simple twist you've given to Asteroids. I also like how the polygons break down line by line, though it might have been nice to see some gibs/lines/pieces fly off of them when hit and not just when they die.

I love how the asteroids' HP are communicated through the number of vertices! Great idea.

I don't think the gif at the top does the graphics justice, feels much more smooth fluid and polished.

I wish I could hold to fire, though. But that might just be a personal preference.

Audio is great. The game over sound fits in really well with the music. Nice job :)

HAha i like this, this looks similar to my previous LD game (https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/42/spaced-out). Your's feels more tight and more arcade-ish. Great job with the look and feel of the game!

Fun to play. For longer play session it would to help yo have some life pellets popping from time to time.

The music is really good as well.

Nice entry!

I like the concept, my only 2 suggestions would be it would be a bit easier to get into the groove if your ship pulled in the coins from a small radius around it, and if it could spin faster. I really appreciated the camera pulling back as you speed up.

Great game!!! Really liked the soundtrack! I took a while to understand that I needed this little squares to get items, it didn't harm the experience because after the first play I wanted to play again with this new knowledge. Then I learned that when I get hit I lose the squares, so I wanted to try again knowing that hahaha

Loved the mood and the general style of the game! Liked the gameplay as well, had lots of fun with the upgrade system. I am just kinda of a noob so I can't get past the pink asteroids part xD. Great job

What a delightful game! The 'tutorial' section was excellently woven into the start of the level -- I really liked how you kept all of that UI within the world as much as possible. Turning, moving and firing all at once was a little awkward on the keyboard -- is it possible?

The music was nice and punchy and immediately caught my attention. Agree wholeheartedly with @johanhelsing regarding the asteroids's health. Great work!

Terrific game! All the graphics, animations, sound effects, camera work felt super polished! It was too hard for me though, I barely got to the point where those pink asteroids started showing up and I played at least 10 times. Very well done!

Really dig the audio and the space ship control is nice too - though I would recommend making the ship turn a touch faster. Also, I didn't notice the indicator about how much health my ship had left so maybe some kind of health meter might be beneficial. Great job!
