Legacy by gil4

Genre:
Platformer/Puzzle
Description:
Discover the secrets of a recently destroyed civilization with Dunwo, the freelancing archaeologist. Aiming to save the extinct locals and maybe earn a coin or two in the process, our brave hero with his trusty backpack and a teleport sphere starts his greatest journey to date. However, being the first one to the recent explosion epicenter, Dunwo struggles with getting everything he finds packed into the backpack – too many interesting things just lying around. Some sacrifices will be nigh unavoidable, and only you can help him decide what's worthy of becoming a part of the local race's Legacy.
Here's a map of the world Dunwo is about to explore:

Controls:
- A/D or Left/Right – Moving left/right
- W or Up or Space – Jumping
- E or Z or L – Shooting the sphere/teleporting to that sphere on second press
- Q or X – Calling the sphere back without teleporting to it
- I – Opening inventory
- Arrows/Enter – Navigating the menus
- Escape – Pausing (in-game)

Hotfix (14.08):
- Fixed a bug that made finishing the game impossible while having zero inventory slots left.
- Fixed a bug with one of the decorations' layers being in the wrong place.
- Added L as an alternative button to shoot the teleport sphere due to several requests.
Version 1.1 (21.08):
- Fixed the bug with an item description panel not disappearing.
- Fixed ghosts' physics to avoid some rare bugs.
- Fixed dialogue text typos.
- Fixed basketball's description.
- Added visual effect to being damaged state (screen frame) to make it easier to notice.
- Added a slight delay between the moment the teleport sphere is thrown and the moment the character can teleport to it.
- Added an app icon.
- Made inventory slot addition/loss slightly easier to notice.
- Made tutorial dialogues harder to accidentally skip.
- Tweaked a few thorns hitboxes.
- Tweaked a few texts' colors to make those more readable.
- Changed thorns' outline glow color to red.
- On "choose which item to throw away" prompt the item initially selected is now the one you've just picked up, not the one from the first slot.
- Mouse cursor now gets hidden in fullscreen mode.

It's fantastic. The graphics are nice, the sound is perfect and the idea is so well executed.
Had a lot of fun, thank you for your submission!!
The best game i've played so far, gratz !
@plukers, we slept for 6-8 hours between day 1 and day 2, then for 2-3 hours between days 2 and 3, haha. Overscoped a bit with the world size, had to cut some sleep time to implement most of what we had planned.
@robowarrior1982, yeah, that's not intended, just a side-effect to the way the physics work here. It'll be fixed in future builds, but I couldn't fix it (re-structure some core logic) fast enough to fit into the initial version time constraints.
@olivier-millochau, I guess you have played the pre-hotfix version, there you can't read them and finish the game unless you find an additional bag item; after the hotfix, you can't go down below one inventory slot, so you'll always be able to read the descriptions, plus the end-game screen has them all listed, even for the items you have never found.
You can teleport up walls by jumping and teleporting constantly, is this intended?
Overall a really nice entry for Ludum Dare
I would not be surprised if I see this game popping up on steam etc very soon.
Edit: never mind, found and fixed it; thanks again for bringing it to our attention!
I found some of the puzzles slightly frustrating, especially the one where we have to race the teleport globe at the end, I had already lost my slots then so it wasn't that bad for me but if I had managed to keep more items up until then and then tried that puzzle I think I would be very frustrated as I would have lost everything trying to get through the gate. I think if the timing was a bit less tight and/or the obstacles were a bit easier to avoid on that one it would help. Also a minor thing, is I think I had a bug with pop ups. After losing slots and picking up new items I got a pop up for the item at the front of the list rather than the newest item.
All in all, I really enjoyed it, I thought the concept and puzzles were good and I thought the art, animation and atmosphere were superb!
Though I feel needed to say that you are growing, it feels. I really wish you luck, and hope to see more from you in the future, keep it up!
Beautiful graphisms and mood, I liked all the detailed items,
The only problem is that it's way to hard ! Goog thing that their is no game over and that you can still play when you should have been dead, I collect 28 item to keep only one at the end, the most important, but I don't think it's possible to collect more...
Still, well done ! :)

just seemed so random to me to get enough vertical speed, and I kept falling into the spikes. I lost my remaining few items on the very last puzzle. Generally, the brambles are too easy to touch. It would help if they were more distinguished from background, if there was more feedback when I touched them, and if the hitbox was shrunk a bit. I did like the idea that you needed to play perfectly to get everything, and the sense of permanent loss from hitting one of these.
Some bugs:
- Towards the end of the game it was showing me descriptions that clearly didn't match the item's drawing.
- There's a part where you have to use your warp bubble similar to the last puzzle to get two items that are right next to one another (one was a newspaper clipping for me; not sure if this is random). If you warp while the bubble is right on top of both of these, then you collect both in the same frame and the second dialog box never goes away. I had to reset.
Again, an overall really good game. :)
@tom7, you've actually identified the exact two places we're nerfing in the next update, removing the spikes from the three currents spot and making the thorns' hitboxes slightly smaller in the final race, so props for that. :P As for the descriptions not matching the items - it's not actually a bug, but a UI/UX issue that commonly causes that confusion. When you're picking a new item up while your inventory's full, the prompt for an item to throw away will open the inventory and focus the first item you have instead of the most recently taken one. Sadly I had more pressing and game-breaking issues during the last hours of the jam, so it stayed in the jam version; it's fixed in the next build though. Thanks a lot for the detailed feedback!
Beautiful beautiful game. Love it. :)
