Polar Delivery by onnofal

Dealing with the theme

Did not want to go with exchange life / hitpoints / time for some abilities / actions / powerups, so I just used the theme as an starting point for something ending more like 'Your life is important'. Placing player not into direct control of the game, but with crucial influence and responsibility (in this case for cargo delivery).

About the game

This game is intentionally missing any action mechanics. It is more like bringing you as a player to relaxing meditative environment. Observe and navigate the sailboat by telling your helmsmate. There is no other goal to reach than the sailing while avoiding obstacles itself.

Post submission

Preferable version to play with few little tweaks done after 48h limit. Original binaries at same location. - Adjustable mouse-look sensitivity - More true collider shape of the ship - Ability to go back to title in menu

I apologize for not testing properly Win & Mac builds this time

Well seems like all of you playing so far can confirm Windows build works :)

@siebenmik Hi, I've tried to build it but I haven't tested it properly (and unfortunately will not have a chance before end of compo), so if there are some major troubles, maybe as post-mortem version. Thanks

Windows version worked fine for me. I love the visuals! everything feels really smooth and solid. I love the scope detail and de inverted Y option.

Well done! I have lost several times, is there and end of the game?

PS. I love how the penguin thanks you when you have just hit the iceberg, too cute! haha

Mac build worked fine for me. Indirect control logic in this game is awesome. However, it wasn't a meditative environment for me. I was always worried because of icebergs :)

Windows version works for me.

What a beautiful game. The atmosphere is very relaxing. The whole environment, waves and snowfall are wonderful to look at. The music fits perfectly.

I also like the interaction with your helmsman.

Played Win64 version and works fine! Love the atmosphere, the visuals and the audio really does it for me (the zooming sound should have lower volume though). Love the penguin's animations as well when you decide on a direction, cute!

Windows version works fine, tested! So relaxing game. Not so engaging, but it's okay for this type of game I guess. And I love this sweet pingi! Good job!

A fun and interesting little LD. The sounds and graphics is really good. The camera movement is a bit weird, and it makes the game a bit difficult to play. Overall a really good LD game. Well done.

@onnofal Unfortunately I can't get mine to work on Win64

It doesn't get mouse movement input

Worked for me using Windows 10 64bit. atmosphere is relaxing and you get lost in the moment until you hit an iceberg. no stress or jump scares... just a very chill game.

@siebenmik Sorry to hear. Is there anything unusual in your system configuration or any idea? I am confused how it works for others and not for you, and honestly nothing serious or hacky happening there with Unity input then reading the value :)

The game seeks to bring a "relaxing meditative environment", and it succeeds at that. I love the penguins.

It's a bit awkward to turn around to steer, and I found the default inverted Y axis to be confusing (I vote for not inverted to be the default :).

The scope is a nice touch.

Lovely iceberg-avoidance simulator! At first I was searching for fish with the scope.

Cute little game :)
Lovely atmosphere, both relaxing and anxious.
As in most of the game I tried up to now, I do not see a strict correlation to the theme. But I also sincerely hated this theme, so I totally understand you!

@p0nce Absolutely :) If there is another feature ever coming, it is fishing in the meantime. Even just as an optionable fun part.

I was about to comment that it doesn't fit the theme at first but looking at your game description, I understand where your stance is and I absolutely respect that decision.

That decision made you create a game that is relaxing for a change and gives of a great atmosphere which is a very good decision.

Its nice to have a game in LD44 that deviates from the shooters, killing types, and just relax and slow down the pace.

Very good graphics, and relaxing gameplay, and atmosphere building is spot on. Congrats man!

I know that the theme of this year's Ludum Dare isn't really included, I know that it has practically no action mechanics and so on but... I just love this game anyway. :) It really made me happy to see you create the game on the LD44 site, it made for great meme and I can't get enough of this game's cuteness. It's really calming and beautiful. Great job!

Amazing graphics and the penguine is super cute! Liked that it was even possible to change the y-axis-setting during the game :) Maybe you could turn up the music a little bit in comparison to the click-sound, I really enjoyed this wave sound

Really loved the super cute penguin - that was amazing.
There was a weird dichotomy for me between the super relaxing ambiance, which I loved, only to have the game end with a loud violent crash.
Love that you made such a relaxing game and really went out there in a bold and daring way.

Hey,

I love penguins, so I was a bit disappointed not to see more of them, or be able to interact more with it. However the mood, music and feel is great. The mechanic with the scope works great. I would have loved more interesting things to look at, it quickly become a bit boring, but the music kept me in it. Great job!
