Fishy Rescue by Nelson William

[raw]
made by Nelson William for LD 43 (JAM)

In year 20XX, the Earth was conquered by alien fish that stole all human weaponry. Most humans are now trapped in their cities protected by force field domes. But many are still in the wild looking for rescue. You must use your zeppelin to rescue as many people as you can and bring them to the cities! But since you don't have many weapons, you may have to use some people as projectile... Good luck!

Controls

Those are also explained in-game, so you can ignore this.

  • Move your zeppelin with WASD or arrow keys.
  • Approach humans to rescue them. The zeppelin becomes heavier with more people aboard.
  • Press the left mouse button sacrifice a human by throwing them at obstacles/enemies. Aim with the mouse.
  • You can throw people at cities to get a monetary reward. Cities are also are checkpoints.
  • If you're ever stuck, press R to restart (from the start or the latest checkpoint).
  • Press Space to pause the game and buy upgrades (or instant repairs) with your money.

Beware of the evil fish people! Or rather beware of the evil zeppelin that hates fish people so much that it must sacrifices ordinary people in order to defeat them. This is really fun and really captures the theme well in a hilarious way.

Oh my, this was way more fun than I'd figured at first. Great work on the effects when launching a person (that is a weird sentence out of context). Good work with the balance, both figuratively and literally in the case of the weight of the airship based on number of people carried. Really good job!

This is a great entry for this theme! I tried my best not to sacrifice anyone and ended up with a score of 338 (54 rescued at 22 sacrificed, I think). It's weird to play a "platformer" where you fly through it. Game is clean, and surprisingly bug-free for being done in a weekend.

The music got a bit repetitive, but the art and comedy of the game more than made up for it. Great game.
