Hug Me I'm Cold by reizoukin

made by reizoukin for LD 40 (JAM)

It's really cold. Do you ever want to put on a million sweaters?

ezgif.com-video-to-gif.gif

Well be careful! The more you wear, the slower you move! You just...you got too many sweaters on!

Try to find wood wood copy.png and shelter tent.png in the frozen tundra. Take it back to the campsite shelter.png before you freeze!

Use WASD or Arrow Keys to move. Use F to pick up items, and F to drop them at the campsite again.

had to put ".zip" at the end of the file I downloaded :) game worked fine. really liked the cute graphics you had. music was also fitting well. no idea what jukedeck does. did you make the music yourself? is jukedeck an online music tool or does it spit out music files?

Like the graphics, sounds and snow theme :)

@fskr was that the windows version? Jukedeck randomly generates music based on a genre/theme that you choose.

Thanks to both of you!

File extension needs to be added to extract the game, after learning the position of the log and tent it became very easy to progress without using any sweaters, perhaps randomising their location a bit would keep the challenge up?

@meles Hopefully the file extension is fixed now! I know, randomising might have been a good option--will look into it. For the jam though we just ran out of time :P

Fun game with a simple premise. I think it definitely could have benefitted from some additional mechanics though.

Is a good concept: could use randomization, and i think that a good randomization you can have (almost) infinite play. Ah and some obstacles (maybe the trees in the last level are an hint to that?). It also could use some animation on the character (idle, walk) Good job.

@kromeboy thank you very much! I addressed some of those things in a post earlier if you're interested, but thank you very much for the feedback! https://ldjam.com/events/ludum-dare/40/hug-me-im-cold/hug-me-im-cold-postmortem

Great idea!! Enjoyed playing especially that the difficulty increased dramatically with each level.

I Like the take on the theme. This reminds me of my first Ludum Dare Entry.

Hahaha, laughed a lot when wearing more clothes! Idea was simple but fitted to theme. Like the small world idea.

I think you've got a viable idea here. However, in the current implementation, is there really any use at all for the sweaters ? Even without knowing the level's layout in advance, it didn't feel like the heat bonus made up for the slowed down movement when it came to exploring the area, except as an emergency measure to finish reaching the campsite.

Still, if you manage to achieve some nice balance, the result should be pretty interesting.

@exnihilo You make a fair point, we didn't have much time to balance the sweaters. That's probably worth looking into. Thank you for the feedback!

I agree with the sweater ballance.
In addition, I think it would be more interesting if the level were more of a maze rather than a simple square. That would be more interesting to explore.

You could have lit fireplaces where the player can warm themselves up before continuing on their search of whatever it is they are looking for.

Also, not sure how this would change the ballance of the game, but I think it would be nice to have some visual indicators at the edge of the screen so the player has some inkling of where to find some stuff. This might be more useful in an irregular level.

The music is pretty nice, and I like how the player character's visuals change with the extra sweaters. Really cool! :)

@andreas-ragen-ayal thank you for your feedback! Pretty much all of those things were in the plan, to be honest, but we ran out of time. Definitely wanted longer levels where you could warm up, we discussed possibly using the sweaters you're wearing to build a tent, chopping down trees for wood would have been cool...maybe if we revisit this then this will all be things we add!

It could have distilled the gameplay a bit further, like its a bit too slippy and slow, but otherwise its pretty good.

This was a cute game! little bit random with the "collect a tent, collect the wood, then go to the brown thing to go to next level". However, I did enjoy it, the jumper mechanic was good, and after a few levels I started to see how the puzzle element comes into it. Good work <3
