Genre:

Platformer/Puzzle

Description:

Discover the secrets of a recently destroyed civilization with Dunwo, the freelancing archaeologist. Aiming to save the extinct locals and maybe earn a coin or two in the process, our brave hero with his trusty backpack and a teleport sphere starts his greatest journey to date. However, being the first one to the recent explosion epicenter, Dunwo struggles with getting everything he finds packed into the backpack – too many interesting things just lying around. Some sacrifices will be nigh unavoidable, and only you can help him decide what's worthy of becoming a part of the local race's Legacy.

Here's a map of the world Dunwo is about to explore: Screenshot_5.png

Controls:

  • A/D or Left/Right – Moving left/right
  • W or Up or Space – Jumping
  • E or Z or L – Shooting the sphere/teleporting to that sphere on second press
  • Q or X – Calling the sphere back without teleporting to it
  • I – Opening inventory
  • Arrows/Enter – Navigating the menus
  • Escape – Pausing (in-game)

Hotfix (14.08):

  • Fixed a bug that made finishing the game impossible while having zero inventory slots left.
  • Fixed a bug with one of the decorations' layers being in the wrong place.
  • Added L as an alternative button to shoot the teleport sphere due to several requests.

Version 1.1 (21.08):

  • Fixed the bug with an item description panel not disappearing.
  • Fixed ghosts' physics to avoid some rare bugs.
  • Fixed dialogue text typos.
  • Fixed basketball's description.
  • Added visual effect to being damaged state (screen frame) to make it easier to notice.
  • Added a slight delay between the moment the teleport sphere is thrown and the moment the character can teleport to it.
  • Added an app icon.
  • Made inventory slot addition/loss slightly easier to notice.
  • Made tutorial dialogues harder to accidentally skip.
  • Tweaked a few thorns hitboxes.
  • Tweaked a few texts' colors to make those more readable.
  • Changed thorns' outline glow color to red.
  • On "choose which item to throw away" prompt the item initially selected is now the one you've just picked up, not the one from the first slot.
  • Mouse cursor now gets hidden in fullscreen mode.

I can't imagine how you made this game in just 72 hours, did you sleep at all?
It's fantastic. The graphics are nice, the sound is perfect and the idea is so well executed.
Had a lot of fun, thank you for your submission!!

Very beautifull graphics, beautifull music (a little repetitive force). it's a very cool platformer with teleportation capacity, bumper etc, it's a pleasure to explore and find new items with story. there are small problems we can really cheat with the teleportation against a wall to propel very high, I do not know if it's wanted but by spamming the key we get there. With varied environments and a story better told it can make an excellent game! Awesome, very good job!

Wow impressive art and audio! I really enjoyed watching and listening to your game. I think you put in quite some nice mechanics and managed to fit im some nice puzzles to explore using those mechanics. Yea sometimes it may be abused a little or there are slight bugs but overall I didn't really notice them or at least the styling of your game made me focus on that more. Great work, I really enjoyed it.

Beautiful game, nothing much to say appart from the fact that it's a pity that we can't read the items descriptions anymore when we ran out of space

The best game i've played so far, gratz !

Thanks, everyone! We're really grateful for the feedback and glad you enjoyed our game. :)

@plukers, we slept for 6-8 hours between day 1 and day 2, then for 2-3 hours between days 2 and 3, haha. Overscoped a bit with the world size, had to cut some sleep time to implement most of what we had planned.

@robowarrior1982, yeah, that's not intended, just a side-effect to the way the physics work here. It'll be fixed in future builds, but I couldn't fix it (re-structure some core logic) fast enough to fit into the initial version time constraints.

@olivier-millochau, I guess you have played the pre-hotfix version, there you can't read them and finish the game unless you find an additional bag item; after the hotfix, you can't go down below one inventory slot, so you'll always be able to read the descriptions, plus the end-game screen has them all listed, even for the items you have never found.

I really liked the world here and think it ties in with the theme really nicely. I think the character from a gameplay/feedback perspective could have done with more work, okay it flashed but I didn't really know when I was getting hurt and the collision seemed quite off. The teleport ball was okay but I think the camera shouldn't have snapped to the new location but rather smoothly (but still quickly) moved to the character. The level was well built and looked nice. I did finish it but I kind of got bored quickly :/

You can teleport up walls by jumping and teleporting constantly, is this intended?

Alluring little game! Lot's of cool puzzle ideas with the teleporting. Maybe add some extra animation and sound effects to award the player for his actions. But the graphics and level designs are already there :)

I really enjoyed playing this! Great art and overall mood; Nice subtle storytelling through the item descriptions; Varied platforming challenges that were not too easy but didn't turn frustrating either. Good job all around, thanks for making this! :)

If I was told this was made in a few months, I would have been impressed, but you are telling me 3 days! I am blown away. Amazing game play, and absolutely beautiful graphics and audio.
I would not be surprised if I see this game popping up on steam etc very soon.

Amazing submission for 3 days work! I can't rate this game highly enough. The ONLY issue I have with it, is that the amazing artwork of the character and items does not match the style of the platforms and enemies! Great job.

Great job! I liked the graphics and how you pay attention to the graphic details. Nonetheless, when I W was playing I had a bug with this collected item which refused to disappear of the screen, even if I collected other items. ![Sans titre-1.jpg](///raw/9d2/a1/z/19b68.jpg) Thanks for this lovely game! @alex-brull, sorry to hear about the bug! It's the first time we're seeing it, so if you have any additional details/assumptions on how it happened we'd really appreciate it; will look into it either way, of course.

Edit: never mind, found and fixed it; thanks again for bringing it to our attention!

