More Sacrifices! by Alex Davies

[raw]
made by Alex Davies for LD 43 (COMPO)

You've angered Cthulhu! You must sacrifice yourself on the altar to appease him, as you dodge poison darts, and leap over pits of spikes.

(Spoiler: The final level is a fight with Cthulu - well, kinda)

Gameplay.PNG

What I used: - Unity - Pyxel Edit - Audacity - Bosca Ceiol - Visual Studio

This time around, I actually got a fully working game! (Yay!). I'm a lot happier with the overall quality of this one!as well - it's got nicer quality pixel art, cleaner code, and less bugs, as well as actually having audio. Also, I'm surprised the music sounds as good as it does, with it being my first time using Bosca Ceiol for an actual project.

Also, tried to get it running on WebGL, but Unity didn't like it. Oh well, maybe next time.

Anyway, hope you enjoy it.

WARNING: This project may have problems with slow motion on Mac (hopefully it's fixed).

One of the nicest pixel art games i've played in this LD so far. Level 1 was really nice. Starting Level two things got REALLY slow and it felt somehow not right. Otherwise a really good game.

Really cool. In the second part and after that the speed slows down drastically.
Fun game. I agree with above comment, art was great.

Very polished entry! Really like the transition effects and the pixel art. The music also is really nice! The slo-mo part was a bit too slow for my taste, it took forever to traverse the level. I also didn't know what my goal was. Overall very nice entry!

Sorry to hear about the slow motion. I think it's a bug. If you're playing on mac then that might be it, but I tested it quite a lot on windows and it didn't do that with me. :( I'll look into a fix now.

Art was awesome, pretty good and polished. Plenty of levels. Overall pretty good, except I ran into a bug originally where the whole game after the first level was extremely slow. Not super fun, a bit hard and the controls were very fast — even for me. Playing on windows.

Huh, well I guess I'll just scrap the slow motion. Honestly got no clue why it's happening. Oh well, it's not a big deal.

Overall very nice game, but I also got bug with slow motion. I think it happened when I got killed during sacrifice animation but it still went to next level and then everything was in slow motion.

Weird. I've tried to fix again. If it happens again then I'm pretty sure it's a bug with Unity, because I've no longer got any code changing the speed.

I think it's fixed. Just had a friend who was having problems with it before play it and it worked, so it should now be fixed.

The game instantly closes for me after launching, on Windows :(

Great little game! Love the minimalist art. It's annoying that when you die the level doesn't restart automatically.

well done, graphics, music, and gameplay are all nice. Doesn't make much sense to avoid hazards just to die at the end of the level, but still a good game!

Great fun! Crazy hilarious deaths.... I totally think if I die and make it to the alter, it should totally count!! :) ![Untitled.png](///raw/296/f1/z/1edac.png)

Most of the comments have covered most of what I would have said already. The game has some great effects and I really liked it on the whole.

The one quirk that I didn't like as much was the camera movement. When I stopped moving the camera seemed to overshoot my character's position and then bounce back. After a while, it made me feel a bit motion sick.

This is a pretty good platformer, and there are plenty of levels, but I would have liked to see a game that incorporates the theme as a gameplay mechanic, rather than a unique end level animation.

A really cool game! I particularly liked the music. I also found that the design of the levels was well done. But the last Chtulu level is too difficult in my opinion.

Gameplay is very basic for platformer but, at least the theme is in the plot. One of not many games I actually finished. I like details like transitions between levels , some sinus animations and sound effects. This game just feels very polished. PS jump sounds like I have tic-tac box in my pocket, or trying to walk in some swamp I don't know :P

For the record: I beat the game.

The game was a functional and nice looking platformer. I was having fun up until the last two levels. The jumping feels a little unresponsive, and that really made the penultimate level hard and in a frustrating way, because of the twitch movements and sudden jumps you need to make.
The final level was too RNG. A boss fight in a platformer is cool, but the tentacles were too random. The level is tricky enough with the pre-placed obstacles. Throwing in RNG obstacles literally means you can't be sure if a level can be won without a good seed.
But goddamn, is it pretty!

I'm also not rating audio as highly as I would like because I know the knife sound effect is from somewhere else. I've heard it in Poacher.

No, i recorded it by scraping two knives together then heavily editing it to boost the treble. Thanks for the advice though. I guess I got quite good at the game from testing it so much, so I made it a bit too hard :P

Really nice game! A bit hard but challenging (the boss level was too hard for me however). Amazing artstyle and audio. Congrats! :D
