STORY

"A young lad during his adventures accidentally encounters vicious Shadowbeast. Trapped in a cursed cave he must find his way out. You must hurry as time flows differently in this cursed place."

ABOUT

Aging Soul is a platformer with aging mechanic, trying to pay homage visually to late Gameboy Advance games. You can make yourself older or younger at your will, though the second option comes with a cost of some your life time left. Use different age forms to achieve different goals. For example the toddler can't run or jump, but can squeeze through narrow corridors while playing as a kid allows you to move faster and jump higher. Sadly the old man form only works as a warning you are closer to running out of time, as we run out of time while making this game :P. He is though immune to something, we will let you to figure it out.

CONTROLS

  • Movement: Arrow Keys
  • Jump: X key
  • Get older: A key
  • Get younger: S key
  • Mute/unmute: M key
  • To skip cutscene: X key

This is one of the best looking games I've played this LD. Nice work!

This is the first one I tried this LD, and it's great. If this will be the level of the entries, the competition will be harder than ever.

Really clever gameplay but a little too punishing for messing up. Great graphics and atmosphere, and music as well. Great job!

Solid art, and a good use of the theme, though I wasn't sure what to use the old man form for?

The jumps are a bit to old school to my taste (hard to understand where the hit box end) but your gameplay mechanics are really cool and innovative! The mood and graphics are very solid too, well done!

Thank you everyone! It is our first entry to LD and game jam ever, and we got a little to ambitious and as you may noticed run out of time. So there is no tutorial sadly, and no reset button, and we weren't sure if adding it past the time of jam wouldn't be against the rules. To past the first image you need to press the jump key button.

Took a little to figure out I had to hit X to scroll through the images. The concept was pretty cool. The art is awesome. The movement felt a little stiff, but other than that, good work!

@alphazeba Aparently my teammate updated the game info but for some reason (maybe overload servers) it didn't show up. Anyway you need to press X button to skip to the next panel.

OMG this is amazing!! I came here from @bigwhiteshogun 's wonderful comment in my game, but now I'm envious. Seriously, I really liked it. The art, the mechanic idea, and the music, were top notch for me.

@bigwhiteshogun Thank you! This is incredibly good. One of those games where really all I'd like is more levels lol. One minor qualm is that you "die" earlier than expected since going back in time takes the same lives as dying does. My first run through i was stuck in a cavern with 0 hourglasses in the kid. It was until my 3rd time reloading the page I realized the game would restart once you reached the bones age. I think this system is fine, but maybe help the player figure out they are supposed to suicide to restart. It initially felt like a "reset" button was missing. Very good entry though. Enjoyed it all.

This could really benefit from some checkpoints, or maybe something to prevent accidentally pressing S and permanently wasting a finite resource. Apart from that though, I like this one. The graphics are clean, the mechanics have a lot of potential (do wish the old man had any use though), and it's just a good, well-rounded game in general.

Really solid idea. Art, sound controls and all that was great. I would've liked a somewhat higher difficulty, like maybe more puzzles? Also, just wanted more levels haha. Great submission, well done.

Artstyle very good. The gameplay with switching between all different ages is really fun. Those characters are really really cute! Audio ok. Maybe I just missing the connection with the theme. Good entry!
