Daunting Dungeon by Jiri_One

[raw]
made by Jiri_One for LD 41 (COMPO)

I made this game in 48 hours for Ludum Dare 41, it tries to combine a shooter with a dungeon crawler/ turnbased game and is randomly generated. there is a bug that text so score doesn't show in html version...

use the mouse to move the player and right click the player to shoot bullets.

try to get the highest score, mine was 2250.

I like it! The turn-based mechanic is pretty well implemented, and all the tricks you can do shooting before enemy approaches are fun.
A pretty solid entry, great!

I like the game quite a lot. Took me a while to figure out what to do until i saw the controls further down the page haah! But very cool, I like it :)

Neat idea! I included it in my Ludum Dare 41 compilation video series, if you’d like to take a look. :) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_9PaAd0SRA

A neat concept, and a proper mashup of incompatible genres too! The clean visual style is perfect for a strategy game and the music is really nice :) I think with a little bit more variety the game could become really replayable.

Pretty cool. The shooting mechanic is fun and interesting and its very rewarding to try and line up enemies to get more kills with one bullet

Simple and small game. Good mashup of genres, very nice!

Fun to play! The music was also perfect for the mood. If you were to add some variety of levels or themes I think it could have some legs as a longer game!

Great job!

Nice atmosphere, very clean art style, good music. Very fun to line up the enemies and shoot them all down.
Had some issues with resolution scaling - I couldn't see the ammo counter when it wasn't in full screen.
Occasionally enemies would spawn on a tile I was moving onto.
Really nice clean design though - could've had more variation - its really cool to have the trade off between moving around and being backed into corners and using your ammo as efficiently as possible.
Overall really fun well polished game! Good job!

I'm not sure "dungeon crawler/turn-based" quite qualifies as "incompatible" but that being said it was a nice little game. I enjoyed audio too!

Interesting little game. The only thing is that having to click the player every time gets annoying really quickly. It's not like you could move anything else, so obviously you want to control the player.

Nice mood and visual here ! but few bugs are boring like this one : sometimes, when you pick up a red ball, a monster spawn next to you and instant kill you.
Some Level design could have been nice too !
But it's pretty nice ! I really like animations

Really liked the concept, i think the enemy spawn needs a bit more tweaking, sometimes they either spawn on top of me, or right next to me and I die instantly , but overall nice game :smile_cat:

I like the idea, I can see it being a pretty good game! There are however many problems in current version.

The controls don't make any sense at all. The fact that I have to select something, although I can select just one thing, is not good. Help menu option not working didn't make a good impression either.

Arrow keys (or wasd) to move the player is the industry standard, and you should have a very good excuse to not follow standards like these.

To shoot, you could perhaps press a hotkey, which would also be displayed and clickable next to your ammo, then select a direction.

Having to read the game description before even being able to play the game is a major flaw in my eyes.

Enemies killing me instantly after spawn was super annoying, I would almost say game breaking.

I liked the music and atmosphere. The kill sound effect was a bit annoying. Graphics are very basic, but kinda worked.

Highscore not showing in a highscore-based game is very awkward mistake and a hard one to oversee.

Theme interpretation and the idea is quite nice, but the execution is lacking.

Also, usually when you say something is randomly generated, you don't mean just that the enemy spawn points are randomly selected. Usually, that term is understood as the game having some sort of procedural generation, like generated levels or something like that.

Sorry for being a bit harsh and direct with my feedback, but that is what LD is all about - learning from your mistakes!

Game is cool, and feels very complete and polished, congratulations.

As the comment up in here says, the controls are more fit to a mobile game than this type of game. And maybe you can release a mobile version of this! Could work very well, is an iconic character and gameplay is clean and simple.

Nice entry :)

Congrats on your entry :) I agree with most of the comments above, the game is quite fun and keeps you playing, but I would have loved to see my current score, having enemies spawned in a more "controlled" way, and be able to move with arrow keys. Still a fun little game!

Interesting game. A bit tedious with all the clicking, but fun anyway.

Maybe some power-ups would spice gameplay a bit, but hey - it's compo after all

Nice idea i really appreciated it, but maybe you can upgrade the random start and it will be very addictive.
Sometimes it's impossible to win, for exemple i won 2 levels then i immediately lost because the spawn was just on me. Very good job man

I was instakilled a few times from the enemy spawning right next to me, but those times aside, I had a fantastic experience. Super cool and simple aesthetic, great interpretation of the theme, nicely done!

It's pretty good but the controls are really annoying, you should have made it WASD for movement and arrow keys for shooting.

really nice short game ^^ I really like the simple graphics and the controls. But I died only because the enemies were spawn on my position. That was a bit frustrating but still the game is really great and could be the beginning of a great turn based dungeon crawler ;)

It's a nice simple little game. It would be a better experience to not have to continuously click on the player before doing a move and would also allow the player to play at a faster speed if desired. I like the idea and enjoyed it.

really cool concept here. I've played the web version so I don't know what score I get, but I got to a point where I had no bullets and the enemies cornered me :P

Wish the movement arrows would appear automatically instead of having to click the character, but other than that is a really fun game!

Congrats on the entry :D

Fun game, but as mentioned by others you can die due to a random enemy spawn. It would be nice if there was a slight no spawn zone around the player.

Really solid entry, the gameplay is really original and we have to play smart in order to trick the enemy with our bullets.

Pretty neat game which some nice presentation. I really liked the graphics and sound effects. Extra props for animations which made this game feel polished.

The bit nitpick I have are the controls. It is really a struggle for the player to move the character. Basically everything in this game takes a one click too much effort and the controls are not intuitive at all.

With some proper controls this could be a very charming little game!

Interesting but there's a few wierds thing preventing me from enjoying it.

- Switch to keys rather than mouse for fast gameplay.
- The right click to shoot (it's actually right then left to shoot) felt odd
- The randomness causes a monster to spawn on the same square as me and I died.

Game looked great and the background music it's cool. Nonetheless two things that annoyed me:
- The beeping sound felt too loud
- The controls seemed a bit weird and slow, plying with keyboards would have been way better imo.

Wow, SO FUN. I played this for a while! Great progression of difficulty as you play, quick to pick up, and the mechanics are great. Really cool idea, and I love the overall feel between the art and sound effects too. Well done!!

The idea of the game is pretty good, just needs some polishing. Like bullets going off the screen and a couple times the bullets didn't move at all between turns. It was also pretty slow, once I killed the enemy I had to move all the way to the portal which felt tedious

Nice concept, I really like visual simplicity of the game. Adding actual dungeon or some random obstacles at least could add more strategic possibilities.

This is a fun game. I especially liked being able to plan out missile attacks. This reminded me of an old game called DeltaVee, you can see a play-through here if you're interested:

Very fun game! The graphics and the music create a cool unique atmosphere. I would recommend you would allow the player to move with the arrow keys too as that is what most people are used to. Nevertheless, this one of the games I enjoyed the most while playtesting ludum dare entries. Keep it up!

Interesting puzzle, although success is mostly random based on where the guys show up, and how far your red goal is from you when it shows up. Music track is nice. I agree with others that the controls are a little cumbersome. Nice work, though!

Only problem I had was sometimes when I was picking up a red dot I would just die right away. Other than that this was a really solid entry, and a good take on the theme. Great Job!
