From within the forbidden woods, witches compete among themselves to decide who is the superior sweetooth of these parts by kidnapping annoying children and turning them into candies.

Be part of the Sweet Sweet Witch Hunt controlling Karol Conkah, the bewitching little witch, and become the queen of the woods. But beware that George Congie, the infamous witch hunter, lies in wait deep into the forest, on a futile attempt to save those kids.

Mechanics

  • A 2D pretty-witch-hunt-action game with arcade shooter's elements mixed in it and inspired by classics such as Zelda.
  • Capture the children and throw them into the cauldron to make some sweet candies and increase your score, while avoiding the hunter.

Gosh that's creepy! I like the art, and the gameplay is neat too - my favourite part is the guns literally shooting the word "BANG" :D That laugh is very annoying after a while though - creepy but annoying! Ended up stopping playing after a while because the difficulty seemed to rap up pretty slowly and not much was changing about the game after playing it for a while!

Loved the laugh, but it did get irritating! Maybe a sploosh sound would have been funnier. Loved the gameplay and the characters.

Cute, though there wasn't that much to keep playing. Maybe with a little more work it could be more interesting!

Gameplay becomes a bit repetitive with time. Aside of that a fun little game.

Wow, simply wow! How does one take a dark theme, make it darker, yet so vivid? lol
I'm conflicted, I want to laugh at the idea because this is a video game after all but the moral implications... :P

I like the simplicity of it especially the how to play "Put that there!" that made me smile.
It also made me smile seeing the word "BANG!" whenever the gun was fired. That was a nice touch.

Question...WHO IS THROWING THESE CHILDREN INTO THE FORREST!?
Maybe they should be turned into candy. lol

Alright, my recommendation is to maybe allow me to carry more than one children at a time since the game uses a grid-based movement which makes it slow to take one at a time and navigate the grid. Honestly, if you can update the movement to be more free seeing as the main character is flying it might fix that all together but it probably changes the gameplay drastically and the design behind it.

You are totally right! TAnd there's a explanation for that hahaha
We got the gameplay unbalanced after implementing the hunter shoot delay and witch recovering time (on the last hours), so we hadn't time to think on how to balance it again. Before that changes, the hunters were shooting instantly after seeing the witch so it was much harder to avoid the BANGs. Also the score was decreasing quickly without the recovering time.

We wanted to do that, but we had no time to implement it! hahahahah

The intention were to make lots of candy fly all over the field while the kids were on the cauldron, and the player would have to get it before the other kids eat all the candy. Also the kids would get fat after eating the candy hahahaha

The idea of the game is exactly to bring up this conflict, the graphics are funny and cute, but in fact what the witch does is exaggerated and cruel. Glad that you got!

I'll have nightmare from that laughing, and the pickup sound didn't really match the athmosphere.
The music was a good choice and the graphics are neat <3

I liked the witch laugh and graphics, but there was some tonal mismatch between the graphics and the interpretation of the theme that you chose. Got a score of 100,000, but then I found out you couldn't die.

Great art! I Think there should for sure be a bigger punishment/death for getting hit by the hunter, as he was avoided easily. A few other hazards/enemies would have been nice too.

I also wonder, was the game intended for 4player, considering there's all those portraits up top? Thanks for the game!

The game was a bit too easy.
I think it would have been balanced if it was a competition between 2 or 4 players, but i guess you guys already know this (As far as i can tell with the four portrait on top).
SFX were a bit on the loud side.
The graphics was spot on, except for the tileset for the ground. That feels a bit strange.
Overall it still looks nice.

I love the constrast between the cutesyness of the sprites and the actual implication of what the witch is doing. The audio also fits well with the game.

It definitely feels like there should be a bigger penalty for getting hit, seeing that the witch gets a really long invulnerbility time and the shots have a long delay and are easy to dodge.
Also the controls do feel a bit clunky due to the tilebased movement.

That laugh. I can't get it out of my head, I played for to long...
Great litle game. If you would like to improve it in the future I would suggest some work on the hunter AI. Something where the hunters communicate with each other to make sure they do not overlap or take the same path. I arrived at a point where there was at least 10 hunters and all of them where at the exact same spot so when they fired it was very easy to dodge.
None the less I had fun, good job!

Love throwing those kids into the cauldron! And the textures are amazing.
Great to spend 5-10 minutes with but gets pretty boring then because it doesnt seem to get any harder anymore.
I was wondering if you can actually die. At some point I just stood around let those 5 hunters hit me and just lost little to no score (was around 120k score).

What a nice looking game, congrats @pamy ! I must say, I didn't quite get the "currency" part of the theme. Is it that you lose score when you get hit? I think it might need some tweaking, being hit isn't that punishing.

I like the art! Unfortunately it's incredibly easy and repetitive even with the max number of hunters. The sounds are really loud and annoying as well, especially the laugh. I don't really see the connection with the theme either, but it isn't that bad of an entry.
