Npigs by 6smith

A tricolor arcade game where you command N pigs. Made in 48 hours.

In Npigs your goal is to get all of your pigs as high as possible. The catch is that the higher you climb, the more pigs you have to move around and prevent from falling. Your score is equal to the number of pigs multiplied by the height of the lowest pig. So, if you drop to the ground your score drops to 0!
(Okay and by pigs I mean those things that look certainly nothing like pigs)

And the sound design is really good. Like the falling sound a lot
[edit] Also dropping to the ground does not change my score.
@riemann-integrable thank you! checkpoints were one of the features i considered adding, but instead i opted for pig-death (which doesn't seem to happen very often, so...) anyways, thanks for playing!
everyone else: thank you guys for playing! make sure you leave a rating and ill be returning the favor on your games :)
Could we also get a mute button
Congrats on the entry!
The physics is sometimes a bit buggy, specially when you stack a bunch of piggies on top of each other, but nothing game-breaking.
The gameplay is really fun and the level is good to play. The camera movement could be smoother though.
So are you trying to tell us in a clever way that those people with mexican hats are, wait what?
If you make a post-compo version, please make sure to add another jump button. Pressing up for double jump feels wrong for some reason.
Awesome first entry!
Looking at the previous comments, I'm not the only one with leaderboard issues.
Like everyone else, I LOVED the soundtrack and thought the falling sound was cool. Interesting that you mentioned pig death. I was sure my pig would die after that fall, but nothing happened. I just climbed back up again.
Checkpoints would be cool, but I can agree that no checkpoints make the game more challenging. But it also increases the chance of a ragequit.
All in all, one of my favourites. I love the tight controls!
@krasse i probably will make a post-LD version, and yes, one thing i definitely want to add is custom controls.
@budgiem2 it's true that you have to adjust your play style the farther you get. i think the pig death mechanic works well for some play styles, and checkpoints for others. in a post-LD version i think i'll probably add checkpoints. oh yeah, the L-shaped ones are actually rectangular because i didn't realize the engine only supports rectangular hitboxes. i didn't end up having time to fix that lol
@andreas-ragen-ayal pigs die after they have been falling for a little more than two seconds. i think a mix of pig death and checkpoints might be the way forward for a post-LD version.
@yetman it is endless!
thanks for your comments, everybody! i hope i've been able to address most of your questions.
However, the more pigs you free, the more annoying it gets, they do not really add anything
and it is hard to keep everyone on the same level. maybe make all the freed pigs follow you , unless you drop one for a puzzle ?
anyways, there are definitely some changes that can be made to make the beginning much more forgiving and give each player a little more time to develop a strategy.
something for me to think about! thanks for playing.
I had fun playing, and you hit the theme because as I got more pigs having one fall a long way was a real "OH NOOOOO" moment since i'd have to climb him all the way back up.
I got really high and was surprised at how large the level was that you guys built. I kept expecting to find the end but it just kept going.
Toward the end I just took one pig at a time up to see if i could find it and I climbed until I unavoidably fell back down.
Are you the guy who suggested '3 colors' for a theme by any chance? lol
the level is procedural! you get a new one every time you refresh the page. it's also endless!
nope, i was not the one who suggested that theme. it's an even funnier coincidence considering that at least one other game uses a three-color palette!
thanks for playing!
Maybe some sort of minimap at the side of the screen would have been nice, so I could better know which pig is selected and where he is (or maybe how high he is) relative to others.
The art style is nice and it has simple but addictive gameplay. Nicely done :D
Also *really* happy how you allow for double jumping and air jumping. Great to see LD platformers that are brave enough to allow for that.
