APIS by Zarkonnen

[raw]
made by Zarkonnen for LD 44 (JAM)

In APIS, you control a swarm of bees. Gather nectar, care for your brood, defend against attackers. Gather enough nectar and you can bring forth the Imperatrix Apis, the Bee Empress.

Controls

  • Click on a flower to send a bee to harvest nectar.
  • Click on an enemy to send a bee to sting it.
  • First Button: Make new bee (4 nectar)
  • Second Button: Relocate hive (each bee can only carry one nectar, so surplus nectar will be discarded)
  • Third Button: Bring forth the Imperatrix Apis (100 nectar)

Nice game. Didn't managed to complete it too. The sound mix is kind of odd, maybe id need some fixing becouse some fx are very loud

A very fun game, but the hornets keept killing my workers so I was stuck in a seemingly endless loop of reproducing bees to collect honey to reproduce bees to... Is this what being a bee is like?

Overall a good game!

It's a good game but gets a bit boring over time. This might be just me, but well done anyhow!

Click on the hornets to kill them quickly, and you can accumulate workers and honey over time.

Cool idea, was quite difficult to keep up the bee population if it got low as the enemies would take out quite a few bees when they came. Its fun though and a unique idea. good job

The little swarm of bees looks great, and works very well even when splitting up jobs between multiple flowers. I think some of the enemies like the rat (?) could be more clear in what they were doing- I wasn't sure if it was going for my bees or my honey, or both. I haven't seen anyone else do this take on the theme and it fits very well!

Nice work, especially the music and that it changes dynamically when entering a fight.

Nice relaxing game but coudln't seem to get over 15 bees at any one time. A couple of very minor things I noticed - the hit box for the buttons doesn't match their shape and it's not possible to click on a flower with pollen if it's partially visible behind the buttons.

Good concept, but I couldn't really understand what to do and by bees kept dying faster than I could get new ones. Good game overall.

A pleasant game, audio and gameplay-wise. I finished the game, and the empress was born! It left due south, towards the blue screen

I guess a good metaphor for exploitative economy. Harvest all the flowers and watch your bees slowly die off.

I wish there was an indicator of how much things cost though and what they were. The hive button in the middle had me confused for a while. Like others have said, the buzzing sound was quite a bit loud compared to the music. Other than that, had fun =)

A very good game! Loved the concept, it is very intuitive to play and well tweaked. The music and the sound fx make it very enjoyable!
