True Love Adventure by neowhoru

made by neowhoru for LD 41 (COMPO)

True Love Adventures is a Dating Sim Action RPG.

So what you need to do ? Like in a JRPG Style you are dating a women. But if the women should fall in love with you, you need to bring her some things.

Oh and if you bring her the wrong things - she doesn't forget this :)

Afer i published a Fallback i know have updated it with some little action: "one eye enemies".

If you hit them, you are Game Over ...especially when...;)

If i add action i update this here.

How to Play: Space/Fire = Talking WSAD/Arrow = Walking

Fire2/LeftCtrl = Dancing ;)

Some Notes and hints: - To Complete the game you need to take the right item. The Coffee is a coffee with a green logo (with green logo in front of the shop) I forgot to give a hint in this quest. - Candy is easy (but there are other candy shops which hold a wrong item) Should be chocolate - Ring : there is a hint what kind of ring she wants :)

Hey. I think the city is to big. It took me a while to find a coffee shop, then I lost my way trying to go back where the character is, and eventually something ran over me aha.

I like the drawing of the women character. The lines are shaky, but still very cute!

The graphics are nice, it lacks a map or indications not to get lost!

I can only agree to everything that's said above and the controls are messed up for me :/ I can't queue different directions after one another which makes it alot more difficult to successfully walk around an enemy

I like your drawings and the writing is pretty fun! But MAAAAN those hitboxes on the monsters are frustratingly big! It was too much to try and dodge them so I basically had to find a safe route and then repeat it 6 times, which I assume wasn't the aim.

The art on the building is great. They felt authentic to me. I'd almost have focused on the buildings and the graphics and don't a simpler mechanic.

Thanks :)

@CiaranW yeah i did implemented them in the "last minutes" of compo. BUT - if you hold "leftCtrl" if you on the same "line" where the monster moving, you dance and can defeat them by dancing :joy:

Nice game but I'm having some trouble with the controls; just because I do not have a QWERTY configuration but... It's still ok!

Nice job dude!

Nice looking buildings and pixel art overall! Really ruthless hitbox though! ;)

I think you got a bit of "dev knows syndrome" going on here as far as the map layout goes. Unless you properly explore it's really hard to figure out where you are meant to go but as the dev it might seem obvious to you because you made it. General concusses of "the map is too big" I have to agree with too. A neat little game though if it took less time to get to and from the places you need to go

What needs some polish:
- "press fire" isn't a good way to let the player know what button to use :(
- I get that you get one shot, but giving the player 20/100 hp doesn't make sense..?
- Wasn't sure where to go. Maybe mini map or some way to guide the player
- Hitboxes are weird cause you could get hit standing in the sidewalk to beneath the red things.
- Not sure how it tied into the theme..?

Good job finishing and posting a game tho!

I really like the background art and theme, but I had a really difficult time! I wandered for several minutes and couldn't find any distinct buildings ... and I died often. Would have liked to have seen where the story went!

I’m not sure if you were able to see it, but I played your game on my stream at https://www.twitch.tv/saoigames tonight.

I found the game a little two challenging and wished that there was a map I could have used to show me where the coffee shop was located. I struggled to pass the enemies, which I think was the point, but as I explored the map looking for coffee I found large parts that were free of enemies. This made me think that I should move toward the enemies to find what I was looking for, and in general this was a good strategy.

I'm not sure how deep the story is, but after much failed attempts I finally brought coffee only to be told that is not what she wanted. I'm not sure if I grabbed the wrong coffee or what since it wasn't labeled, but some indication on why she didn't want it would have helped. Wrong Brand vs didn't really want coffee anymore.

I hope you enjoy watching me play the game, and I look forward to seeing what you make next ludum dare.

Nice idea, and art. The gameplay needs some polishing for example I got stuck countless of times on corner of building and subsequently killed, also I have impression that the colliders of the flying thingy are a bit too big. Solid effort and coherent style.

nice idea, nice art, but the hit boxes seem too big and it really needs a map or something.

thanks @saoi-games - i just checkout the part a little bit where you playing the game - and hell yes i must improve a lot of stuff.

thanks too @TomekS and @Dark Roast Studios - yeah it haas nice graphics but the gameplay is really not good at all.
I started to make a Post JAM Version of the game (with a minimap, better hitboxes and place the girl and player near some of the locations).

Nice idea, I liked the fact you cant fight back, you art is fantastic and man, the game over text is too real, he..he.. :-( ... But the world is too big and empty, sometimes I felt i was running in circles and could not find a candy store or something until i died for the large enemies hitbox, I found that there is not much point in trying to dodge the enemies, because you could just go around the empty spaces. Good entry nevertheless.
