Memory Warfare by dirtymoonz

[raw]
made by dirtymoonz for LD 41 (COMPO)

SS3.png SS2.png My first Ludum Dare completed, and here is my game!

With the theme, I took two genres and made them play side-by-side where actions in one game influence the other.

Completing pairs in the memory game gives you score or power-ups that help you with the bunny-defense game to the right. Shooting the bunnies might also drop red power-up that reveals a memory-pair for you.

When a bunny reaches the carrots one life is lost. The goal of the game is to get as high of a score as possible.

Enjoy!

Haha this game is great.

I'm a sucker for "doing multiple things at once" games.

Good challenging game very hard game to master, great for improving mouse and keyboard skills. Love your graphics, the bunny squeaks are cute as well.

Nice low poly art style and simple yet addictive gameplay ! I did feel sometimes as if the tiles didn't respond to my clics. Adding a little, satisfying clic sound would of helped there ! So yeah, all in all a sold, nice LD entry :) !

It's not even combination of two genres!!! It's just playing 2 game in the same time!!! But I like it, graphic is really good.

Really fun, difficult, but fun.

I think I would have found it easier if what I was doing with the mouse was on the right, like my mouse; but that only applies because I'm right-handed.

Funny concept, enjoyed the multitasking while trying to look right and left at the same time haha.

Barely enough time to click a single pair before being overwhelmed by rabbits. Really needs some difficulty tweaking.

Nice first LD game. Quite challenging, a difficulty choice that changes the rabbits speed could help with the multitasking.

I cleared one memory board and got 1010 points before dying on my last run. Doing multiple things games are difficult to do in a Ludum Dare, what with feature creep and building what amounts to several games in the span of one short jam. But you've done good work here.

I do have a complaint about the sluggishness of the game, though. It's not enough to break the experience, but it does get in the way. The memory matching has a very long animation and often -due to the delays- the game would turn off a different pair than I was trying to select. I eventually got used to and compensated for the delays, but I would've preferred if when I clicked a tile it immediately turned over (or had an animation <0.2s).
The shooting bit also suffers from slight sluggishness and a general floaty feeling. Again, it's not as bad as it could be; for your first LD this isn't bad. But because of the camera angle and slow bullets and not-entirely-clear hitboxes, it was difficult for me at first to aim properly at the rabbits. I would have liked to either have clear-set columns that the rabbits would travel along, and I could jump between, or a wider projectile (like with the spread power-up, but all the time), or faster projectiles.

These are all relatively minor complaints though, and pretty subjective at the end of the day. I would have liked a snappier game, but this isn't bad. The game's pretty well-balanced, the music and visuals are very pleasant; I enjoyed myself. Thanks.

Very nice! It really reminds me of those 5 second frenzy games, where you have to juggle your attention. If you were to put another minigame in there it'd probably be infernal... And I couldn't wait to try it, haha!

@amras0000 whoa, thank you for the feedback! I agree with your points and I will try to think about those things for my next Ludum Dare. I'm glad you liked it anyways!

That was excellent. The game gets really tense near the end, and the graphics are fantastic. It's impressive you got so much done in 48 hours.

Great job! It feels like a complete browser game, very nice for 48 hours. I agree with some of the points that have already been made: swapping the left and right halves of the game and the length of the memory card flip animation. Also, it would be cool if you got a bonus for completing a memory board, since it feels like quite the accomplishment. Also, do the rabbits start coming faster than the player's rate of fire? It seemed like it, at the end. Their spawn rate should probably asymptotically approach the base fire rate.

I got 1450 points!

Game is very tough to keep track of aiming and memory. I think this would make a great memory game as it kind of forces you to keep up. I managed to clear the board once but quickly lost as things sped up.
