A turn-based platformer? Five seconds for you, three seconds for the enemies! Screen Shot 2018-04-22 at 21.57.32.png

Spent around 12 hours in total making this, was really good fun and learned some things along the way. Made it using the Godot engine. Here's some more screenshots.

Using x to move made it weirdly tricky. Nice game for a 12 hour jam!

This is pretty cool! didn't expect it to be a puzzle game as well. The controls were a bit weird, but still great job for 12 hours

The main mechanic works well and is fun, turning your platformer into something more akin to a puzzle-game. Seeing a first seemingly unbeatable enemy being tricked by the time step sure is funny ! The graphics as well as the audio do their job, but I would recommend shorter levels (more like a succession of one-screen puzzles), as the turn based system makes it frustrating to have to start over. Overall, great job !

Cool concept! It sort of turns that style of game into a more strategic version.

First thing that immediately stood out to me was the abrupt stopping/starting of the music when you died. It got very annoying (and on top of me dying a lot, it didn't help ).

It controls very well, and plays smoothly. For future reference, just use the a and d keys for moving, but I think lots of people will have that some complaint.

Nice work!

I really like how the rotating turn structure turns an action game into a puzzle game! Really cool. I agree with @JLV that shorter levels (or checkpoints) would be a little nicer, especially since there are some trial-and-error parts where you won't get information on a current turn until it's too late.

Graphics were nice and clear and readable, controls and gameplay easy to pick up. Well done!

Good idea and nice execution. Debatable control-scheme though. :p

Safe for the very awkward controls, this is a solid game with a good concept.

The game itself is fun, the mechanics work very well and the game has some good flow to it. The graphics, despite consisting of a "Simon Says" main character and only plain colors, are very clear and make it easy to sight-read *what* is going to move and hurt.

My main problem with the game is the audio, or rather the fact it repeats from the start on death. A game like this, where you can't always sight-read *how* something is going to move, has you falling prey to an unexpected death pretty often (or I'm just bad). It gets samey hearing the same starting tune starting over from the start each time again.

It's a solid game though, and a really enjoyable one, to say the least.

Controls are arguable, because on a German keyboard Z and Y are reversed  Still had fun playing it

Thanks for the feedback on controls @Silvae @Thy Duck @Colin Misbach @Vinterskog @Snowy @xoidberg I originally had used the arrow keys but when publishing on itch there seems to be a godot engine bug with the up key (ghost inputs on start) so I panicked and went with Z and X at the last minute >_> Will leave as-is in the spirit of the compo :)

Fun little game!

I wish I had a little more time to process how and why I died. A small pause, maybe a little death noise, just a second or two before I'm back at the beginning and have to get reoriented. You don't want this to be too long - you want a fast turnaround - but no time at all leaves me wondering what I missed and gives me no chance to think about what to do next time to fix it.

Mistakes also felt a little too expensive, but that might have been fixed by adding that pause on death. Another option might be a small sub-life system (like big / small Mario) so only a second or third mistake completely resets the level.

The game flowed well and I liked that I could easily switch between levels when I couldn't figure one out. ::thumbs up::

I had a lot of fun playing through ALL the levels! I am awesome! :)
This game is a great mix of a platformer and a turn-based game. This mash-up makes it not only a game about dexterity, but also a bit of a puzzle game, where I have to figure out where to move and when! It was so much fun!
The music was nice and underlined the concept really well, changing whenever it's the enemies turn. :)
Graphics-wise, the game is simple and easy to understand. :D

Well done, good job, great game, nice submission! Super fun!

The game is really fun but the controls are strange for people with a different keyboard ^^' I know that on english keyboards the Z ist next to X but on german keyboards (whyever) it is swapped with Y and that made it kinda confusing to play. Anyway, your concept is really fun and challenging :3

This was really cool. I wasn't sure initially, but once I started playing it I really got into the challenging aspect of having to not just make the jumps, but also take careful consideration of how much time I had left to make a move. Great work!

Never encountered a HTML5 game I can't play in Firefox before. Turns out the latest ESR (52, there's some XUL extensions I haven't figured out how to live without yet) doesn't support WebAssembly. Worked fine in Chrome though, fun game, well designed levels, I just wish the player was a bit more... square, so it'd be easier to figure out exactly where you'll go off an edge, since I find some of the bits required to move every pixel I could manage to set me up for the next turn.

Level 2 is pure evil, I can't imagine why you'd build it with the controls you had in mind. Finished it the last one. I definitely enjoyed the game, and I really love your audio solution. I think it would be better if you had a depleting timeline instead of three or five segments, maybe with additional white marks to separate the individual seconds. Anyway, great work, a lot of gameplay implemented in a simple, enjoyable game. And I absolutely love the title!
