Idle Idol by Daniel Moreno

Idle Idol is a clicker (sort-of) and resource management game about a goddess and her followers. Building temples or destroying obstacles will cost you some followers, but the temples will generate more over time. Manage your limited space around the statue to place temples.
The goddess needs followers to live. Try to maintain a proper number of them, or you'll lose!
PLAY IT HERE (BROWSER): https://daz.itch.io/idle-idol
There's also a Windows version to download on the bottom of that page. If the game runs slow on your browser, try the desktop version, please!
Controls (Mouse):
- Left Click: Select/Build/Destroy
- Right Click: Cancel build (if in Build mode)
PD: Whoa! I'm super overwhelmed and happy by all the positive feedback on this game, thank you everyone for playing my game and giving feedback! I'm reading all the comments, I'm just bad at replying.

With that out of the way, I was just about to make a screenshot of my "industrialization" (all available spots replaced by buildings) and place the first diamond hut when this happened:

God dammit :sob:
The cultist/temple theme is pretty smart, and the artwork is just amazing.
Destroying the resource-generator to make space for more resource generator was a new twist as well, at least for me. Loved playing the game. Really well polished too, just adorable <3
The graphics, music and interactions were very well polished and worked together well.
The theme was very well adhered to.
It was very fun and satisfying to see all the buildings do their thing and create more dudes.
It was overall very satisfying to see all those little dudes running around the place, which is the only thing I didn't really liked, but can't really be fixed easily either. This was that a big part of the satisfaction from the game was seeing all the little guys run around, but as you build more buildings, you stop seeing them.
All in all a great game, and almost unbelievable that it was made in 2 days, Good job!
That said, I felt it would be more interesting if there were two or three more variables to play with, like money, wood or some other resource. Just gradually updating stuff along a single axis starts feeling, I don't know, mechanical.

I was in the process of replacing the entire island with diamond buildings and could barely place them fast enough by the end. I do want to see a full island though...
Also btw there was a minor bug, I think I beat the game while placing a building and when I clicked Play Again it placed the building in the new game even though I hadn't unlocked it and couldn't afford it:

Was well on my way to place blue temples EVERYWHERE when I suddenly won. Dammit, would've loved to fill the map with the blue temple :D

i liked the element of sacrificing the natural world around you to make room for your cult :)
Sadly I'm not a big fan of clicker games.
The music and sounds are great, the graphics are wonderful. I just love it.
I played all the way to 1000 cultists.

I did not see the time passing while I was playing, I like idle games

Great entry.. too much addictive :)
Perhaps you could add more diversity in music :)
I wish my jam games were this polished.
The only problem I had is that the lose condition wasn't prefectly clear for me at first.

The graphics and audio are really awesome too, if the click sound on the goddess was a bit lower it would be just perfect!
Here, take this, you deserve it! ๐
this was my score by the way, I was trying to make the entire field with blue buildings, but the game just ended... :(
you could create something that shows the victory condition, not just "PAH you won", when the player doesn't really knows how to.
for example, the winning condition I thought I had to complete was making the entire field with the ultimate building (The blue ones). And I was almost filing up the entire field with it (Was already something like 50% blue already)

But this game was really well made. Good graphics, no bugs, and really fun (even more on the endgame, when you need to be quicker)

Just wish I didn't had to click every time on the building I want to build to make it quicker :)
Solid entry !
We've been playing around with the thought of an idle game where humans are the currency as well, but didn't really work out for us
The game is pretty fun and mostly perfect. One of my only complaints is the music, whichs loop is a bit too short for my taste for being in an idle game, which is supposed to be spend a lot of time with. And my other complain is the balancing of the buildings. Some steps too the next building are just too short to even make use of one and I don't understand why you should even use the fifth building at all, because it's so big
But these are just small things and don't interrupt the experience at all :D
PS! I might have had a bug - after winning and clicking replay I started with one of the blue buildings left behind and the cultist count was -290/10 :)
I loved this game. It's like a political criticism. You have to destroy trees to build room for cultists.
All in all: It's a super lovely game and I really enjoyed playing it!
Really awesome entry. Thanks for making this!
Feels very polished!
Did not see the point in 180 and 100 buildings, since they are too damn big for what they bring.
Otherwise, congrats on a well done entry!
I was playing the HTML version btw.
I'm really glad you like the game! I'm gonna try to answer some things that you've telling me these days about the game:
1. Yup, I know the music can be repetitive, I'm not a musician myself and I know barely anything about music making, but I tried my best.
2. There is a bug if you try to play again and you've selected a temple to build. I'll try to fix it on a post-jam version.
3. Losing having a lot of cultists is not a bug, it is intended. You've to keep building temples to make room for everyone.
4. Not all the buildings gives you the same amount of cultists per second. That's the big difference between the fourth and fifth temple, even though they give you the same room.
I really like those screenshots of you finishing the game! hah :D
I've given clicker games a hard time in these kind of jams, because of how easy I think they are to make. I just feel like they're the go-to game for when you're out of ideas for mechanics. BUT this game really knocks it out of the park and probably will make me rethink what I believed in about clickers before I played it.
I think it's an absolute Genius move how you made it so that the player can't just leave the game running in the background. This is in fact not an idle game at all, since you lose if you don't keep sacrificing cultists. I have to give 5 stars on this one, really!
Good work!
Some minor remarks :
- Would have loved some keyboard shortcuts for the buildings.
- Maybe bind the destroy building to right click, I missclicked more than 10 times during the entire gameplay, this is not a big issue but kinda annoying.
Also I hate you for making such addictive game, thought I would spent 10 minutes on this one, played for 45 minutes... Loved it
Good job !
5/5
I really enjoy this game, that's really a polished one with all the arts done (graphics + sounds) I will probably play one ore more games in the near future !
Congrats, very well done !
perfect snowball, the theme is greatly used here, you deserve your ratings GG

This was a super addictive game even without having much in the way of mechanics, so for achieving that in 48 hours: well done! That fact that you did it while adhering to the theme, having a great chill backing track, and really nice simple graphics that added to the aesthetic makes it even more impressive. This is an awesome game! I'd love to see this idea taken and enhanced by adding more challenge, or more things to do besides just building things.
Congratulations for the game.
I also make a game. If you can, please try it, rate it and comment.

Wow! I really enjoyed your game! It's quite addictive, haha!
The art and the music create a great atmosphere. The only thing I thought about that would make the experience better is to not have to select again the building you want to place. Hotkeys would have been cool too.
Otherwise, awesome game, thank you!
Impressive game! I'm not usually a fan of idle games, but in this case the available room and cultist management has you constantly making decisions and planning, which coupled to the usual clicker mechanic keeps you you hooked for quite a while. It is a really direct and clever take on the theme, and the level of polish is amazing both in visuals and sound, moreso considering it's a compo entry.
I didn't even realise I could destroy the trees at the beginning! (interestingly enough, another of my favourite entries has you planting trees and trying to resist mass deforestation).
Amazing job, congrats!!
Very pretty game.

Very nicely done. Audio/art/and mechanics all fit very nicely together.
