All Turd Beast by SamH

[raw]
made by SamH for LD35 (COMPO)
=== BEHOLD, MORTALS ===

A mighty beast goes on a journey to find its true self.

=== AS THE PROPHECY STATED, IN THE END EVERYTHING WILL BE REVEALED ===

About the game
- play using a gamepad, or the A/D/Space/J/K/L keys.
- I’m quite satisfied with the game mechanics, and may try to do a polished game out of it.
- animations aren’t very nice, most cycles would benefit from several extra frames
- my initial goal was to make a game that could be played by a casual player, and to allow for fast-paced runs, jumps, dashes etc. for those in need for more challenging mechanics
- no music or sound, sorry.
- if you find yourself asking “is this the end?”, yes, it’s the end.

Some technical notes
- written in C++ and OpenGL
- runs on Linux and Windows
- cross-compiled to JavaScript / WebGL without changing a line of code

I was asked to write #LDJAM here.

Great little platformer. So many times, I thought it was broken. Nope- just my skill level. Like MegaMan in that way. Great job!

Good use of the theme. The ending is a bit disturbing.

Nice pixel graphics and mechanics! I didn't read the description until the end, so when I wondered "is this the end" I actually kept trying figuring out for a while how to go on. XD

I loved the art style that you went with. Less is more and you did a great job.

Loved this entry, it all comes together being executed fairly well; graphics, game play, the theme.. You can really see the design philosophy come to life (though I'm not entirely sure that's a good thing.) great game!

Art style is so great, and a uh...crazy ending. Stage too short a little bit pity.

Haha, nice! Quite a varied flushed out set of mechanics, had a lot more going on than I expected. I liked how each new mechanic took a bit of thinking to figure out, and then became super useful!

A few sound effects would have been a great addition, especially for the ending :P Good work!

Hi, nice game ! We're realizing a video with several games of the Ludum Dare #35.
Can you add your game on indiexpo.net ? (it's free)
So we can include also your game in the video ;)
p.s. write #LDJAM in the game's description

Hillarious -_-

I liked the look and even the animations, though I'm not sure that I liked having my view restricted so much. The elephant in particular had some fun little touches. Not so sure about the mouse since it is effectively "press x to progress". the bird was an interesting idea, but I felt weird playing a bird that couldn't actually fly.

However jumps are managed, I found that I had to press the button a bit earlier than when I actually wanted to jump.
