“Life slashes its way between the streets full of trash, drugs and prostitution in Uman (Neomexico). Under the bright neons, cybermaya bands like yours defend their culture and keep their enemies at bay thanks to a mixture of strategic intelligence, physical strength and technology management. However, the decimated forces of your clan succumb to the attacks of the Horizon corporation, which pretends to take over your neighborhoods and enslave your people to work in their offices. Only you, as part of a new generation of Warriors, can stand up to Horizon’s aggression.”

“According to the rite, your initiation requires overcoming ten trials in the Temple of Chac Bolay. As soon as you cross the threshold, you discover a dark and oppressive environment in which the natural laws of life and death are suspended, and only governs the will of this living God of the underworld. Chac Bolay values the SACRIFICE, and will honor with reincarnation anyone who loses all trace of life or sanity in their training. The belongings of the applicant will also be respected if he advances until the test room in which he was defeated. The entrance door disappears behind you. Now the only possible way out is upfront.”

Post Ludum Fixes

Monday responsabilities + final sprint led to practically untested build, some basic fixes needed to be made! ( We recommend use post-ludum build, fixes were fast, but we just didnt have the time! )

  • Black screen could be seen-through in borders ( ups.. )
  • Trap<->Sound logic a bit fucked up ( I swear that "else" was in place! )
  • Death sounds are now played when they should
  • Some lighting bugs that fixed re-opening the editor (that was opened for 2 days in a row... ^^)
  • Stil are some major lighting differences between editor & build, will we ever find out why?

Our major problem is still player health / sanity feedback ( we think ), too much things we wanted to try but didnt know how to do ( so many things we learned in the process  )

Ok just downloaded and played this game, and good things first it looks really really nice - a dark oppressive atmosphere with some reflective surfaces and interesting 3d environment as well as very good use of typography to further emphasis the Mayan feeling, in the intro. However the gameplay let me a bit stumped, I clicked on two doors in the first room and then saw some smoke and then a black screen then nothing more, and this is as far as I can get after trying the first level a few times, so I am a little confused as to what I am supposed to do next. The sound FX are also worth mentioning they are creepy and suitably Mayan. Visually it blends the new and the old in an interesting way and you can see how it could be a great game if there is more time to develop the gameplay.

Ok so I replayed it and it does get more interesting when you have access to the inventory, going further through the game also showed how important sound design is to the game and it does create a spooky atmosphere with all the reverb noise etc

Good atmosphere, but the loading screen was way too long.

I'll be straightforward. I didn't really like it. The load time between rooms was real long, since all of the rooms look the same, I thought I was in the same room at first. The "sanity" effect making things blurry just hurt my eyes. The setting was an interesting concept in writing, but this one room temple didn't sell it.

@ilseroth It's not loading time, there are some sounds playing that represent the actions.

I get that, and for the first room or so I was like, ok. But after a few rooms it just got repetitive and boring. If I was given some sort of change in environment or some sort of action to perform besides just choosing a door based on my inventory, then I might've enjoyed it more, but that's the whole game.

Nice atmosphere, however i did not really understand why I lost to be honest x) Especially I did not understand the purpose of the inventory.
Actually I think it is not my kind of game but interesting concept !

@ilseroth yes, thats true, we thought of that and have in mind that you could click when the sound is playing to skip it, but there was not enough time to implement it, maybe in a future version... However you could view as an oportunity to listen to the sounds that were made also with hard work. And also, surely you can make an effort and find something you like, if not, well then I'm sorry you played it. Anyway, thanks for yout honesty.

Things I liked:

* The sound design in this game is top notch. Seriously, well done.
* This game has a mood it was going for, and it absolutely nails it.

Things that could be improved:

* I have no idea what the hell I'm doing. I understand that this might be what you're going for, but I seriously have no idea how to progress.

Overall: 3.5

The idea is interesting and a bit weird. The sound effects after opening the doors is super cool, but also a bit confusing. Over a super interesting LD game. Well done.

I'm afraid I'm going to have to agree with the majority here and say I have no idea what I'm doing, how I'm supposed to be doing it, or if I'm even progressing. Am I supposed to be passing through doors that I have the equipment to pass through? Am I supposed to be hanging onto them? Am I reincarnating in the same room each time or am I passing onto the next one?

I also didn't like how Unity was forced into fullscreen mode, since my computer was barely powerful enough to render it - I would have liked to play it at a smaller resolution but a higher frame rate.

On the plus side, I think the sound effects and the music were really well done.

Excellent audio design and mood, but maybe guiding the player a bit in the beginning would have released the game's potential. All in all, well done!
