Ticker Clicker Defence

LD44-screen1.PNG LD44-screen2.PNG

How to play

The game is a mix between a tower defence and a clicker.

Place your defences on the grid and wait for the waves of enemies to arrive. All costs of units and the upgrades of those will cost health from your heart.

Every killed enemy drops health but be quick to pick it up as they disappears quickly.

Tools used:

  • Unity 2019.1
  • Aseprite
  • Ableton Live
  • Gimp

All graphics, music, audio and code was created during the Jam. No assets from Assets store was used. A few standard Unity provided packages was added and used.

Post-jam version 1.1

If you are going to rate this game DO NOT play the post-jam version!! Play the link further down instead.

After the release we was inspired to do a post-jam version with a few annoying bugs fixed (quicker restarts, better menus, flashing towers instead of the upgrade text) and some tweaking done to the enemy spawner.

Love the aesthetic and the music, wish the start screen would go more quicker though!

This game had great music and visuals. I love tower defense games and this one had me playing for a good minute before i accidentally killed myself. Very fun!

I had to pull myself away!! I would have spent the whole night playing this game, otherwise. The game, in my eyes, is perfect except for two minor issues: (1) as mentioned above, the intro text takes too long to scroll away and (2) the background music never changes.

Wow, great game! Absolutely love the aesthetic and sound. Worked together really well to create a wonderful atmosphere. I did eventually die to a bug. Opening two upgrade dialogues, buying one upgrade, not having enough health for the second one but still being able to buy it and then dying. No big deal as I mainly did it to see what would happen :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:.
Very well done.

Really cool.
Is it ok or a bug that laser hits first target and then hits another one? I had it multiple times.

I'm such a sucker for bloom and neon lights so you get bonus points for graphics from me, the music and sound effects are also quite good as they aren't as tiring no matter how long it loops.

I will say though that the game is awfully repetitive, and since there is nothing that could potentially damage your weapons, and no variety in the kinds of enemies you are up against, all you end up doing is upgrading and collecting hearts ad-nausium.

The game could also really benefit from being able to skip scrolling text or speeding up the actual waves at any point in time.

The splash screen is painfully slow, and clicking on the green hearts is a little tedious.

Otherwise nice, good graphics and fun!

It's a nice entry but I think the theme is a bit forced.
I lost at crazy wave 19, maybe I could have made it if I didn't loose so many green hearts at wave 18 ! In general, clicking on stuff was a challenge.

Hot dang! This is definitely my favourite game from the jam yet :-D Such a good idea (at least I haven't seen a TD game as this before with life a currency), and the music and aesthetics are on point. 5 stars! Made it to level 20, when it seemed like the game cranked up the difficulty to 11 :-P

A great take on the classic tower defense with a hint of clicker. Bright, colourful, lovely. I got to level 20 by just stocking up hearts from the previous levels.

**Pros:** Nice, clean professional graphics. Awesome soundtrack and sfx. Felt great watching the lasers go pew-pew and enemies' blood spatter.

**Room for improvement:** (ignoring that it's a limited-time Game Jam) Game started out slow for a long time, then really picked up the pace by level 12, and I mean *really*. So that experience could be balanced better. If I'm honest, the clicker mechanics felt a bit forced. I'd rather be upgrading my turrets than clicking mindlessly at hearts. I think the thematic connection still works without it, and it's still very original.

For three days, it's a great attempt. Hope to see more from you!

Great! Nice graphics and audio, and overall pretty well polished. Genuinely had fun playing.
Also, the pun-based name, "Ticker Clicker", is appreciated.

A few little niggles, like the slow intro text, and overlapping text/UI stuff when there are lots of towers on-screen.

Made it to wave 20!

Cool game, but when I started, I didn't quite understand what all the UI meant. Once I played the round, I realised that was the path of enemies, but I'd misplaced my turrect. So I replayed, and had to sit through that painfully slow menu screen. Please speed that up.

Everything was nice and easy, that is until round 20, which I'm certain is impossible. Bloom was a bit on the crazy side, and although the changing ui colours was nice, the version of ui with the bright blue grid was very hard to look at. With more towers and enemies, this could become a very fleshed out, and most importantly fun game!

Great game. The theme is here, and the game is well done.
I'm a bit sad because it takes so much time to play. I would like to restart faster.
But congrats, it's nice

the game is strange.
You don't have a lot of money/life to spend in the start, you are kinda hopeles in this start.
Also the game takes a lot to start, it kinda makes you think that it isn't worth it to wait so long.
The graphics and the sound are nice but the game needs a lot of balance. And it isn't too innovative, and it takes the theme very basically, it could be more deep.

Best LD game I played so far!!!
Great visuals.
Great music score.
Great sound effects.
And a lot of fun to play!
One minor thing: The 'upgrade' text clutters the screen sometimes.
Then it's hard to see the underlying turrets/lazers.

@spooky @calzep @lot9s @gronther @gamepopper @ace17 @5you @soerenbachnielsen @gastricsparrow @jasond @justcamh @fleoh @kpedatte @craftlord Thanks for all your nice and kind comments! It did inspire me to continue to work on the game a bit more and I have fixed some of the annoying bugs including the slow start screen and yes it's now possible to get pass wave 20 ;) Links to the post-jam version is in the game description.

@smiley I forgot to mention, I'm not a fan of having to click on the hearts or else you lose them. I think this should be automated or atleast be able to build a unit that can suck in hearts near it
