Donut Dash by Jordan Neff

[raw]
made by Jordan Neff for LD 40 (JAM)

In DONUT DASH it's your job to sort all of the donuts into their corresponding boxes. Also, if you happen see any non-donut items just toss them in the reject bin! Be careful to put things into the correct boxes, and don't let the donuts fall on the floor or the boss will increase your workload!

NOTE: We couldn't get all the code implemented in time! :( The game works, but unfortunately we ran out of time to implement the last few minor features and tweaks. I will continue to work on it so keep an eye out for updates!

Love the art and music. I'm not sure if it's my own mouse sensitivity, but i had to increase my mouse DPI to get a smoother feel. But it worked well for me afterwards

Haha. What did I just play! Great models for sure. The turning mechanics were a bit awkward, and throwing took a bit to get used to, a little sluggish. Good job though!

The game was fun at times. I didn't enjoy the camera switching and sometimes I would try to pick something up and instantly throw it or not pick it up at all. But, I did really like the "Non donut" items being like diamonds and gold bars and stuff

Had some problems after some time and turns i couldn't rotate the camera in the horizontal axis anymore. So i couldn't aim properly.

Fun, cute game. The graphics and audio are wonderful! Very well done. I did have a bit difficulty with the controls as they seemed a bit wonky at times, but overall a fantastic creation. Great job.

This game looks like it could be so much fun, but the controls were janky for me :sob:. The mouse movement felt floaty and would stick to the edges. Frequently I didn't seem to pick up the item I was hovering, and it was annoying to accidentally "re-grab" a non-donut after trying to toss it.

That said: fun soundtrack, very nice set design, and a game that ticks off almost every "addicting" checkbox, except for the issues with the controls.

Any chance of a 32-bit version?

The controls were a little janky and I was experiencing some lag, buuuut I really liked everything else about it. The graphics were cute and polished, the gameplay was fun (albeit simple), and the difficulty seemed tuned just about right. Well done!

I liked the music, and it was cool according to the theme, but the control is very difficult, or maybe I did not intend it, just that it gets stuck = /

Love the art and music, I too would now like one of those donuts.
I had some real fun with this game, good job.
The mechanics and UI were also very good, with some more polish this could be a very good game. Perhaps, if scaled back, for mobile even.
My only criticism is with the controls. The view controls are a bit floaty and get stuck on the edges, and to be honest I'm not a fan of having to rotate with keyboard to get to the bin and the boxes. This could have worked maybe if assigning 3 keys as a shortcut to fast switch between the view areas you need, while still giving the player the ability to look around completely. Or maybe just having the bin and boxes behind the conveyor for ease.
Very good entry though.

@jordan-neff The made with Unity splash appears and then I just get a magenta screen. But that's farther than I got, considering I'm using a 2009/2010 netbook with integrated graphics.

I liked the music and the graphics. And I like the idea of the game, but I wish the controls were more responsive I think I would enjoy the game a lot if they were. On the help screen I noticed the last sentence wasn't finished...

Don't let the donuts fall on the
:p
Good job!

Mouse movements were exceedingly, frustratingly sluggish. The graphics and audio design were spot on, and as strange as the instant-turn mechanic was at the beginning, I did grow to like it. The camera lag was just painful, though...

Still some good work, though!

Great concept. The controls didn't work correctly for me. A left click would sometimes just push the items right off the conveyor belt and other times it would pick up some random object that had fallen on the floor instead of the one I was looking at. The decision to turn via switching cameras was a bit jarring as you would have to re-orient yourself every time you switched. Fun concept and funny music.

Gorgeous, but the control were wayyyyy too smoothed, it makes it really difficult to play. The music was good also !

Fun little game, I loved the artstyle it all came together really nicely. The movement felt a little unresponsive at times and switching viewpoints could get confusing at times, but overall you did a great job! Nice work!

The graphics are pretty and made me want to eat donuts. The mouse sensitivity seemed very floaty and unresponsives. Not ideal for a game that require reflex and speed. Also the rejects and display boxes could have been on the same screen as the conveyor belt behind it.

Love the idea and the graphics are great, but I could hardly play the game because of view controls. After I changed view, the rotation of x-axis wouldnt move and would be stuck looking at end of the conveyor belt or in between the donuts boxes and the reject box. Sometimes it flashes to the opposite end and back. Unfortunately I couldnt play it much since the wonky view controls started to make me dizzy. But I did understand the concept idea and it looked really fun!

Cool concept, controls were a bit challenging, and it overall hosed my poor old 2011 iMac with those serious graphics!

@Nikolaj sorry about that! Making a few pre-defined proper graphics settings was on the list but unfortunately didn't get done in time. Some things like shadows and reflections I do believe are affected by the quality settings as of right now, but they probably won't do much for the ol' iMac. We're in the process of trying to make everything control a bit better even though the jam is long over, but when we do release the updated version I'll make sure there graphics quality options do more :)
