In Roll The Waves by Eoku

[raw]
made by Eoku for LD 42 (JAM)

screenshot1.png

A puzzle game where you play as a snake who must collect a key to open a door, but in such a way as to not get caught by the waves rolling in. Every single asset used in this game is original and made from scratch. That even includes things like font and synthesizer presets. I went ultra hardcore. XD!

IMPORTANT: I do have a WebGL version of the game up on Itch, but the audio is glitched out for some reason (at least for me using Chrome), so I would keep that in mind if you choose to play that version.

You might want to put all your folder into a zip folder and upload that zip file.

Nevertheless, this game is a real gem! I thought it was super easy but after a few levels, not so much. Distinctive artstyle that fits the theme perfectly. Really great. A real gem and so polished! Congrats

I was hoping it would keep going and give me more challenges! The atmosphere it has is really good. It might make for more interesting puzzles if the flooding was more like a gradual expansion along the shore instead of a "curtain" covering the map, or if the snake had others tasks to do, like pushing blocks or eating apples.

Can't find the WebGL version unfortunately (audio problems be damned!).

A superb take on both the theme and the snake genre !

Pros :
- Well designed puzzles, and crystal-clear controls
- Soothing pixel-art visuals and audio
- Great difficulty curve (the way all the mechanics are presented through successive puzzles is amazing)

Cons :
- Wish there was more !
- Sometimes the wall do not seem to get close in a linear way

Seriously... the only thing I dislike about this game is that there isn't more of it! I hope you continue work on it past the jam. I would totally buy this game on mobile to just chill with.

@echo-team I think I must have forgotten to publish it. I'm new to Itch. Hold on a second.

Ok. The Itch.io link should work now. Sorry 'bout that. XD

I think the reason why you don't have many comments or reviews is because there's no web version, I see you have an itch.io page but the music is glitched =/

Really nice, the art goes well with the music, and the mechanics are interesting. I wish there was more levels to play but it's good to focus on the quality more than the quantity; but please note that if you make a post-jam release I'd willingly play it!
(Oh and I didn't encounter any glitch on the web version, for the record I use Firefox 61.0.1 on Linux)

I'm using Chrome on Windows ans got no problem at all with the web version's audio.
I enjoyed this little experience. It says a lot that I was disappointed there weren't more levels! Nice overall feeling, the audio and the sounds go well with the ambiance. The mechanic could lead to interesting puzzles later down the line with other mechanic introduced, like portals or motion in pseudo 3D (cf Snake Pass).

I wish the walls would close in on a 1 to 1 basis, so that it would be more clear to the player when they will get squished. Other than that, short and sweet little game, I loved it and wish you made more levels. Congratulations

Game is beautiful in every way, but I literally finished it in 47 seconds.

Really clever use of the theme of the jam to add a level of complexity to the puzzles. They where so much fun to play with. I think a bit more levels would have been nice, I blaze through them pretty quickly.

But great job overall.
