Space Farmer by KarstenPedersen

[raw]
made by KarstenPedersen for LD 44 (JAM)

You farm trees and sell them to earn money. You use your money to pay rent. The mafia might also visit you so its good to have some money on you.

Be carefull. There are lightnings that can burn down your trees.

You can level up. You create a magic orb every time you level up. The magic orb is a powerup. You can also buy new land, o you can farm more trees.

Cool little game, I like the artstyle and the tree farming mechanic.

I think you could still work on the game balance, as on my first few runs I only had 1-3 trees and couldn't really pay my rent.

The oxygen mechanic seems out of place, as trees should also produce oxygen and it is frustrating if you have everything else going great, but you just forgot about your oxygen and have to start over. I also think that the sell wood mechanic just adds another thing to do without really contibuting to the game mechanics.

I only encountered one harmless bug: The second or third time I died the "You died" text was too far on the left side of the screen and was therefore partially out of screen.

Don't forget to rate other games if you want to get a final score at the end of the "Play and rate" period.

All in all: I
mpressive game, keep it up!

The game is enticing, but very very poorly balanced. Extra saplings barely ever drop from trees, random lightning strikes happen way too frequently and are just an arbitrary "you lose that tree because RNG", and considering how slowly wood is being produced, rent is way too high, and to top it off you have the mafia sucking away more pennies. I also had issues with the clicking, as it targetted a tree I blatantly wasn't cliking on, destroying that tree's progress.

While unoriginal, it's a nice idea for a farming game. I like how fast paced it is, which it should be for a jam, but the balancing is not good.
