Don't Fry Michel ! by Vladadamm

[raw]
made by Vladadamm for LD 41 (JAM)

Michel Poisson was a regular, happy fish. A hake, to be more precise. He lived in the buck just like the other hakes. Until, one day, Chong the cook, owner of the buck, decided to replace breathable, fresh water with boiling oil. The horror… Michel has seen... The last hake must escape…

How To Play :

2 Players versus game.

Michel has to survive by jumping on platforms which can be destroyed by Chong by shooting at them. If Chong hits a platform, he loses.

Chong can also pick-up power-ups : Red Power-up gives a temporary buff to Chong's reload speed. Black Power-up allows Chong to launch a massive charged shot.

Michel's Controls : - A / D to Move - W to Jump

Chong's Controls : - Left Arrow / Right Arrow to move - Up Arrow to Fire - Right Shift to use Black Power-up

Thanks to Leonard Bertos for the written lore.

Known Issues :

WebGL Version : You will have to go full screen else part of the menus will be cut.

I've now decided that I hate deep-fried food. Apart from donuts. And Chips. And those delicious things I can't remember the name of. And shrimps. And... A really interesting idea. Pity I don't have any friends to play with... *sob

Haha funny concept and name. I disliked that I had to go in fullscreen mode in order to play the game though. Solid entry if you could fix that

Haha loved the concept, controls also helped suit the urgency and the thematic of a fish! Great work :)

Hilarious, we had fun! Sometimes the Game Over screen would appear randomly, and some levels would start with a nearly impossible layout for Michel. Overall very solid!

@jelch There should be two ways you can have a game over :
- Michel loses if he falls in the oil
- Chong loses if he hit a platform

Either the second one wasn't explained well enough or there's a bug we didn't see.

Else, thanks for the feedback

you can work more on the animations and the graphics, but overall it's a good game and a good theme, I like it.

This was a pretty fun platformer/shooter. I felt like the controls for the fish were a bit slippery feeling which may have been intentional since it is a fish so that definitely biased the play toward the shooter. Fun game though!

two player games are always hard to rate (rating alone) - enjoyed the art and humor!

Tried playing it on my own, which made it more of a 2 player survival game. But it was interesting and worked well, so good job :)

Since I was alone, it is really difficult to reach goals.

Nevertheless, the idea is interesting and well developped - congrats !!

Regarding the WebGL version, not all the screen was visible, so that I need to play the Windows version.

Regarding the UI, you should give more feedback when a game is started and when it's ended to better know that the game is (already) launched and where to click to combe back to the main menu.

Good job! I love the graphics, and the gameplay is quite fun! I do think that you need to make it a LOT easier for the chef, or a LOT harder for the fish. We played like 10 times, and the fish only lost once because he gave up.

Good job, and good luck!

That's a pretty good game! I feel it's risky to go for PvP only because less people will test youg game, I'd advise for you to consider taking the time to automatize one of the 2 players so you can play PvE in the future. Beyond that, the graphics are cute, the music is very well-done, and you even added the option to change the controls! Very good all-around game, nice one :-D
