Cashteroids by RumSquawks

[raw]
made by RumSquawks for LD 44 (JAM)

Made over the weekend of Ludum Dare 44! Sell your ship’s hull for more upgrades and weapons! Learn how to balance your max health as well as the number of upgrades on your ship. As stages get more challenging, does it benefit you to have a decked-out arsenal, or would it be better to instead have the thiccest hull in the galaxy? Either decision you make, our sleazy alien shopkeep is more than happy to cut you a deal.

This is some hot garbage, but folks, it's got rough-around-the-edges charm.

L-Ctrl : Fire / Select W: Forward Thrust S: Reverse Thrust A/D: Rotate Ship

Wow, the style is really annoying, but it fits the topic, well done!

The graphics are cool! The intro was a little long and waiting for text to print is never fun. Very unique style, though. Nice take on the theme too.

A bit lenghty intro, some bugs here and there. Sometimes you spawned right into an asteroid (and die).
Other than that it's quite alright

Nice addition to good ol' Asteroids. Not that difficult, plenty of particles. Can see a potential plot, would like to see it fully played out.

Creepy graphics! A bit more colour would be nice, to make things more eye catching :)

I could not play as the game stayed stuck at "your looking to buy?", wherever I clicked the same sentence was prompted. I did rate your art that I found sppoky but cool. I also like the intro but sometimes the texts were too long and I coulnd not read them until the end.

Hey all! Thank you for your constructive criticism and feedback. This is the first time we've ever done anything like this, so hearing from so many people is great and it really does help us out! It seems unanimous that the intro text is too long/not skipable; we totally agree, and since we're going to keep working on this after the jam, we'll definitely add in skippableness once scoring as over (though it's minor, I feel like adding the feature before play+rate is done with might influence scoring and go beyond LD rules). We have, however, made the following changes that should still be in complience with the jam: @lagrume-masque , we've gone in and made it so you cannot get stuck in the store text (thanks for catching this bug! :^) ; @calzep , the executable should run in linux as well as mac and windows since its a Unity build, though, we see that we didn't initially mark it as such on itch.io. This is changed now and we encourage you to give the game a shot if you're still interested!

Again, thank you all for your feedback! It's all very encouraging and helpful! :^)

I had to go back and figure out what the shoot button was after losing the first playthrough to not knowing controls. After that it was easy because all I did was hold down shoot and spin in place. Some ideas:

1. Give me some destinations to move to(e.g. collectables), and then spawn new waves on a timer so that I get intercepted.
2. Give the enemies some movement patterns other than "berserker run at me".

The story has plenty of writing(good effort) but the writing feels flat(effort wasted), because each scene plays linearly and is focused on concrete justifications(business language) and not a feeling of anticipation for "what will happen after that, and why"(storytelling), like something that will be revealed and how additional themes in the work might interact with the main "your life is currency" one. When the twist comes, it's surprising but doesn't communicate a lot since we never build much of an investment in the characters or world.

As already mentioned, the intro is quite long, and I had some troubles to read some texts before they changed.

Also, I think it would be great to have a restart button. (Or did I miss it?)

Other than that I really like your game.

Definitely oozing charm. It was a little hard to control, but was fun once I got the hang of it.
