I love the flashlight lighting up the dungeon -- it really makes you feel like you are lost in a maze and adds to the atmosphere. Some spooky music would have made it really awesome.
Was I supposed to be able to interact with the barrels?
I quite enjoyed your game!

@snufkinshat Thanks for playing! I was planning to add many things (barrel interaction and music to name a couple) but I ran out of time.

I hear ya! I had to keep simplifying my game to have a finished product, too. :-) Funny enough, my game is also a maze exploration game where you have to use up your life to explore.

@snufkinshat I look forward to playing it! I was too tired to write up descriptions for the game last night so I'm getting that out of the way then I'll take it for a spin :)

Cool game! Love the atmosphere land the demon gate "idea". Would have loved to hear some spooky music or even a simple ambience track. If you ever need help in that dept. (music and sfx) feel free to get in touch.

I like the idea here, and the flashlight is well done. I found the level design a little problematic though, because there was no way to tell which way I was supposed to go, so the decision of whether to cross a gate or not felt less like a tactical decision and more like a guess. A good fit for the theme though, well done! As the other commenter mentioned, it could use some music, but time is a big limit in these things.

I liked the level design, as we have to make choice between trying to pass though traps and don't get it, or play it safe and sacrifice some health.

An interesting little game, nice job !

Loved the game! At first I thought it would be easy but level 2 took a while to beat. Some simple music would have been nice, as would some simple animations for the player. The spooky sounds and dim lighting added to the atmosphere of the game. Great job!

@amerigo-gazaway Glad you enjoyed it! I wish it had music as well but I finished adding sound effects with 4 minutes to go before submission :P Thanks for the offer I bookmarked your site!

@squirmonkey Yeah there's definitely guesswork involved. I figured with only having 3 levels it would be too quick of an experience if you could just breeze through it. Thanks for playing!

@unplugred Much appreciated!

@ninjacatz Thanks for playing! Glad you made it through!

@someday-not-today haha thanks!

@yvanor I'm glad you liked it! I was running way behind and made the levels on submission day :p

@gullyngames I hear you. They were definitely planned (along with a monster that would patrol the halls) but I finished right at the buzzer. Next time haha thanks for playing!

@pixscope Much love!

I agree with the others, that some background music would enhanced the mood quite a lot.

But even without that, it feels like you are really lost in a maze. The hard decisions of stepping through a gate or not helps there.

I like the flashlight idea. After the first level I thought it was quite unnecessary, but with the traps in the second level it really made sense and was very cool.

A running animation would have also been nice ;)

But all in all good work!

@simonl I completely agree with the music/animation suggestions. I fell behind during the jam and they unfortunately didn't make the cut. I was extra choked about the lack of music especially because it definitely would have helped the mood.

I planned to have more levels but when it became clear I would have to settle for 3 my thinking was first introduce mechanics, second introduce hazards, third ramp up the difficulty. Thanks for playing!

Enjoyed the flashlight mechanics. Felt maybe some animation on the character and some music would have gone a long way here but I get it that we're making these games under pretty extreme time constraints. Well done with this though, was a good concept :)

@sahoskins1 Thanks! I spent too much time prototyping this time around. I won't make that mistake next jam :)

Quite nice experience, I like calmer adventure-like games, it's challenging and relaxing at the same time haha. Liked the demon door mechanics

The flashlight effects are really cool, and it definitely adds to the overall mood in this game. It's fun crawling through the creepy dungeon to try and find a way out with only your flashlight. The different paths and hazards really add a sense of impending doom, and I enjoyed doing my best to avoid them. I think maybe adding some music would really kick the overall mood up to 11.
Nice job!

I really like the spooky atmosphere within the dungeons! I also really like the puzzles! I think a feature that you could add is so you don't have to pay to go over a demon gate once you have already gone over it once, this isn't an issue whatsoever though!

Overall, this is a really good jam entry!

@black-flag I like that idea! I think a level redesign incorporating more gates (and wrong paths) with one time costs would probably be better than the approach I took. Definitely something to think about. Thanks for playing!

Anyone happen to know how to opt out of humor? I wasn't given the option when I submitted the game and can't seem to do it now either. In my last two jams (LD41 and LD42) you could edit the game and opt out of categories. Not that it's a big deal but it wasn't designed with humor in mind :P

I loved the light and the dungeon graphics. Iw ish the gates disappeared after passing through them since the map design relies mostly on guessing and it feels a little unfair to pay the passing price more than once.

The overall idea for a game is really nice, I like the mechanic with managing your health by chasing routes, however there are some tips I would probably give:
1) It's something obvious, but lacking music is something that makes game less climatic, and it could be just a simple ambient that plays creepy notes and it would make it much better
2) Maybe it would be better to replace these half hearts with spikes of some kind, imo it's not matching the climate
3) Maybe you could add some interaction to other objects, like barrels. The game would feel more real.

Anyway, great job :)

The light was a good mechanic, allowing you to peer beyond the gates to see if it would be worth it. The mazes felt a little trial and error, perhaps you could put a few more potions in dead ends so that they feel less like a waste.

Definitely very tense, though!

I liked how I had to make a deicsion on managing the health when coming across multiple routes having a common demon gate for all of them, it made the level quite interesting. Allowing the player to sneak on the other side of the demon gate from an apparent dead end on the other side via the torch is also a good mechanic, well done on the entry :)

@datagreed I agree! I fell behind and made all the levels on the last day. When I realized I'd only have time for 3 I tried to make it so you had to learn from your mistakes and apply that to the next attempt rather than breezing right through it. Turned out a bit on the punishing side though. Thanks for playing!

@manus I definitely wish I had time to add music (among other things haha). My first jam game without it :*( Interesting about the half hearts I'll keep that in mind. Thanks for the feedback!

@sparewizard That's a good idea. I did all the levels on the last day and didn't have much time to playtest them. Thanks!

@rudra-nil-basu Thanks a lot I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Simple addition to the genre but I thought the game was engaging enough to finish. I actually really enjoyed the final level because it had a decent difficulty to it in terms of timing. I agree w some of the sentiment above, I think the game really shined when you were presented w a choice of confidence in getting through traps vs taking guaranteed gate damage, and also the choice of when to grab a potion or not. The game overall has a decent amount of breadth to it given that it was a solo project so well done on the jam!
