Space Captain Leslie in... Disasteroids!!
Help Space Captain Leslie take down the mighty Space Criminal in this action packed.. uh, I guess twin stick shooter. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H97FkCsc5sM
Controls
Use either WASDQE or the mouse to move, space or click to shoot. Combine the two in any way you like. Destroy the bad guy's space ships all while avoiding them, as well as asteroids.

Theme
The theme tie-in is a little abstract, but Your guys run out of bullets and have to sacrifice themselves to carry on...

Quick Fix Notes
- Fixed a bug that caused the ammo counter to display 1 more bullet than you had. (12/4, 12:35am)
- Fixed (12/4, 1:50AM)
- Big Bad Bug that failed to stop sounds when restarting a match (really sorry)
- A bug that would fail to flag the player as victorious if captain leslie was already talking... whoops.
- Fixed (12/5, 10:35AM)
- Fixed hitboxes on asteroids - they were too big and square, causing some bogus hits.
- Added Asteroid hit protection to prevent you from getting absolutely merc'd by hitting a medium and having the two small ones spawn directly on top of you. You now have about a second to get away from there.
- Fixed the enemy's off-screen firing guardrail - they were only supposed to fire while completely visible, but I did my math wrong. Also, their shot timer will no longer tick unless they are fully visible, too. This will reduce the amount of peek-a-boo pot-shot the second they return to the screen.
- When respawning (and spawning in for the first time), the amount of enemies left is displayed in the center of the screen. previously, the only hint you had was Leslie telling you "we're halfway there!" and that was only if another piece of dialog was not already playing lol.
- Fixed (12/5, 8:05PM)
- Fixed the game landing directly into the gameplay and skipping the main menu and intro cinematic............................................. RIP humor score ;_;
- Fixed (12/6, 1:51PM)
- Patched the volume of the audio in the main cutscene! I didn't know it was too loud, sorry for anyone I spooked lmao

That said I have a lot of remarks about the difficulty.
* The asteroids have a very large collision boundary and touching them means I take repeated hits with no invulnerability timer. When I die the enemies fly past me off-screen...
* If I let the enemies get off-screen then they can shoot me without me seeing where they are.
* Once I die more enemies will still spawn, making the game snowball away from me as I lose multiple ships in a row.
* It's lengthy for a game jam game and all these little issues add up to frustration.
* There is no visible score counter so I don't really know how far I'm getting apart from the dialogue.
Edit: I first tried the game on keyboard only(cause, laptop). I was able to get to around 70% of the way through the game doing that. With keyboard + mouse, combat becomes so much easier that these difficulty issues, while still present, aren't as obvious.
The intro-cuscene was absolutely amazing, I loved your humorous voice-acting, I hope you had a lot of fun making that!
Once you get used to the physics it plays very well.
One remark you might be aware of: when you fly against the edge of the screen, you get blocked but your velocity doesn't reset, so it takes a bit to move away from the edge again.
You really did an awesome job, especially for the ~20 hours you worked on it!
@preda thank you kindly. It was very fun.
@stratoskakalis High score could be a cool addition. I'll look into it! As for more drag - I'd been playing the game every 5 minutes as I made it, so I got very used to the controls. I was very nervous that when I released it, something would be off that I just got used to haha I'll look into that, too.
Absolutely love the audio. The graphism were reaaly nice too.
My only complaint could be about the difficulty, which was a bit high in my opinion.
But beside thta, that's a pretty good game !
I found it great when I realized how the theme was respected, that every bullet and life counted. It's a nice twist on this classic space shooter formula.
The dialogues on the bottom of the screen are nice, it gives a lot of personnality to the experience.
Oh and the mouse controls are a nice touch !
Space-congrats for your entry !
the controls are excellent... the text made me laugh quite nicely =)
I really liked this one man, if you get a good narrator this can become like a good comedy sci fi crazy game I believe
@blacklambert big oof, I have a 1080p lolol I didn't even consider screen size. that was an oversight, thanks for pointing it out. I'll try to look into resizing.
Love the narration man, the best one so far. <3
GJ anyway nice game !
Oh jeez, was it too loud?? I'm so sorry lmao I'll make a patch to lower it, my bad!!
Gameplay was nice if a bit too slow, I used the keyboard to accelerate and the mouse to orient. Projectiles were consistent with the aim, making it overall nice to play.
The only downpoint for me is that I don't clearly see what there is to sacrifice for the theme. My closest guess would be the lives of the spaceship pilots, but I think that could have been more researched.
Oh, also, Double Space Damn ! *Space laugh*.
@williwiderstand thank you very much! I like making strange, jarring moods with my music and I'm pleased with how it came out ;) thanks for playing!
@pellanor Thanks for playing! Yeah I've heard that from other people, too. Its subtle, but the longer you play, the faster the enemy ships spawn and shoot. I was hoping that would produce enough intrigue to last through to the end, but my numbers were a bit off  I'll make a note of it for next time ;)
Thanks for playing, everyone!
Also, nice soundtrack! Really enjoyed it, fit really well into a space-asteroid-ship-shooting kind of game!
@kutase Thanks for the kind words ;)
@drauce Yeah the controls for keyboard were not great, I designed the mouse controls first and keyboard was an afterthought haha sorry. And yes, that was intended, you had to be careful with your shots or you couldnt win. Someone else above pointed out that for a game jam game with that intention, it was probably way too long. I can definitely understand that. sorry if was frustrating haha. Thanks for playing
I had a really hard time understanding the movement scheme, which is maybe just because I'm not used to Asteroids, but some in-game tutorial would have been nice hehe. Overall I enjoyed the intro, graphics and music!
@3ncryp73d space thanks, my space dude!
