Chesty the Treasure by Lord9000

[raw]
made by Lord9000 for LD 44 (JAM)

You've all played as the knight looking for treasure in a creepy dungeon. Some of you even played as the monsters guarding this great treasure.

Now, get ready to play AS the treasure!

In Chesty the Treasure, you play as a little chest with one goal - get the coins before the knights do! Watch out however, as the knights have a tendency to forget about their honour and steal your coins! Also, did I forget to mention that your life is meaningless without any treasure inside you, so you die when you run out of coins? Well, now you know!

Let's see if you can reach the secret level!!

The game is really fun. Feels almost like Pac Man. I like it how you race with those AI enemies as you all try to collect points.

Great work!

Good game, the music ant the pixel art are really nice.

i didn't manage to beat the 2nd level, a lot of knights were stuck in walls in this level.

Really cool and catchy game :D I also love your interpretation of the theme. However, there should be music in main menu, because when I played with music options and got to game, I got attacked by dramatically loud music :P

Great graphics and interesting gameplay as other have said similar to Pacman. I have only one problem with the game: the movement is clunky, it should be possible to just hold down key to move instead of clicking. Other than that pretty good game.

This is my favorit theme use so far! The art style is amazing! It's like a modern and better version of pac-man. Unfortunetly I found some bugs but overall is great!

I really liked the music :)
The controls really need an adjustment, having to press each time the arrow is a bit tiring, and I felt like the AI were random, which made any strategic choice to avoid them useless, which was a bit frustrating. (and also the last level with white tiles was... surprising ^^ )
Other than that the game is nice, with cool music and cute graphics :)

I like this game and the pacman idea where enemies move only when you move.
It gives a lot of fun, tho I would really like to see more levels and play longer :D

This is great! Intersting twist, love the overall ambience, chesty is cute and the music fits pefectly.

I'm not sure the turn based nature of it fits that well, especially with having to re-press the key each time and the time limit, and there seemed to be a few bugs with the knights, but overall I really enjoyed this one!

Nice game! The idea is quite unique, the graphics and audio are awesome! The only thing I would change is to lower the volume of the goddamn coins sound after beating each level (my ears are literally bleeding after finishing this game , when all other sound effects are in normal volume, this sound is way more loud). Also I think I found a bug (I know, I know, that's not a bug that's a feature ), while playing in level 3. After I died, game said to press any key to restart the game, so I pressed up arrow key and player moved instead of level restart. Out of curiosity I started moving, while I was dead and I even could collect coins, so I collected enough of them to beat the level. To my suprise I went straight ahead to next level.

This game is great!, very polished. The graphics and audio are a Plus!

For me, the controls were a bit difficult, because I kept pressing movement keys (WASD) and it wasn't moving since the animation of the chest didn't ended or the tile wasn't reached. I would suggest to move the player holding a key not pressing it, but keeping the rouge like style; for instance:

if key is been pressed and is_movement_allowed then move to next tile, is_movement_allowed = false... and when the next tile is reached allow the player movement again. It shouldn't be to difficult, and it will be more easier and comfortable to move the player. Overall, very well done guys

Great graphics, weird AI  The game has some roguelike vibes which is cool.

Catchy tunes, good art, and a decent maze chase idea. Movement was a bit sluggish though; I do wish that I could just hold the direction button to continue moving, or at least buffer the next movement input. I like the idea of playing as the chest though — that's funny.

Nice work!

The highlight of this game is graphics and sound for sure. Having to tap the movement keys endlessly gets old very quickly and the AI acts way too random to be considered interesting. Still, the presentation really sells it!

I liked the general presentation and style of gameplay. I dind't really get the actual gameplay challenge though. The knights were just running around randomly and I could just run through them, because they would swing their weapong with a tile of delay, never hitting me. Other than that, the only thing that was a little annoying was, that you had to repeatedly press the directions buttons to move. That felt kinda sluggish because some inputs were ignored, until the chest was completely still after walking one tile.

The art was superb and the audio very fitting. Helped a lot to increase the fun factor. But I have to admit that the gameplay loop got old after a few levels. Especially regarding the movement speed, it started to feel like my time was wasted a little.

Very good entry nontheless! I enjoyed myself