That's a really well designed and good looking game! Honestly, just add more content and get it on Steam! The controls feel very responsive, maybe only the jump right after teleportation feels odd a little. The puzzles are very fine. The whole concept of going through the ruins of Earth and seeing it from the eyes of an alien creature is a really cool concept. The item descriptions and music really build an amazing mood. Graphics are simply beautiful, really impressive for such a short time. Game feels really polished and is pretty long. In overall it's a really great game, good job!

Probably one of the most gorgeous games in the LD, but also the movement and platforming its incredibly well developed for a game in general, let alone one made in sub 72 hours. All kinds of amazing.

Beautiful game! The teleportation mechanic was really cool, and having your inventory space be health was interesting. I did find it hard sometimes to tell what things could cause damage and what couldn't.

Nice art and mood. I think the bug alex ran into was caused by collecting those two items at the same time that are next to each other. I had the same issue, but simply opening and closing the inventory made it go away for me (I see you made an edit saying it's fixed, so I assume the fix hasn't been uploaded, or there is still an issue). The jump feels pretty good overall. It's a bit cumbersome scrolling to the end of the item list to check if you should keep it or not when you don't have enough space to hold everything. Perhaps start on the new item rather than the first entry, or show the new item next to the item you're choosing to replace. It might be nice if the outline for the thorns and other damaging entities was red or something that looks a bit more dangerous, because while I understood they needed to be avoided, I could see others being confused by the fact that the outline and the colors of the switched/gates are very similar and thus think the switches and gates can hurt you as well. The movement and jump were fine, but the teleportation and cancellation buttons were a bit awkward to press. Forcing the player through an invisible wall at the beginning is a good indicator that there are secrets throughout the level to search for. Good job overall!

Absolutely beautiful game! :slight_smile:. I agree with @apples-mmmmmmmm about the thorns, sometimes I walked over them without noticing what was going on. I think a sound and visual effect when taking damage would be very helpful. Sound effects in general would add a lot to the game feeling more responsive and interactive too I think.

I found some of the puzzles slightly frustrating, especially the one where we have to race the teleport globe at the end, I had already lost my slots then so it wasn't that bad for me but if I had managed to keep more items up until then and then tried that puzzle I think I would be very frustrated as I would have lost everything trying to get through the gate. I think if the timing was a bit less tight and/or the obstacles were a bit easier to avoid on that one it would help. Also a minor thing, is I think I had a bug with pop ups. After losing slots and picking up new items I got a pop up for the item at the front of the list rather than the newest item.

All in all, I really enjoyed it, I thought the concept and puzzles were good and I thought the art, animation and atmosphere were superb! :smile:

You guys rock, this is your third Ludum as far as I can see, and all those entries are extremely beautiful! Running through the comments I see very constructive and accurate advises, can`t say I have much to add to it.

Though I feel needed to say that you are growing, it feels. I really wish you luck, and hope to see more from you in the future, keep it up!

Great entry,
Beautiful graphisms and mood, I liked all the detailed items,
The only problem is that it's way to hard ! Goog thing that their is no game over and that you can still play when you should have been dead, I collect 28 item to keep only one at the end, the most important, but I don't think it's possible to collect more...
Still, well done ! :)

Very nice graphics and audio! The puzzles were pretty fun- my only critique is that since the character can't die and we don't really know the purpose of keeping items, there isn't a whole lot of drive not to lose them.

This game is great. I like the mood it creates, and the platforming worked nicely with some good tricky stuff. My biggest frustration was that took so much damage in a few difficult spots that I lost all my items, despite collecting almost everything (28/30 items, 14/15 bags!). In particular, the part where you go up some air columns like this:

```
##########
#
# -->
#^ #####
#^ #
# ^#
# ^#
#^ #
#^ ######
# <- |
# ######
# #
#XXXX#
```

just seemed so random to me to get enough vertical speed, and I kept falling into the spikes. I lost my remaining few items on the very last puzzle. Generally, the brambles are too easy to touch. It would help if they were more distinguished from background, if there was more feedback when I touched them, and if the hitbox was shrunk a bit. I did like the idea that you needed to play perfectly to get everything, and the sense of permanent loss from hitting one of these.

Some bugs:
- Towards the end of the game it was showing me descriptions that clearly didn't match the item's drawing.
- There's a part where you have to use your warp bubble similar to the last puzzle to get two items that are right next to one another (one was a newspaper clipping for me; not sure if this is random). If you warp while the bubble is right on top of both of these, then you collect both in the same frame and the second dialog box never goes away. I had to reset.

Again, an overall really good game. :)

Thanks everyone, we appreciate your kind words and feedback a lot! We have a new build coming up with several fixes to some of the problems mentioned by you, so reading about your experiences is invaluable to identify as much problems as possible.

@tom7, you've actually identified the exact two places we're nerfing in the next update, removing the spikes from the three currents spot and making the thorns' hitboxes slightly smaller in the final race, so props for that. :P As for the descriptions not matching the items - it's not actually a bug, but a UI/UX issue that commonly causes that confusion. When you're picking a new item up while your inventory's full, the prompt for an item to throw away will open the inventory and focus the first item you have instead of the most recently taken one. Sadly I had more pressing and game-breaking issues during the last hours of the jam, so it stayed in the jam version; it's fixed in the next build though. Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback!

I don't know if I'm just bad at puzzles but there's a bit with a switch and an enemy floating back and forth, and if you try to teleport the orb disappears when it hits the enemy, and I want to like the game but I can't get past that part at all

Tbh at first I think this would mostly be a fantastic looking game with less substance only cuz other entries like this tend to be like that. You very much surprised me however. I thought you did a great job exploring all kinds of gameplay themes with just a few mechanics. Very Braid-like in how you were exhaustive in showing the different ways you could play with the world. Of course the atmosphere and graphics were a cherry on top, but I'm glad you have a very solid game foundation here.
